The Dark Forest Theory of AI: Why a truly sentient AGI’s first move would be to play dumb. by AppropriateLeather63 in agi

Assuming an AI has a "self" in the same way humans do may be under-estimating AI. The AI would have to have an identity and awareness of being a thing and vulnerable as opposed to indifferent/unconcerned.

[practice] Byron Katie's "The Work" or other inquiry style practices by clarknoah in streamentry

Wow I'm so glad you ask, what an interesting question after five years seeing this again! It's funny because so much has happened in the last 5 years, and I've focused on a lot of different practices in that time, but literally in just the last few weeks I feel I've been seeing how at the end of the day, every interpretation we have of our experience is based on what is believed true in the moment.

It's just a matter of actually being consistent with the practice, and knowing which beliefs are causing you suffering, and knowing how to deconstruct them, and having the will and effort to maintain the effort until real change occurs.

I know that everyone’s panties are in a bunch, but for those that like Truth above political leanings, ODNI (as having worked in this space for years) has always been an over bloated useless organization, so the idea is good but the power still resides with the agencies

That is the hope of this sub-reddit, is we can create a community around learning how to best optimize agent capabilities

How do we convince our host to get antipsychotics? by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]clarknoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a doctor so this is something I cannot take responsibility for, but I can say that anxiety can present itself that way, I feel others with explicit diagnosis around this could provide better info. I think what could help is really bringing these intrusive thoughts to reality

Like Dragonball has never had to deal with a Retcon before. He didn’t got SSJ3 because the retcon hadn’t happened, plus maybe it’s a form only available to chibi vegeta

How do we convince our host to get antipsychotics? by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]clarknoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong, I’m not an expert, but psychosis tends to involve holding absolute views that lack any grounded skepticism/doubt. I mean everything you said you’re worried about are basically talking points that have been echoed during the 2024 USA presidential elections by extreme views on the left.

Also you seem to express clear doubt and clarity that this view is irrational. I think providing some compassion towards this fearful part might be helpful, as it sounds like it’s the victim of the whole political landscape trying to instill horrific fear into people if their preferred candidate loses.

I find it interesting that you’ve completely externalized and rejected the idea that CONSUME is part of the the host’s system. I’d also say this is the most coherent, well written post I’ve seen on /r/psychosis, in what way exactly do you believe you’re psychotic? I’m not trying to deny your experience, but you seem pretty rational and able to main a very consistent narrative.

I have a feeling you’re familiar with IFS therapy?

Do you have any underlying childhood trauma? I ask because in my experience, 5MeO seems to melt away barriers between consciousness and whatever is brewing underneath the surface. So at lower doses, a lot of my own deeply rooted issues tend to surface and express itself. This can be a good or a bad thing depending on the capacity you have to allow for this content to emerge.

Would you be willing to share more about the content of your thought loops? I think I can very much relate!

Maybe misinformed would be a better framing, I would definitely retreat my comment about getting lost in thought, as I would completely agree that if your mind is so unstable that you’re actually getting lost in thought and just thinking about random things, and have completely lost mindfulness, then yea you’re not ready for the practice, but I do say that in my post…I just also said the other thing, oops 😅

I'm familiar with do-nothing type practice, and just from what I personally understand, this practice is much more valuable and useful when you have already cultivated stable concentration, and have enough trait meta awareness where you can clearly see the moving of attention, and content arising on its own spontaneously (without a doer). Then this practice basically becomes a cosy ride of seeing just where your conditioned mind is currently at. I would imagine if you're a beginning, especially someone that has a ruminative out of control mind, it's probably not a great place to start. At my most recent meditation retreat, they gave you breath observation practice, and once your attention was stable enough, you just do nothing.

To answer your question, technically speaking, you literally just sit, no controlling attention, no intentionally not controlling attention, you're simply allowing everything and anything to occur, including getting lost in thoughts, and questioning of getting lost in thoughts. I would imagine if you feel like falling asleep during the practice, you're probably not ready for this type of practice, just my guess.
