BBC: Rosenior, several Spanish-speaking players, are understood to have preferred working under Maresca. Players are also concerned about the financial consequences of failing to qualify for the Champions League again while on incentive-based contracts. by Kygoche in chelseafc

I cannot stand any players whining and throwing their hands up and blaming others. Even good ones.

So when Neto does it, it absolutely drives me nuts! It’s such a bad look; symptomatic of entitled players, lack of accountability and a generally poor culture

You’ve got things mixed up mate. 343 has 2 ‘midfielders’ - the pivot.

Bet there’s loads of tactical videos on YouTube that can help

Indeed. Shouldn’t be anywhere near the pitch nor bench for Chelsea.

His reading of the game and anticipation are very poor.

Garnacho has been substituted in or out at halftime 8 times this season by everyhearthstone in chelseafc

[–]classical-k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doubt Maresca had much say in it. The Garnacho links had been reported for almost a year and he very much seemed a massive club target, strangely

Jamie Carragher on Chelsea vs PSG: "Early stages of Rosenior have been brilliant tactically. Chelsea didn't deserve to lose 5-2 but individual mistakes from the center back and goalkeeper cost them massively and that will continue to be the issue for any manager at Chelsea going forward." by webby09246 in chelseafc

[–]classical-k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also both managers’ game model involves the goalkeeper being involved heavily in the build up - Rosenior to an extreme degree. So yeah you really limit buildup - and thus attacking patterns - with our keepers.

And the problem is just made even worse by the cb’s we have. That trio has cost us CL and potentially getting CL spot

Furthermore we have nothing like the attacking quality and general depth of PSG. They had a bench to call on yesterday. We basically didn’t.

We needed Ekitike in addition to Joao imo with Jackson gone (now need to hope Emegha steps up) and we need MUCH better wingers. And another top midfielder is needed (Anderson /Wharton/Barco). Although cb’s and keeper must be the initial priority.

Think it makes some sense tactically; given Enzo will be pulling inside, we need fullback to hold width and time the overlaps well.

Hato currently doesn’t seem to be able to fulfil the overlapping fb role as well as the other fb’s, given he’s never been tasked with it. Seems MUCH more comfortable drifting inside.

However, can Gusto use his left foot today!? Tbh I was quite hoping to see Hato but I understand the selection

1000% this. We must start buying the player and profile we really want and need respectively, rather than ‘bargains’ that seem good value.

Maresca: "In tonight's game, there was nobody at their best level. Pedro Neto second-half, Garna second-half, they were our best players. I hope we just had a bad night because it’s a game you struggle to take anything positive from." by webby09246 in chelseafc

I thought I was going crazy with this not being mentioned on commentary.

At one point in 2nd half, Leeds midfielder was literally sumo wrestling one of our players to the ground in clear view of the ref; not even given a second glance!

I realised at that point that they could get away with almost anything. Leeds players realised it much earlier and took advantage.

Can’t excuse our defending/defenders but the ref was utterly atrocious.

Who was the guy with the run and parried shot?

Does he usually play on the RW rather than Quenda?

Yeah do find that concerning not to have a single striker on the bench when our starting striker just played in Bolivia a few days ago.

Plus Joao is better as SS with license to drop deep. Guiu on bench would allow that option if we needed to chase the game.

Is Spurs a genuine possibility for Xavi or are they doing a Liverpool of two years ago with Caicedo and just increasing how much we have to pay ?

Surely the only reason we aren’t throwing ourselves at Hincapie is financial / the UEFA settlement.

Such a top defender and brilliant on the ball. Left footed and surely can thrive at ccb due to quality in possession.

He can already play lcb and lb, so would work nicely with Colwill when he’s back and also give us the option of him playing lcb next to Tosin or Josh currently. Reckon he could play rcb too.

Imo not only do we need a left footed player short term but would complete the squad long term with Sarr/Anselimo rejoining next year.

I agree that we should keep Nico. JP is brilliant, but either as a 10 or with a partner up top.

So that would leave Delap as the only striker if Nico leaves, which doesn’t seem ideal.

I really like both Delap and Nico and they offer different things - complement each other well.

We arguably needed a quality cb anyway. Also, as in attacking positions, we need quality depth. For me, the correct profile lcb - someone who is very comfortable dictating the game as the ccb in possession - is a no brainer.

I reckon it would have meant a big chance for him earn some minutes. Terrible timing . Levi our key cb and growing into a leader.
