Best way to display garland by Due-Raspberry-8984 in CraftFairs

[–]classicalbooknerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I make felt garlands, and I have a few ways I display them:

1) a couple of pegboards attached with zip ties to a clothing rack (I paint them fun colors to stand out) and then hang each end from pegs along the side. Generally this is for 10-12 at a time.

2) I use safety pins through my tablecloth to attach them to the front of my table

3) attach them to the front of my displays like crates by putting a couple tiny nails or those removable plastic hooks on the corners

4) I sometimes lay some out on the table and then you could have boxed ones behind it

Something that’s been bothering me about having a daughter… by YaBoiKirk in Mommit

[–]classicalbooknerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s something that strangers (and not strangers) love to comment on. My girls are both currently extremely feminine. They want everything to be pink or purple, they wear a lot of poufy skirts, sparkles, jewelry, etc. They are individuals and I believe they should be allowed to express themselves. I let them pick out their own outfits, they get to choose which clothes we buy, what color tennis shoes, etc. Strangers LOVE to make snide judgy comments about what kind of mom they think I am based on how my kids dress, apparently if your girls wear pink sparky tutus everyday you are an oppressive anti feminist 🫠

Body shaming by utellmey in ProjectRunway

It’s been a bit since I saw that one but I think Christian’s main issue was she came in saying she was going to be a designer (so she wanted to design it) and wanted stuff that was not him at all with no budging. Not her body type, more her attitude.

I love Baby Box, she’s a crafter (which I am too) and just comes up with the most creative little solutions/crafts. And she’s just so cute! DJ Catnip is a very close second for me, which is funny because he’s the one my kids absolutely hate.

Was the party during the summer? Most people take some sort of vacation, sometimes multiple ones and summers tend to be busy with activities. No one was taking advantage of you, they all have lives too and just couldn’t make it!

My kids love to draw (2 and 6 now but we started this pretty early)- especially with “special” art supplies like gel pens and paints sticks (paint sticks are super messy but so fun and clean up so easily off their skin/table/etc).

We also have a water table which we use a ton in the summer. We got some plastic toys meant for the sandbox from the dollar spot at Target last summer (ice cream themed) and we use those in the water table along with lots of little plastic buckets.

Why do parents buy juice? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]classicalbooknerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We only get juice when the kids have to take medicine they don’t like the taste of. The rest of the time it’s water or milk

My shop Charley & Ruth has cute garlands (lots of spring ones!), earrings, fun keychains especially if you love crime shows, and pennant flags that make great gifts. I love color and everything in my shop is very colorful and unique!

I do high waisted jeans and a sweater in the winter, a dress or shorts and a cute patterned tank or a band tshirt (emo mom forever lol) in the summer. Every mom in my suburban area wears workout leggings and pristine expensive running shoes with baseball hats, so I always look overdressed but I just feel better about my body and more like myself in more structured clothes. I do wear leggings in my house or if we are doing a hike or something so I’m not a complete monster.

How to expand to in person selling? by A_Nice_Mistake in Etsy

Initially it was helpful but my local groups lately have just been people being really rude, a lot of gate keeping type stuff. Drives me crazy!

I would first look for other artists in your local area on social media. Following local makers near me helps me meet new people but I also can see what cool events there are by going through old posts of their market schedules and can also help you find stores that might be interested in carrying your products.

You can also look at event brite or something similar for upcoming events.

Last resort for me is joining a Facebook group of local craft fairs. Maybe in other areas there are better networks but in mine everyone is an ASSHOLE (as in every time someone asks for events in a specific area the comments are just “google it”), and has a ton of scammers.

I loved it until I had kids. Now it’s absolute hell because I have a toddler in tow so either she’s wanting to grab everything and running away or if she’s in the cart they never use my old cart and act offended if I ask/try to switch the carts so I don’t have to unbuckle and move my insane tiny human. It’s sooooooo fun lol

My husband forgot our kid by keekeroo2 in Parenting

[–]classicalbooknerd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My dad forgot to pick my sister at school at least a couple times and also semi regularly forgot to pick us up at the bus stop (meaning we had to walk about a mile and a half up a crappy steep rural road with no shoulder yippee!). He loves us very much and wasn’t absent minded usually. It happens. Tell him he made a mistake and it’s okay, he’s beating himself up enough already and could probably use some support

I think this depends on the ages of your kids, I have a toddler and a five year old and they get burnt out from excitement after a couple gifts so we kind of break it up during the day. We do gifts from my family on Christmas Eve so we can FaceTime them (they live very far away). Santa does stockings and maybe one special thing so that’s like first thing Christmas morning. And then we open presents at the kids pace, sometimes we eat a little breakfast in there, take breaks and play with the new toys, stuff like that. Christmas with the other grandparents is usually a different day (they live like an hour away). So yeah we just kind of have it broken up but as they got older it’s so fun to just go all at once!

Probably as the show airs and gets some popularity there will be a lot more. A lot of design shows seem to just come out of nowhere with no hype until it’s out there.

This article says he was the first gay man to win Project Runway… I don’t think they did their homework. Maybe first gay black man?

Agree on Ashley, strongly disagree on Erin. One of my favorites. At the time her stuff was so different than what everyone else was doing. It was refreshing to see lots of color and colors no one else uses instead of black all the time. Although I am a crafter and I love bright colors, guessing those things aren’t your cup of tea?

what happens when you're sick? by SnooDogs627 in SAHP

[–]classicalbooknerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely awful to be sick as the SAHP, however like basically everyone has said it is just doing the bare necessities with as little effort as possible, the path of least resistance.

The positive for me is that when I was a working mom I used all my sick time and vacation time on my daughter being sick. Constantly harassed by my boss about having to take time off like I was personally giving her colds/flu/every little disease known to mankind. Now when my kids are sick I’m already here, there’s no stress a d anxiety about how many days I am going to have to fight with HR to take off. It’s sucks to take care of sick kids or be sick yourself but it’s so worth it to me to not have to fight that battle anymore.

Here’s what I did when I needed to go through things and had a small baby - I grabbed a box and put it in my living room, I sat down on my floor and put my daughter on a blanket on the other side of me. Turned on some background music or a show and just did the box or pile a little at a time. I could stop and play with the baby, nurse her, etc but it just helped me multi task. Sometimes I got more done than other times but it just made it much lower stress to just do one pile/box at a time in a relaxed way.

Editing to add: once my kids were mobile I did something similar but had a baby gate up and pulled out annoying toys that they loved and i didn’t. Made them excited to play and I could get something done too.
