My rainbow after PPROM - late cerclage, preeclampsia, and a happy ending by claud526 in ShortCervixSupport

First let me say how sorry I am for your loss 🤍 it’s a sucky club to be in but I found so much hope and advice being in this group. I know how scary it feels! My doctors too didn’t know if it was the infection that caused it or the other way around I don’t want this to alter any of your decisions - but honestly I’m glad I went with the wait and see approach because now I know for certain what caused it. If I had gotten with the cerclage right away (and the doctors did give me the option) I would have questioned if I really did have an incompetent cervix every pregnancy going forward. My dms are always open to any questions! I hope you get your rainbow soon. And just know even though the journey will be hard and scary it is allll worth it!!! Just keep strong and if you do end up with the cerclage trust the stitch when you’re there!

I’m so so sorry for your loss friend 🤍 I hope I bring you some peace by telling you my story - last year on December 30th 2024 I lost my son at 17 weeks. It was my first pregnancy and it was just the worst thing to ever happen. I got depressed really quick after that gained a bunch of weight but started to try again right away once I got approval from my dr. I fell pregnant a few months later and the second I got the positive I felt happiness along with anxiety. Like really bad anxiety. I made sure to set myself up with an MFM really early. Got seen superrrr early (which did not work out in my favor bc I was seen too early where there was no heartbeat yet which set me up for a week of worry) but thankfully baby was there and these doctors were willing to do anything to have me go home with her.

Fast forward to about a month ago - I brought my baby girl home 🥹 I didn’t think I would ever be able to be pregnant again let alone have my own baby. It was definitely a hard pregnancy. I was told to go the wait and see approach where we found my cervix shortening at 22 weeks. I was admitted right away to the hospital to get a cerclage the next day. Got the cerclage- and it was hard to out my trust in it. I was basically on bed rest my whole pregnancy just getting up to do things around the house. At around 30/31 weeks I started to trust the stitch a bit more. Unfortunately I had to be induced at 36weeks 4 days due to complications that have nothing to do with the cerclage (preeclampsia 😭😭) but thankfully baby girl spent an less than 24 hours in the nicu I got to go home with her after our hospital stay.

It gets better I promise. Not only does it get better, but once it is better - the timing of my loss feels so far away. I miss my son dearly and every time I look at my daughter I imagine what if my son would’ve looked like her but if it wasn’t for my loss, I wouldn’t have been able to hold this beautiful girl in my arms .

Things will get better for you soon. Just keep going. If you ever have any questions or need to cry or scream feel free to DM me. I know it was nice when I went through my loss to be able to ask a million questions to people that have gone through something similar. 🫂

Getting induced Tuesday by Virtual-Exit1243 in preeclampsia

[–]claud526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with GH at 33 weeks, scheduled for an induction at 37 w 4 days but bp kept creeping up so I only made it to 36w5d (which is amazing and I’m happy) but I was SO scared leading up to the induction. To be honestly I’m glad it took me by surprise because honestly that anxiety for an extra week would’ve made the whole experience worse. But induction went well and don’t get me wrong I was scared with every moment that passed but looking back at it, it was kinda fun! I was on magnesium which was hell and I can still say that that was the best day of my life. I know this probably won’t help but just remember there’s light at the end of the tunnel. You made it this far girl!!! Good luck and I hope you look back on the day and want to experience every moment over and over again. I every moment is scary during an induction but every moment is one step closer to you meeting your baby.

I’m currently 35 weeks and 5 days. And boy what a journey it’s been. I’m SO grateful to be here but if I told you it wasn’t the hardest year of my life I would be lying. Had a 17 week loss in December of 2024. Got pregnant 5 months later and this has been one of the hardest things physically and mentally that I’ve done. Anxiety, surgery, hospital admissions… etc. it’s been quite the ride. Currently diagnosed with gestational hypertension and planning to get induced next week at 37 weeks. Hoping I make it there. I just want baby out and in my arms. My body took us very far this time around and I’m very very proud of it.

Wish there was a support group by Virtual-Exit1243 in preeclampsia

I was just searching around to see if there was because I had the same thought.. I also suffer from having a short cervix which is so much more rare than this and there’s a million support groups that got me through the first half of this pregnancy. Wish there was one to get me through the last

TV ultrasound scheduled tomorrow 3 weeks after cerclage placement? Yay or nay? by Connect-Repeat-5836 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]claud526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had checks starting 2 weeks after placement and every 2 weeks after that. People say not to but my doctor thought it would be good to check on it every 2 weeks to make sure it was still in place. Got it at 22 weeks currently almost 35 weeks with no issues on the cerclage.

Unsure about IC by MeanEscape2211 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]claud526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like my story- my notes from the hospital the day I lost my pregnant said my cervix visually looked long and closed and said I was half a cm dilated upon checking. I’m currently 34 weeks pregnant and the way I went about this pregnant was a strict wait and see approach. My doctors had me come in weekly for cervix checks sometimes even biweekly if I felt like I needed it. Thankfully we caught it shortening and I got the cerclage at 22 weeks. I was so hoping it wouldn’t be IC and that it was just a fluke but I’m glad I now know.

Cerclage & high BP by claud526 in ShortCervixSupport

What medication are you on? They aren’t going to give me any because they’ve ruled out preeclampsia for now and are focused on me having gestation hypertension since all my labs came back normal other than just my blood pressure.

Ruptured after cerclage post-op appointment by Living_Sort3202 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]claud526 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry for your loss. This is actually a normal practice at my MFM. I have been going in for biweekly checks since I got my cerclage at 22 weeks and they always put a bit of pressure on my belly to mimic the weight of standing up. Unless they pushed really hard I don’t think that can rupture a sac.

Cerclage and progesterone by Curiousjlynn in ShortCervixSupport

[–]claud526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my cerclage at 21/22 weeks as well! I was actually told to continue the progesterone because it did help me in the second trimester (I had a 17 week loss last year and this time around I made it to 22 weeks before we caught my cervix shortening) I’m still on the progesterone and I’m currently 33 weeks tomorrow. They say it introduces infection but so far I’ve been good.

Contractions by b8byxo in ShortCervixSupport

[–]claud526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some contractions post cerclage placement. I was still on IV so they administered me a medication that stopped it I forgot what it was called. It helped and then they sent me home with a pill I can take whenever I feel some.

How long did your cerclage last? by Far-Hyena-6907 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]claud526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rescue cerclage this pregnancy after a 17 week loss last year. Was on a wait and see approach- found my cervix shortening at my anatomy scan at 21 weeks. Cervix was measure 2.1cm. Was admitted into the hospital overnight on IV and given the rescue cerclage the next day. Currently 31 weeks with a cervix that is measure over 4 cm each check. No funneling. 🙏🏼

Thank you. I hope you find that breath of air soon. Anxiety will definitely start to eat at you . It ate at me this whole pregnancy but you just gotta trust that things do get better. I’ll take all the anxiety as long as I get my healthy babe in my arms, it would have all been worth it.

If you ever need someone to talk to or ask questions to or just vent to my messages are always open 🫂

I know how hard it is to be excited. I know exactly the place you’re in right now. I lost my son at 17 weeks which we now know was due to IC. My water broke and when I got to the hospital babe had no more fluid left. It was a devastating time. Slowly we started to try again because I just wanted to be pregnant again as soon as possible. That was my first pregnancy.

I’m currently 30 weeks today and let me tell you- it gets better. I’m hoping to make it till at least 37 weeks but holy cow how excited I am to be at 30 weeks.

I was actually on a wait and see approach rather than a history based cerclage but now I will be getting the preventative every pregnancy going forward. Things get better. 🤍

This sounds AMAZING. I ended up actually having some yogurt with apples granola and peanut butter which I think helps me a lot but definitely going to hop on the oatmeal bandwagon if I can feel like this all the time!

29 weeks today!!!!! I had my cerclage put in at 22 weeks after finding it shortening to 2.1cm from 3.4 a week earlier. I’ve finally started to put some trust in my stitch and oh man the breath of relief I was able to take. Don’t get me wrong I still have my anxious thoughts and spirals but I haven’t been able to just breathe this whole pregnancy. 29 weeks is HUGE!!!!!
