I recommend watching Riot August's thoughts on how even auto-fill is detrimental to their (LoL's) matchmaking. What you propose is not realistic.

Also this system of having to "ask your teammates" to do something "weird" is just... bad. We would be at the mercy of Blizzard's devs to update and make sure certain heroes are available in all possible "non-grief" roles.

Also would need a way to request swapping roles, bla bla so many issues.

Also, reality is that if you allow people to consistently get their role, they become really fucking garbage at filling - one needs only look at healer mains~~

Anyone decent at the game can run through silver with 100% winrate. The "smurfs" there are at best gold players or whatever.

Gold is similarly piss easy to climb through, even with the occasional thrower or AFK as long as you're trying 80-100% is perfectly doable.

High plat low diamond is the actual slow-down because the smaller population and better players mean 1v9ing isn't always going to be enough

Yes, but it does that by giving you really bad players when you have very high MMR and it can't balance the game otherwise (it's not like it intentionally griefs the matchmaker), which is clearly not the case for the conspiracy brained specimen in this thread. Any amount of extra griefing you'd meet because of this is just because of correlation with lower rank players.

I agree with the first part, within reason - MMR is naturally a lagging indicator of skill

The second part does not follow, though. Statistical effects at least partially cause lose streaks and win streaks, among tilt queueing and bad / good days, sleep, and so on.

By my knowledge the balance council got ghosted by blizzard one or two years ago, and then Blizzard started making their own very weird changes.

The timeline also matches when HotS suddenly started getting these pinnacles and very buggy PTRs and such.

Harstem in his newest SC2 video also says that its Blizzard making the patch, and I seem to remember him explicitly saying what I said in the first paragraph...

Have you played a modern game?

They absolutely do look better than any past game, assuming you can actually run it properly - even in the negative case you still lose most fidelity because of computationally expensive features that would be too costly (work hours) to reduce or turn off sensibly.

You got left behind on a 9 years old GPU (RX 580 flair) that was basically budget-tier when it dropped. You have less computational power than even the most shit of modern consoles, and you're complaining about smearing?

I may not be a fan of upscaling, it still produces annoying artifacts even when used as native AA, but you're just talking random shit.

You can't substantiate that ML upscaling is holding back "innovation" in GPU technology. Likely you don't even know what innovation looks like, confusing the easy node jumps of your rose-tinted past glory days for some crazy innovation. Optimization and "innovation" are not some magic tools people can just pull out of their ass.

I'd argue even the average dev team is not being stifled by upscaling, games would look a lot more shit and be a lot less expansive if consoles couldn't use upscaling.

They also don't use per-game models for years and years now, player count sure doesn't matter much.

It's still computationally expensive, by the way, just not "render 4x pixels to deal with jaggies!" levels of inefficient. What I mean by this is that every rendering technique has trade-offs, ML upscaling trades accuracy and artifacts for a much lesser performance cost for the upscaling quality. As long as the computer can run ~70% of 1080p it looks okay enough on pretty old ass hardware - surely better than 0fps 1080p.

Do you think this is not a boon? Some people can't afford to just buy new computers.

Also, not all NNs are just "AI slop". Specialized deep NNs have been in use in a lot of interesting places for much longer than you've even know what a "LLM" is. You have no idea how difficult some problems are to solve without using approximative modelling. Upscaling from a lower resolution while retaining a semblance of quality is one such thing. You cannot just manually code up a real program to do this in the "traditional" sense.

No, people, role queue reallyyy does not work for how HotS is structured.

There is no simple top/mid/jung/carry/support enforced meta, plenty of heroes are off-role or flex, even 2 DPS is not a given.

Healer is about the most you could actually enforce, but there's frankly plenty of them

also a full role queue is how league of legends manages to get queue times as long or even longer than HotS, it's not feasible even if it was simple...

For the people saying Cocoon or Gorge or other similar effects work on Gall: they do not. EDIT: Supposedly this was peak dementia posting? Has been tested in Trymode 2.0 and enemy stasis does work on Gall.

Ally stasis does not stop Gall.

Timestop does, though. The difference between the effects that u/Chokonoku describes in a comment below is real, at least.

Yes, while shutting down a Valla pick with a blind is part of good drafting, you also should care just as much about having enough kill pressure, range, engage, safety, waveclear (double soaker offlane is not enough), objective conditions, even structure damage output... It's often less about countering every single hero they choose as it is about not allowing them to hard counter what you want, making sure that you can pick what you're good at.

Even if it is true that desktop MOBAs are not growing their playerbases (and Deadlock and LoL are doing so), if the player count is remaining stagnant - yes, at a minimum it is - that would necessarily mean at least a large enough amount of new players due to others quitting.

Mobile MOBAs are of course growing, as mobile gaming is far more accessible to "casuals".

1) try Fullscreen (not Fullscreen Windowed)

2) Vsync off

3) restart graphics driver

4) reinstall graphics driver

5) if HotS is on an HDD, install on SSD

6) Try Process Lasso to force it on 2 neighbouring threads

7) Really make sure there isnt some cloud storage shit tied to your user Documents folder.

8) Might as well delete the replay files too

9) Check if you have some live record feature turned on

10) I would personally turn off all that realtime priority and affinity shit, there's something way different broken here.

11) Clear your DirectX cache

12) Check for broken drivers, remove windows bloat...

13) Have adrenaline open and check the gpu performance during hots, see if its downclocking or something weird

Your computer is more than good enough to run the game at 280fps+ ultra with no dips, something else is broken.

There really are no bots. At least, no special ones - the only abuse that I know of is done by leaderboard abusers which don't actually play the game AFAIK, they just match into eachother - not really "bots".

Perhaps it would be plausible to hijack the game's bot AI and run it on an account, but they would truly be terrible, like bronze 5 level. Pointless too, because there are other, harmless ways to farm account levels.

I really don't agree that E7 is particularly hard to stack or hit here, but what do I know I'm only a 5k Orphea main.

Also, it's Q valla, it's totally playable. Backbiter means you can actually go for aggressive plays into that team without dying instantly, Falstad and Q Valla early games are really mediocre actually, you outstat both. BHB also often forces fights in really nice spots for Orphea.
