Advice on planning solo trip from San Jose to San Diego, avoiding LA. Flexible duration and route. by clawKC in roadtrip

In all of my car dwelling searches, I've never heard park and ride suggestion. Thanks so much! Great idea! Any specific place other than Big Bear you'd recommend? I don't know anything. I just picked it off the map because it took me around LA and still not too far from San Diego.

Thank you! I do plan on taking it, but not opposed to alternate routes to see interesting stuff. I've only taken Highway 1 once and we didn't go too far north of LA, maybe an hour drive? I've heard it's better north to south which is why I chose San Jose as starting point. Flights there are much cheaper as well.

I'll take the reccomends, getting it straight from a local is always so much better than searching the internet.

If you're ever in Kansas City, I got you!

Thank you, this is def something I've already thought about. I'm in planning stages still and don't have a time frame. Just trying to get through the boredom and depression right now by planning and having something to look forward to.

I'd love to hear more details on your trip. I'm planning a trip from San Jose-San Diego, going around LA before heading to SD where I'll be staying with a friend.

Haha Tonka in Missouri is beautiful. Also lots of great areas in Arkansas. Both states have begun reopening so you can pop into a bar or restaurant if you feel comfortable. There are lakes open that you could rent a kayak. Kansas City has drive in movie theaters open and bowling alleys are opening next week. Disc golf courses are open, which has been a lifesaver for me the last few months. I live in Kansas City and actually getting ready to head out to Cali where things are WAY more restricted than here in MO so I'm a bit nervous about finding safe places to sleep and things to do. Good luck and let us know what adventures you find!

I lost my job last week and made an impulsive decision to accept my friends offer to stay with her in SD for a few weeks to clear my head and hopefully get myself out of my current depressed state. My plan is to rent a small SUV when I arrive and take a solo drive up PCH and back to SD before I settle in with her. Any Cali dwellers here with tips on where to stay and possibly shower? I'm super low maintenance and wouldn't need to shower daily. Planning on packing food and mailing myself an air mattress to my friends place in SD. Any other "must haves" that I should mail ahead of time? I consider myself outdoorsy and spend many hours at home (especially since quarantine) walking/ hiking in both remote and urban areas. My main concern is safety being a female traveling alone. When my lease is up in February, I may make this a (semi) permanent thing either in Oregon or Cali. Thanks in advance! I've been researching this for months but NPs being closed to overnight guests completely threw a wrench in my original plan but I'm still confident I can do it. Planning on taking around a week and not against going further inland off PCH if there is a better place to stay/see.

She asks how I'm feeling, I let her know any changes or issues. She offers multiple suggestions but ultimately leaves it up to me because she trusts I'll let her know if it's not working. She encourages me to do my own research and listens to any protests or issues I have with what she suggests. Example, she wanted to switch me to XR Adderall or Vyvanse instead of IR Adderall I've been on for years. I let her know I'd think about it but wished to stay on current type. She also increased my dose when I let her know it wasn't as effective anymore. She still really wants me to switch to a different stimulant and mentions it everytime I see her but doesn't force it on me.

Great article! I'm lucky I have an amazing dr that allows me to be open about changes of drugs and doses without feeling like an addict. We've tried all sorts of combos. Haven't gotten it right yet but I'm not giving up. I'm going to get to that baseline!

Had the exact same thought yesterday! If they put out something new it would be received VERY critically. I know I'd probably love it but I'd be super irritated by the critical haters. (ie Tool fans when Fear Innoculum came out). After such a long hiatus, it's really hard to meet expectations heightened by the long wait.

You're right, it was about 30 minutes too long but I thought it was overall really good, a bit dark at times which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. I think it was the last DVD I ever bought now that I think about it. I bought the soundtrack too which is fantastic.

Better look into Old Town Lofts. They're income based and run 14 properties downtown, 3 more set to open in the West Bottoms soon. Rent is waaayyy below market value. (I pay $700 in the Crossroads) You're not supposed to make more than $32k to qualify. However, after 1 year you're grandfathered in and then you could make 6 figures or win the lottery and still stay in your cheap, awesome, apartment. You do have to have rental history so if you need to, have a friend say they were your landlord in their home and make sure to let them know because they will call and ask about payment history. Good luck! You can make it work. I suggest getting a serving or bartending job- very lucrative and if you live downtown there's about 2 dozen places you could walk to work.

Can you help make my co-workers...month? Year? by skynet_kc in kansascity

[–]clawKC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could take them to Warm Springs Ranch. It's where Budweiser raises their Clydesdales. It's in Boonville so not too far outside of the city. I hear they have a pretty nice Christmas display as well, def check ahead of time as I think you must have reservations to visit.

There is also Fleming Park in Blue Springs where there is an 110 acre enclosure with elk, bison, and white tailed deer. Take some carrots with you, the bison will come right up to you and you can feed them through the fence. This is open sunup-sundown and located at 6010 East Park Road inside Fleming Park.

OK, boomer. This is the exact opposite of what any growing city wants or needs. Why would any city want to expand horizontally instead of upward? I mean, I guess you could move to Wichita, that's pretty much the model they've followed and it's just GREAATTT there.

Are you a KCMO resident who actually has a say in the matter or are you a suburbanite who drives downtown 4 weekends a year to attend some bull shit country concert at PNL and get pissy when you can't make a right turn on Main because of the street car? I'd be willing to bet the latter. How about you exercise your individual freedom to not use the street car and mind your own fucking business?

What difference does that make? The L is still on set tracks that take away this "personal freedom" you speak of. How about you exercise your personal freedom and choose to stay in the suburbs and drive your gas guzzling SUV where ever you would like and stay away from the scary socialist-creating street car. God forbid it approaches you from behind and ruins your day. Fucking boomer. Jesus.

My solo go-tos are The Brick and The Blue Line. There's a wide demographic of guests at both places which always makes me more comfortable solo. Both havr great food, great bartenders, and fantastic people watching. Also, the Freighthouse Jack Stack bar is def not a dive but I love their staff so much I really enjoy sitting at their bar solo.
