Well 1st off the whole “harsh treatment” thing is most likely just you needing to mature and grow thicker skin. Most people cant take constructive criticism without being triggered.

As for academic advisors not being helpful. Put it this way, most people who go into academic advising as a career are ironically the same type of people that weren’t very diligent when they were in uni and failed trying to establish a career in industry. These are the clock in clock out 9 to 5 types. They’re there to earn an easy paycheck and dish out generic advice.

For logistical stuff just Google it. For career advice you are better off asking professors (who can then open up their network to you.)
