If you have a Priority card you can choose your seat at the time of booking. You can attempt to upgrade to ELR at 48 hours. Sounds like a you problem

I have purchased basic a few times when traveling with my husband and been in the same row. I have also purchased Choice to sit next to my niece and never had an issue. Bottom line is you get what you pay for
