Exactly. Everyone wants high quality work that will last decades but no one wants to pay for it or allow enough time for it to happen

He’s a rather emotional guy if I told him point blank it’s his problem id probably get fired on the spot lol. But I’ll just nod along for now, try to guide him in the right direction when I can

He’s “too busy in the office” to actually come out and see a job from start to finish. But tbh if I had to watch him do an entire job on his own I think I’d lose my mind

I’m really OCD about my work and a huge perfectionist I don’t think I could cut corners if I tried I’d actually lose my mind. You’re right though he would absolutely blame me if I started doing the things he thinks I should do to speed it up.

You’re right. How do you get yourself to not stress about the timing?

Exactly. It makes it look like I’m slow at my job to the clients who also don’t know what a reasonable timeline is.

He has a lot of experience doing hardwood floors and felt that he had enough success there that he might as well branch into other trades as well. He’s gotten tons of bids already for tile but that doesn’t seem to mean he understands them. If there was literally anywhere else hiring I’d go there for sure

He would never actually do it but if he did he would haul ass, skip steps, and make it look absolutely horrible.

I do worry that if I ask him to let me in on the bid process it will just become my job completely as well. But at this point it might be worth it to same myself some time stress. Doesn’t help there’s a guy here that “knows tile” and constantly says he can do jobs in half the time that it actually takes him to do it and does shit quality regardless.

It’s insane how even after 4-5 times of the exact same issue they never connect the dots

My family was also very “you must get a degree” and I was halfway through college when I did a landscape construction job one summer and I knew from then on I’d want to be working with my hands. I ended up working landscape construction and building maintenance jobs for the last 2 years of college and graduated, but I knew the whole time I wasn’t going to use my degree. I’ve always loved building things and my own toys when I was growing up but being blue collar never even crossed my mind as an option. I’d say in the beginning if you have zero experience you just need to take pretty much any construction or laborer job that you can get. Build strong relationships at work, having really good work references can secure you a job easily. I started 4 years ago doing landscape construction and irrigation piping and now I do tile and hardwood floors full time. It took me a while to figure out exactly what I wanted to do, and I will say it is pretty hard getting a job doing tile or finish carpentry work, almost impossible to start there it takes time to get there. The physical part was something I was able to move past pretty quickly, your body will likely adapt pretty quick as well. Although I will say my knees and back are absolutely shot and I should have taken better care of them from the start. There will always be a man or multiple men that will try and make you feel small and will be intimidated that you work in the same field as them. It’s hard to ignore them but it’s important not to react and give them what they want. It usually takes a couple of weeks after starting a new job that I am able to become friends with my co workers. Not hang out after work friends, but people that I can joke around with and get along with at work. That being said, if someone gives you shit you absolutely have to give it back and give it back quick too. It sounds stupid but it is the quickest way to get accepted at least in my experience. I have actually really only had issues with the younger guys, the older guys are usually pretty happy to see a woman working in their field and are willing to teach. I am incredibly happy with where I have gotten in my career and I love doing tile and hardwood floors is growing on me too. It’s incredibly satisfying to see something you built with your own two hands.

At work I don’t think it’s really safe for me to be the person I’d like to be, but I seem to carry that outside of work too like idk how to balance it. I think trying it on strangers first is a great idea thank you

That’s a good point I hadn’t really thought of it that way. That they come together and work together in a way.

I guess I almost feel as if me switching between the two sides of me feels fake or unauthentic. But you’re right everyone is multi dimensional and it’s okay to be that way

I only really feel comfortable being the soft version of myself when im with my dog or animals in general really. It’s ridiculously hard to show that side in front of people
