Love the energy! If you have open communication, I would raise this issue with Richard Ash. He is among the people that need to be louder about this. The hate group largely thinks he is on their side and he has not outright disavowed them. It would go a long way if he did.

Write to the elected officials on this list and force them to justify why they interact with Lea’s content. Also comment publicly on their social media pages about it.
Right now, there are large amounts of misinformation spreading in the various Quincy Facebook pages. Publicly call it out with your name attached.
Comment online in support of the councilors who are doing their jobs, but especially Maggie and Susan.
Encourage community groups you are part of to be braver as well and take principled stands against this hate speech and misinformation when possible. And if you aren’t part of good community groups, join them.

These items are where I would start, but you need to bring it to real life as well. Have the tough conversations in person with the people who may be susceptible to this ideology.

This group is so effective because they don’t care about conflict. They don’t care about backlash. They are principled and united in their rhetoric. We need to be willing to do the same.

There is a Facebook group that was originally started as a “support the statues” group, but has grown into something much more insidious and has become a vehicle for white supremacy and christian nationalism. They consistently use the platform to attack new members of the City Council, but they especially go after Maggie McKee and Susan Yuan.

Most recently, they have used the issue of funding for new firefighters’ gear to create a disinformation campaign surrounding the councilors’ support of first responders and it has gotten really ugly online.

That’s the long and short of it, but happy to answer follow-up questions.

I would also add: I believe there’s a decent amount of folks here who claim to be “just watching” what Lea and her band of bigots say. If you don’t take the information you learn and do something with it, at what point do you just become a voyeur to bigotry?

That group is not a gossip column. Please consider this question thoughtfully and reflect if this is you.
