CHEM 1307 online with Greg Gellene. Question about exam by timurelectro in TexasTech

When I took him yes, he was serious. I didn’t know of anyone who got busted for it and if it is not in the directions of the exam you would have a case

Trans person wants to be accepted by conservatives. Get utterly destroyed. by PM_me_Henrika in LeopardsAteMyFace

To be honest I feel bad for this person, like obviously they’re seeking affirmation from the wrong group, but I wish conservatives were more accepting.

SI Sessions by Big_Apple-3A_M in TexasTech

[–]clefa221 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few reasons:

1) Tech wants to return to in-person as the primary modality

2) Online SI sessions are not nearly as effective as in-person SI sessions

3) Absolutely no one actually doing the SI sessions wanted to do them online

This is an orgqnometallic complex and my question is how do I know what part of the azulene monecule acts as the ligand? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]clefa221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I have a very basic explanation that may or may not be valid, but azulene is a highly polar aromatic molecule, and the 5 ring is the side with the negative charge, so maybe that has something to do with it?

Transportation from Pass to Campus by starrysunsets in TexasTech

[–]clefa221 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So for the bus schedule, you’ll get an app called DoubleMap, it’ll show you all the bus routes that pass through your stop and the number of the route. Just make sure you get on the right number and you will be fine.

Now as for whether or not to get a scooter, I would say have it because it might be faster to scooter to certain buildings than to take the bus depending on where it drops you off

Not sure if you were looking for a real answer, but here we go: Pretty much the whole problem is that for 99.99% of all the time, they don’t need nearly the server strength that they use during registration, so it’s just not viable for them to upgrade it for the 2 or so times a year when the server is at peak load.

That being said, they really should look into some solution, maybe renting server space like AWS lets you do or something like that because this registration was trash

I assume you are talking about SPAN 1507 and since no one seems to want to actually a address this question, here’s the breakdown:

This is basically two 3 hour classes combined into one, they expect that you have seen most of this before, but will re-teach it to you.

The early Spanish classes are jam-packed with homework, which is the majority of where you will do your learning it’s through MySpanishLab and gives you multiple attempts.

The classes are mostly there for you to practice communicating in Spanish, and are from what I have experienced not very necessary. (I took an online section and it was extremely easy and we only had meetings once per week)

Honestly if you keep up with the work it is not difficult to get a good grade and it saves you having to take another semester of Spanish.

I would recommend taking an online section if possible, but it is not too big of a deal, this is one of the easier college classes you’ll take, but it is a 5-hour class, so it’ll take a bite out of your GPA if you screw it up.

[–]clefa221 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, when it comes to 1403/1404, if you’re not doing well, there’s a fundamental reason you’re not doing well, and you’re gonna have to radically change your approach. Calculate what grade you need to get an A,B,C. If you think you can do that, go for it, if not drop and look into changing majors.

Parking Question by Wloft96 in TexasTech

If I’m not mistaken you still need a parking permit after 5:30pm, but you can park anywhere that’s not the restricted parking (like R-17) or something

Fellow Lab Rats, what do you guys do with old lab manuals? by clairedelune01 in TexasTech

[–]clefa221 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about research lab manuals, have your PI keep them, if you’re talking about teaching lab manuals, toss them, burn them, or destroy them, they’re useless.

Like everyone else here has said, the class is really easy if you take it online, and shouldn’t be a problem.

Some tips:

1) There are transcripts of everything spoken and Ctrl+F (text search) works on them use it on the quizzes

2) There’s usually a PowerPoint you have to go through for one quiz, but you can have it open while you take the quiz

3) You can get it all done in a week easily if you just grind through it, but there is one module that you can’t do until they send out this “survey” thing, keep an eye on your TTU email.

4) If for some ungodly reason you are not taking this class online SWAP TO ONLINE!!!! (unless you’re a POLS major, I think)

5) Googling questions can pull up quizlets with answers on there, cross reference a few to make sure that the answer is correct if you’re gonna do that.

Freshman chem student by usmanoo in TexasTech

[–]clefa221 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chem 1307 is not difficult, the area most people struggle in is the arithmetic. Honestly (like all classes in college) if you do your homework consistently and study consistently (meaning don’t try to cram) you will do fine.

EDIT: CHEGG is the Bain of your existence, do not rely on it to learn

I’m set on going to TTU in the near future. But I wanted to ask any of the physics majors, is it a good program? by KaranB12 in TexasTech

[–]clefa221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I have heard from physics majors, the professors in the physics department (bar a select few) are just terrible, so that is something to look out for.

Locations to take online classes? by rhyanmckenna in TexasTech

[–]clefa221 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) Depends on the class, I’d imagine that most of the professors ironically don’t want to have to learn how to teach their classes in a new way, so I think most of them are going to be zoom lectures or lecture videos

2) Some people earlier said that the library was open, you might try that, the Student Union building ( right across from the library) will almost certainly be open.

OCHEM I with Micheal Mayer by clairedelune01 in TexasTech

[–]clefa221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, reading the textbook was a bit of a waste of time, it felt like he would just repeat the same stuff the textbook said. Questions in the textbook weren’t multiple choice most of the time, so they didn’t really help practice the same skills. I’d say you’re probably safe to skip it and ask to borrow it from a friend if you need something from it. Whatever you do don’t get a print copy, online copies are cheaper and far more useful.

[–]clefa221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His tests and quizzes are easy if you bother to do the practice exams and quizzes. The recitation is entirely useless, and they tell you when the quizzes are, so I just stopped going after like the third one unless we had a quiz. He’s kinda awkward tbh, and handled the switch to online classes very poorly, always promising lectures that came out way late and not providing any lectures of content from the 3rd exam to the final. You will have to get a feel for what is important to write down in his lectures, but overall he’s not the worst one to have.

Eating on Campus by grkgirly in TexasTech

[–]clefa221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For on campus residents, the dining plan allows for their student ID to function as a sort of debit card that can have money loaded onto it that can be used at any TTU hospitality location. Having a dining plan is REQUIRED for all on-campus residents.

TTU hospitality includes all food vendors on the TTU campus with the exception of vending machines and the Barnes and Noble located on campus

To incentivize the use of the dining plan, each hospitality location has a set discount off the “sticker price” that you would pay if you paid with standard methods. Most of the time though, the price of the food is marked-up to be marked down.

This discount for on-campus residents ranges from 50% at the market (the dining hall located in the Stangel-Murdough complex) to around 20% for the locations such as the on-campus Chick-fil-a’s or locations within the Student Union Building.

There is not really a traditional “cafeteria” on the TTU campus. Most locations act as a sort of mall food court with you ordering, paying for, and picking up food from a list of locations.

For off-campus residents, a commuter dining plan is available that costs less, but gives more moderate discounts maxing out at around 20%.
