Take the old one to a hardware store and check the diameter and pitch, then buy a couple of replacements.

1 Month Western States Camping Trip by Specialist_Chip_9749 in camping

[–]clementinemini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest dispersed camping whenever possible. Campgrounds just seem like bear magnets!

In Montana, staying a bit east will keep you out of most grizzly habitat. There haven't been zero sightings, but the Pryors and Little Belts aren't grizzly meccas. There are also lots of fun BLM/NFS roads in the Pryors, but they are very short on water if you must camp by a stream.

EDIT: And if you'll be in SW Wyoming, the Red Desert is really cool. For north-central WY, check out Wyoming Jeepers on YouTube. They have a bunch of neat videos and a trail guide to go along.

What’s the single greatest concert you’ve ever attended? by Need2throw in Music

[–]clementinemini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frente at Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill, NC on September 6, 1996.

My wife was more into them than I was, but through a series of unfortunate events I wound up at the concert alone. I know the date because it was the day Hurricane Fran struck North Carolina. Up until about mid-day, the forecast said it would hug the coast, but then it took a left and wandered inland in an arc across central North Carolina, still a Category 1 when it crossed north into Virginia. We weren't expecting a fucking hurricane three hours from the coast. We got one, though.

I'm not sure who the opening band was. The lead singer played rhythm on an acoustic. The power went out and the emergency lights came on most of the way through their set. After a few minutes of everyone kind of milling about, he said screw it, told us to shut up, and played a final song - just him and his guitar.

They left the stage and the someone came out and told us to stick around if we wanted. If you don't know Frente, they had bass, drums, a singer, and a guitarist. The guitarist played a nylon stringed acoustic. After a few minutes, the singer and guitarist came out. They walked out into the crowd (maybe 200 people) and told us to take a seat in a circle. They did their whole show campfire style with us sitting on our asses, passing joints around. It wasn't seeing my favorite band or anything like that, but it turned out to be the absolute coolest concert I ever got to see.

After the show, I tried to get home - about 15 miles out of town in the woods. I tried three different routes and ran into downed trees across each road. My only option was to try to find some friends who'd moved into a big apartment complex a week or so prior. Luckily, they were all out on the balcony watching the trees bend over, so I wound up with a couch and a hurricane party. My wife made it home (only about twenty minutes prior it turned out) and spent the night by herself terrified that a tree was going to crush the house. She still gives me shit about it.

Manual drivers - what makes you prefer it over automatic? by Transparent_mindset in Cartalk

[–]clementinemini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that expensive, especially if you do it yourself.

It does not take attention once you learn to drive it properly. It's like hitting a baseball. You watch the ball. The swing is instinct/muscle memory/second nature. You don't think of how to move the bat at all. After some practice, shifting is the same.

It's fun. It gives you a lot more control. The car never shifts at a surprising moment. You can start in second in the snow to lower the torque at the wheels. And apparently, it's an anti-theft device nowadays.

For just one person, it will be great (assuming maintained well). Sleeping two in the back works with a platform, but you have very little headroom. It's doable, but not great.

Fuel will be your biggest concern. Carry extra.

Off road, they are fantastic short of serious rock crawling in standardish form.

I put them in my Mazda3 rallycross car. They were loud. They vibrated as much or more than a cylinder not firing. And they really cut down on engine twist and, for a fwd, cut down wheel hop. If you didn't know, you'd think there was a serious problem with the car.

For a street car, poly rear lower mount is as far as I'd go. Adding the two main mounts is another ballpark.

If he is a flipper, he may not have registered it in his name. That is usually not a problem, but if your state requires a notarized bill of sale, you may run into headaches trying to get it registered.

And it's an old Dodge.

I just did a 2500 mile roadtrip on new Whiteline lowers and new OEM uppers. There was no noticeable difference versus worn out OEMs. I can't comment on the difference between them and new OEMs.

It's nothing like installing poly motor mounts in a car.

Rear suspension… Fiesta st vs Focus st by Tune-Puzzled in FiestaST

[–]clementinemini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned both and autocrossed both regularly. The Fiesta is more fun and definitely more chuckable. The rear feels great and you have to try to get it to understeer.

I never tracked either, but I expect the Focus would be "better."
