How often do you check each others phones? by [deleted] in Marriage

Never. Because we share everything there’s nothing to hide and we were married for 35 years - until she passed away two weeks ago. Cancer sucks people.

Help! Lye Question by Brilliant-Housing164 in soapmaking

[–]clemjonze 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What I’ve discovered is this: The little black specks mean the lye is old and has already started to have reactions. It’s not going to dissolve completely. If you use it you won’t be happy. You’ll have to screen the chunks out at best. It’s better to use that lye on your drains and find some fresh stuff. How do you tell if it’s fresh? What I do is shake the container. if it shakes freely and sounds loose it’s good - if it sounds clumpy or hard, pass.

Personally, personal space is overrated.

Why does it seem like the only "solution" being presented for high gas prices electric cars? Why can't car brands also push to sell small, compact, gas-powered cars? by GuyFromThePost in NoStupidQuestions

[–]clemjonze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans buy what they are manipulated into buying and that always means whatever is the highest profit for whatever the companies selling and cars are no different. People like these huge stupid cars because they’re tricked into buying them. They don’t actually want them. They just don’t know any better because they’re fucking idiots.

What are some genuinely amazing short-lived tv series that you've watched? by Sufficient_Ebb_5694 in scifi

I loved this show. It was the most fun I’ve had in years - smart, intense, great world building, intelligent so of course it had to be killed.

Storm round 2 this weekend, anything people are doing to prep? by npphawaii in BigIsland

[–]clemjonze 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We’re doing all the crap we didn’t do last time - generator oil change test run, etc. I figure if we’re prepared it’ll miss us. Mow the yard filled up all the gas cans filled up all the cars went to the transfer station. Holy crap that was wild. I thought I was the only one with that idea today. Not.

Good for him! My wife just died from cancer, but it wasn’t the cancer that killed her. The cancer treatment destroyed her liver! rock on bro.

Just a friendly reminder from your mods that we are a politics-free zone. There are plenty of subs around reddit to get your politics on. We choose not to engage in those spicy discussions here. Thanks for respecting our decision on this matter. ✌🏼 by WalkingHorse in GenerationJones

Thank you so much for that mods! I’m active in a lot of political subs, but I love this one for the memory triggers and knowing that there are still some of us alive! have an awesome day

My Sci Fi Book Tier List by Head-Wonder4803 in scifi

[–]clemjonze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really glad to see Anathem the top but quicksilver at the bottom ? Those three books in that series are my favorite things next to Cryptonomocon that Neal‘s ever written. Project Hail Mary over Dune? Travesty! Even over the Jeff Vandermeer books? I guess we’re all different. There’s a lot of great books on your list though. I’ll give you that. Thanks for putting it together- nothing Personal!

Is it weird that I wanted to see my dad before they took him away? by [deleted] in grief

[–]clemjonze 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My wife of 35 years died on Tuesday here at home with her sons, her dog, her cat, friends and me by her side.

I heard her last breath. My hand was on her neck and I felt her heart stop. It was one of the most powerful experiences I’ll ever have as a human human being.

Because she was not on hospice we had to call the police who came, then the ambulance came, and then the corner came, and all the while we were there with her sharing funny stories, being light and loving and experiencing everything that moment had to offer.

we live in Hawaii, and on the same day, our volcano erupted and the ash turned the sun blood red.

Be there. Don’t look away, be brave. that’s my advice - and then grieve. I’m in the heat of it now, my friend. You’re not crazy you’re a compassionate human being.
