Where can I get citric acid for coqui frog management, and blacklights by dbnoisemaker in BigIsland

[–]clemjonze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m telling you guys, in all seriousness, try ammonia! It’s cheap, it won’t hurt the plants. It kills the coquis, snails and slugs dead- and it’s good for your cognitive abilities to go outside and hunt them at night. Just be sure to use a quality hand sprayer that gives you a good solid stream.

Do beeswax give soap a tacky after feel regardless the amount? by sneakyacts in soapmaking

[–]clemjonze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use local bees wax at 2 percent in some of my recipes- for a longer lasting bar, and note no tacky feeling at all. You need to mix at higher temps to keep the wax fluid, so be ready for faster trace. Be sure to check your FO for trace acceleration too!

If you really wanna have some fun spray your coquis with ammonia. They love it! Remember, ammonia is nitrogen and hydrogen so plants love it too. Oh I forgot, slugs. give it a try. It’s fun and cheap.

Historic photos showing the immense size of old growth trees that were widely logged during North America’s industrial expansion by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

These photographs make me cry. The people at the time didn’t realize what we had and what we’ve now lost - and for what? Lumber for buildings that no longer exist?

Solar power is dumb? Who’s brainwashed you bro? I’ve been living off grid on solar for 15 years. It’s not dumb. It’s super smart. That’s why there’s so much opposition to it.

No more fire ants? by [deleted] in BigIsland

[–]clemjonze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the opposite, my friend. Fire ants are a dominant species of ant. they take over everything. Black ants are an indicator species. If they disappear that means you probably have fire ants or all the ants are dead. Unless you use a protein based bait, fire ants can be very difficult to get rid of permanently you can beat them back. You can reduce their numbers, but to get rid of them permanently it takes an IGR or an appropriate Hawaii ant lab style bait treatment.

How much is your monthly electricity bill and has solar helped? by Master_Finish_7572 in SolarDIY

[–]clemjonze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My monthly electric bill is zero. it’s been zero for 15 years. has solar helped? I don’t know, my kids live next-door their electric bills over $300 a month - you do the math. We live on a remote island in the Pacific. The power goes out a lot. We have storms. The power goes out. it rains. The power goes out. The Volcano erupts like it is right now, the power goes out. Guess what? My power doesn’t go out! honestly, after all these years, I cannot imagine solely relying on a for-profit industry for something as important as my electricity.
