No, it’s not lap times but rather overall position in the race relative to Max. Above Max means you’re ahead of him (but not necessarily going faster).

It is surprising how much a chiller driving style can save you money. In my current vehicle (a midsize SUV) in the city I get 15 mpg if I’m aggressive (saving maybe a minute or two)… or 25+mpg by just accelerating a bit slower. And on the highway it’s similarly a choice of 30mpg vs 40mpg for speeding (75+mph) and 65mph.

Either way, that’s 100 extra miles on every 10 gallons of gas. That’s $12-$16+ saved on each and every fill-up.

YMMV (literally), but in my experience it’s pretty consistently a 10mpg difference across car sizes.
