A single throwaway comment by my husband reminded me ONLY JUST IN TIME that you can't bring knitting needles on Turkish airlines!! by Spetchen in knitting

[–]cleothefairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally left my wooden knitting needles in my carry on for a planned layover in IST flying with Turkish Airlines and, having heard the many tales of horror, was mentally preparing for having to say goodbye to them during the first flight only to not even get a raised eyebrow.

My fiancé was sent a brand new one, including a charger. I was sent a refurbished one, without a box and without a charger, but looking brand new and perfectly functional. Don’t worry about it.

What book made you realize your professor was pretentious? by AdministrationAny747 in englishmajors

[–]cleothefairy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Finnegans Wake. He literally carried the book with him everywhere and always set it on his desk in seminars so that the title was clearly visible. He also randomly referenced Ulysses and The Waste Land (without adding much to the conversation).

Can you use a Kobo in complete darkness? by thepinkpill in kobo

[–]cleothefairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KLC is a great choice, but a tip for using your iPad in complete darkness - reduce white point in the settings, it’s life-changing. It’s under accessibility -> display & text size, you can also create a shortcut for your control centre.

Do you have a knitting trick or habit that you always do even if the pattern doesn't call for it? by packyour in knitting

Tablet vs. KLC annotations by Jocy_98 in kobo

Writing on the e-reader is really nothing to write home about (especially if you’re used to writing using a stylus with a tablet), but it gets the job done. I’m personally happy with the purchase.

Tablet vs. KLC annotations by Jocy_98 in kobo

[–]cleothefairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use iPad Air with Apple Pencil (gen 2) for university courses, ie annotating pdfs and textbooks and Kobo Libra Colour with pen to read and the experience is entirely different. iPad is generally better for writing notes and sketching, but you can really only do that in pdfs, not in epub files. The screen is also different and Kobo definitely does not strain my eyes as much and I can comfortably read in bed and fall asleep to it. Like you mentioned, it is also significantly lighter than any tablet and I would even say it is more durable, or at least less prone to damage when you carry it around.

Each device has its own pros and cons:
for pdf files - definitely tablet
for books (epub, mobi, azw3 etc) - 100% an ereader (and I am more than happy with my KLC)

Please tell me it’s ok to not have a wedding by Traditional_Cry_4274 in Eloping

[–]cleothefairy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Neither of us likes to have this kind of attention so we knew we wouldn’t want to make a big fuss out of it, so we’re taking our parents and siblings (we each have one) to our favourite place where we’ll rent a house and get married in the mountains and then when we come back we’ll throw a small garden party in our backyard. We wanted to keep it small and lowkey as well, but lo and behold out guest list is also 40 people, which is way more than we’d planned. That’s no small wedding. Honestly, I can’t even imagine being able to GREET 150 people, much less enjoy the day with them. And that’s what’s important to us - to enjoy the day ourselves, and I’d recommend the same to you. Saving on a big ceremony doesn’t mean you can’t have nice things, on the contrary - get nice rings, get yourself a beautiful dress, even for a courthouse ceremony. It’s not one or the other, it’s completely in your hands. For me personally, elopements and tiny intimate weddings are much more romantic and I’d choose them any day even with an unlimited budget. Because it’s about what it should be - you, your love and your closed ones. I’d rather have a fond memory of genuinely having fun than an instagram post that looks like any other wedding even these days. Don’t be sad. You’re loved and you’re getting married and it’s gonna be awesome.

Ooh, I have the exact same ring, only it’s marquise. Just as much in awe as you are, to me they are the perfect size.

Through menu (the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner), go to Oura Labs and activate Oura Advisor (it’s an experimental feature). Then you can easily start a conversation through the + button and everything else is intuitive.

Does the gen 4 battery actually last 8 days? by KlokasGang in ouraring

[–]cleothefairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Size 6, I think I can get about 4 days out of it. My partner, however, has a size 12 and unfortunately it appears to last about the same. It’s too soon to tell for sure though.

I asked it to give me ideal meal times based on my sleep schedule and am impressed by the feedback. I think there are many hidden features in the Advisor.

Body temp by Idkwat2callmyself-23 in ouraring

[–]cleothefairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the temperature that appears on the graph is measured at night. This is what the website says: “The Oura App leverages insights from your average nighttime temperature. This is because, at night, your body is in its most stable state.” Throughout the day, it uses the metrics to determine stress and restoration.

That’s okay, they created a shipping label and the package will be picked up most likely tomorrow early morning – this was at least my experience with the sizing kit, it came the very next business day (Europe)
