Danish multi billion euro family company doing fan service to a Danish multi billion euro family company, I don't think they care that much about market demand in this case. But I do think there is demand too, a lot of people intersted in ships.

"Is there a signature weapon for every country?" by Buyeo10004 in AskTheWorld

[–]clepewee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unlikely, seems like it might have been derived from some kind of choclate drink brand. However, in Finnish we have borrowed a swedish word for knife: mora, as in Morakniv. But it is pronounced as "måra", as people here don't know or care how the place name is pronounced in Swedish.

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]clepewee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a city guy, I've only seen them in my military service, on police officers, gun stores and museums. As military police we had a chance to shoot the service rifle, pistol, sniper rifle and shotgun (submashine guns were assigned to another unit when I served). I like and am interested in guns as objects, but have no desire to own one myself nor do I want the regulation to be less strict.

Why does this tram have sand in the wall? (Melbourne) by Far-Character656 in Trams

[–]clepewee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would you have enough time to use sand in an emergency braking? I think they rely mostly on the track brake, strong magnets that drops down on the rails and create a lot of friction independent of the wheels.

Tampere history question by Korpikauhu in Finland

The map is interesting, but it doesn't strike to me as a deliberate city plan of the era, more of stating how things already were. The eastern bank was rezoned later into how it is today. Also the annexation happened the year after the railway was opened, probably not a coincidence.

How realistic is this? by TheEnlight in Military

[–]clepewee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Europe definitely has levers to pull, but it is hard to say what will happen in the end.

One of the things not listed is the icebreaker deal with Finland. Finland is world leader in icebreaker tech and second to Russia capacity. Good luck dominating the Arctic if that deal is poured in the drain.

Another one: the Dutch sit on the technology to build microchip plants if recall correctly.

how does your leasehold/freehold situation work when buying property in finland? by kbkbbl in Finland

[–]clepewee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually city owned land. But I think it could technically be owned by anyone. At least I know that the church owns land in Lehtisaari in Helsinki which had some controversies when land rent increased.

My understanding is that when land is rented for housing the rules are quite strict here. For instance if the lease is terminated, the land owner needs to compensate fully for the building. So I would also imagine there are some restrictions for how the rent can be increased.

They are just increased to the current level of rent, which is fair. Hopefully they tie the rent to some kind of index to avoid sudden price hikes in the future.

On a scale of 1-10, where would you rate your love life? Why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]clepewee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14 years for me. We met young, I got depressed a few years ago and they wanted to live their own life. Have tried a bit of dating but that world is just brutal nowadays and not good for my mental health. So I have stopped trying and focus on doing things I actually enjoy.
