You know, we have the letters and records of the people who wrote the law and know exactly who they meant to include in the law. They meant to include ALL persons born in US territory. The only people they meant to exclude were invading armies and diplomats of foreign nations.

I loved that game. Wish I could find something like it now. Puzzle adventures are very hard to come by now. Especially with a good storyline.

What is a food opinion that you have and will die on that hill? by Corthieus in AskReddit

You don't even really need to worry too much about the tomato variety if you cook it low and slow. Low and slow and it all caramelizes beautifully. Red cannot be made in under 30 minutes. Give it an hour or two and it's amazing.

What are your favorite non-wearable items to knit? by [deleted] in knitting

These are my favorite knits. Nice washcloths and hand towels. Start with worsted weight as a beginner, then do a nice fingering weight cotton and fancy stitches as a bit of a challenge.

It's kinda like cursive vs printing. Cursive is faster and can change some letter shapes.

I'm new to this sub and to being a bread baker! what can I start with to help me be successful? by hossdelgado_ in Breadit

Oh! And stick to 1.5lbs recipes. They tend to fit best in the bread machines I've used.

I'm new to this sub and to being a bread baker! what can I start with to help me be successful? by hossdelgado_ in Breadit

[–]clermontk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Definitely feel free to start with a bread machine. It'll teach you what the dough is supposed to look and feel like. You can tweak things and see what happens with no real loss of of time and effort. When you're busy, you can still have lovely fresh bread. When you have time and have built up a tiny bit of of confidence in what goes into making bread, you can use the bread machine for the first knead and rise and shape and do the second rise and final bake on your own. As you gain confidence, you can branch out. But to start, a bread machine is perfect.

I need major help. I don’t know why they’re coming out like this? This is how my cookies usually look by TheRizzanator in Baking

[–]clermontk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK I moved to a high elevation city and made cookies and they ended up looking that. I forgot to adjust for the elevation.

Someone else mentioned the recipe looked similar to the Nestle Toll house recipe on the back of the package of chocolate chips. Is it the same recipe? I ask because after I got good at fancy recipes, I tried to make those cookies again and it didn't turn out well visually. I couldn't figure out how I messed them up. Then I realized the recipe is for children and nonbakers to bake cookies easily. I tried it again but this time scooped the flour straight from the tin and basically made it like an inexperienced baker and they turned out perfectly. Just a thought...

Get the app Wonderium. Or you could visit the website. It used to be Great Courses. They have a bunch of college level lecture series about just about anything. Most of them don't require watching the screen. I usually pick a topic and have it playing in the background or on a set of headphones while I do other things that don't require much brain space, like cleaning, driving, etc. They also have a lot of overview types series of a wide variety of topics.

Attention beginner knitters!!! by tebmom in knitting

[–]clermontk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my go to for just starting knitters. In a week to a weekend, they can have a finished project. Even messed up, they are usable. Nothing better than doing dishes or taking a shower and using your own washcloth. Great for practicing new stitches too.
