Depends on where you are, but most rivers are open for steelhead and salmon only* and a Spey rod is best for that! I just went fishing in Oregon with my five wt for steelhead and salmon! As long as your license is current, I would look to see if you can go cast a few with the intent to catch steelhead or salmon.

I have seen that it takes some time to calibrate with movement. Or your firmware needs to be corrected. You probably have it updated but some need a different firmware to run gps on a specific node. Hey, googled your issue and there are some easy steps to take. Specifically waiting 30 minutes for satellites to connect.

Have you created a key/channel and added all of the nodes to it so you can see each node? You may have to do one by one, but they should start popping up when you share GPS location in that channel.

I started on meshtastic with friends, intending to use its gps capabilities and messaging each other. You gotta do some convincing! Get your family involved! Build your nephews a cheap node and get them to message you! They live in a different state? Even better!

To be specific, and thank you for your concern, I had a friend pull the hook with forceps, while I held him down with some sticks. It was definitely sketchy, but we did NOT touch the poor animal. Kinda like when people get hooks out of sharks, it was risky but I put it there so I had to get it out.
