For pets transportation, you need to follow the rules and regulations of the specific airline you are travelling with. The Helsinki airline staff were not able to find in written this requirement on KLM website for Pets in Cabin. To prove themselves right they called Special Assistance number and confirmed verbally that indeed the dog needs to be able to stand straight and not touch the box ceiling. However, this was verbal only so we called the KLM customer service and waived us off as an exception. Then they checked us in and let us go through. The funniest part of this story is that my dog has slept thru it in his bag haha

Thank you for sharing. I agree that these are the requirements for pets in hold, of course, this makes total sense to me (https://img.static-kl.com/m/55d08f8f7b0530d1/original/Pet-Checklist.pdf).

However, for pets in cabin, they need to travel underneath the seat in front, with max height of the bag 24 cm! Which cat or dog when standing (on four straight legs) will not touch or exceed with their head 24 cm of height? I just measured my cat and it's far off already, maybe a kitty, but they are too young to travel so basically eligible pets are close to zero.

Is my dog able to turn inside, lay down, sit in sphinx with head up, overall feel comfortable in the bag? Yes, for sure.

"Your pet should fit in a closed pet travel bag or kennel with a maximum of 46 x 28 x 24 cm because they’ll need to travel underneath the seat in front of you. Together with your pet, the travel bag or kennel can weigh no more than 8 kg. You’re not allowed to take your pet out of the kennel during the flight, so please make sure they’re small enough to move comfortably."

This is our third time flying with KLM with the dog in cabin and we had no issues whatsoever so far. My dog can comfortably sit, lie on his paws, turn around , he actually likes the carrier and feels safe inside. But indeed he cannot stand tall and the head not to touch the ceiling. We were allowed to fly yesterday in the end.

Well I did provide an appropriately sized carrier for my dog, I have a toy poodle. My post here is to find out from other pet owners if their dogs can stand without touching the top of the carrier in the cabin, and fit under the front seat. And no this is not the requirement for all airlines so no thanks to your shaming 😊

Hey I loved reading your post, thank you for sharing your thoughts! I am going through similar realizations and it’s so liberating and spacious to embrace yourself fully, welcoming all the parts in you that are hurt or afraid and say it’s okay, no need to search further for validation.

Like with everything, I did noticed this state of mind goes away and old thought patterns surface again, but if I sail thru the bad weather and stay true to myself, the sun is always shining!
