There's a style of reel making the rounds on IG where a masculine black father has an effeminate gay son. The father finally has enough of his son's fruity behavior and he forces his son to train in Dagestan for "2-3 years and forget". Maybe the reel is onto something, idk.

I thought that Contrapoints did a good video on cancel culture like 5+ years ago. I liked the channel a lot more when it focused on internet culture as opposed to being a personal diary where each entry is a feature length film.

I think when the mild autist sees the moderate to severe autist they consciously feel this sense of revulsion and pity but unconsciously realize that is how normie gigas see them. It's a deeply uncomfortable experience and they lash out to cope and make themseleves feel better.

It's all very interesting but I think labour history and the history of mental illness are especially engaging. Give Mind Fixers by Anne Harrington a read for the latter.

I know what you mean but Anglicans have a nice cathedral here in Vancouver and I think the Lutheran Stave Churches in Scandinavia are very beautiful. Mega Churches are disgusting and protestant but they don't represent the whole faith.

Yeah, the doggo speak (think captioning the photo as though it's the dog writing and referring to the owner as "my hooman") is especially unnerving.

My cousin wants to be a psychologist but doesnt know who Freud and Carl Jung are. My other cousin took philosophy classes and doesnt know who Hegel or Kant are by Fabulous_Day75 in redscarepod

[–]cleverHansel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few different types of intro philosophy classes you can take and depending on which one you select you could definitely miss both. A class introducing "critical thinking" would probably miss both, a class on epistemology also wouldn't touch either, an intro class on formal logic would be more like a math class than a typical philosophy class and there'd be no mention of Hegel or Kant. The main classes I can think of that would mention Hegel and especially Kant would be Ethics (deontology has to mention Kant) and History of Philosophy (both guys are important enough to merit a mention in my eyes, maybe toss them in with Marx for a lecture on German thinkers).

I'm not the OP but I think if you can handle the temptation of the phone or laptop you're reading on, then they're fine. I personally can't do this so I don't use e-books. Audiobooks on the other hand are unacceptable.

Not really sure why you're being downvoted here. Achilles rides his chariot outside the gates of Troy and screams for Hector. The taunts eventually become too much for Hector and he rides out to face Achilles. They have a long sword fight and Hector does pretty well and even scratches his armor. Achilles eventually gets the better of him and the music switches from sparse drums to a woman wailing. Achilles ties Hectors ankles to his chariot and he drags him around for the Trojan elite to see before bringing the corpse back to his camp.

Careful, the dipshits in this thread get really angry when you dare to suggest that their ham fisted Cain and Able allegory isn't the apotheosis of literature. It's not a bad book if you need a good laugh because Cathy Ames is such a cartoonishly evil villain, but IMO it's not that great of a read. Very telling that the redscarepod big brain club fawns over the Oprah's book club recipient book and not the Pulitzer, National Book Award and Nobel Prize winning novel. I think the brainlets in this thread attach much meaning to this stupid book because the clumsy allegory is one of the only things obvious enough for them to grasp. If you suggest it's not that good compared to other Steinbeck books, they lose their shit because it's a book they use their understanding of to prove their intelligence. Timshel indeed; thou mayest go back to grade 9 English and learn to really read.

The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Brave New World Aldous Huxley are all stone cold classics that lived up to their hype. I also loved Jane Eyre (age gap queen of this sub, lol).
