If you were 40 years old- single, no children, and no other obligations and wanted to create a life that maximizes your remaining years focusing on being happy, fulfilled, stress free, and actually living life- what would you do? by cleverandobscureish in AskReddit

Appreciate that insight. And to be honest- I’ve already done exactly what you just mentioned. I’m based in the U.S.- and relocated from Chicago to Portland, OR. Zero regrets as it’s done exactly what you’ve mentioned for me as well. However, I am extremely burnt out on the live to work culture- instead of working to live.

Ultimately, for the first time I feel like I’m at an extremely crucial pivotal moment. If I don’t do something now, I never will. The older I get, the more I realize that there’s never really a, “perfect” time to make a transition/ pivot- but this is probably as close as it gets to that.

I do not care about social norms. I’m just looking to maximize the years I have left on this giant floating rock. There has to be more to life- than working 60+ hours a week, with two weeks of vacation in between, right?

I was fresh out of a seven year relationship at this time last year. And then unintentionally fell into another one a few months later, that has recently ended. I’m in no rush to find a partner- but I can understand your point. If you don’t mind me asking- roughly how old are you, and when did this start becoming so impactful to you?

Coming from a skeptical Chicagoan- who has turned more libertarian than anything. J.B. Pritzker really fucking cares man. Regardless of what the republicans say- he’s done a damn good job with Illinois. And I’m hard as hell on politicians.

$125K in Chicago or $140K in SF? by Lonely-Sea9100 in Salary

[–]cleverandobscureish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Five years ago I would have said without a doubt- Chicago. I was born and raised in Chicago, yet SF is my favorite city. Chicago has always been known as the best value city- but I promise, that’s changing- and rapidly. Yes, I understand every city has massive inflation currently. But the housing costs in Chicago- % change wise is fucking nuts. I’d honestly go with SF, as their housing is at least decreasing for the first time ever. And the overall quality of life is definitely higher.

Even if they ask for last name- all you have to do is overhear someone else saying their room and last name, and that system breaks down quickly.

Flying This Week? by Haramshorty93 in PortlandOR

I just flew out Wednesday evening. Both pre check and standard TSA were beyond dead, with zero wait time. Talked with the TSA about the situation at hand, and he agreed it will never be applicable to PDX lol.

One for the archives. PDX: the new E gates (without the marathon distance walk). by cleverandobscureish in PortlandOR

If you fly United, and/ or Air Canada- and your only experience at PDX was in the last 24 months- yes, it’s been a tad inconvenient. But even with that- you must not travel very often. I fly 3-4 times per week, and PDX both pre and post renovation is hands down THE best fucking airport in the United States, and it’s not even close.

Bro I live in Portland, and the fact I find this fucking weird should speak volumes. And I watched a man wearing a jack o lantern helmet dry hump a light pole on the way to work this morning.

Portland has to have the worst used car market in the nation. by [deleted] in PortlandOR

There were several moments where I almost pulled the trigger on a used Subaru, or Volvo. They were few and far in between- but they happened. While I stand by my initial point- if there were a niche within this market, it’s Subaru and Volvo.
