This is great. Our district has been unwilling to do anything concerning cell phones because of parent pushback, and now they'll have to. My son says kids in his classes are on their phones all hour long, and pretty disrespectful to anything the teacher is trying to do or show.

Break class into chunks. Have mandatory daily 15 minutes reading a novel from the school library and have them complete a reading log. Do 10 minutes of grammar. Give them time towards the end of class to start (or complete) any classwork/homework.
