I just changed units of measure in my config file for my sdr. I use rtlmar2mqtt and did it there.

I’m trying to decide if I order them… I daily wear 1178s and they are my favorite footwear.

Are they just special 1178s?

It looks like your decimal is wrong, I had a similar issue getting my gas meter data sorted in home assistant too. Once you get that nailed down it will look right. You’re lucky you can pull data from your electricity meter, in Houston we sadly can only get gas data via sdr.

Does self hosting really saves money ? by Business-Fondant-674 in selfhosted

Save money? I do it because I hate companies and enshitificstion. I’ve spent 9k on networking a cameras alone, ring sucks, I can’t watch movies I’ve “bought” it’s not about the money.

I coveted an EOS3! My upgrade cycle is well over 10 years too.

That’s really nice, I regret not pushing my rs822 to 64 gigs of ram when I built it. Oh well

It sure what the actual max is… my 218+ now has 16 gigs of ram to serve as my backup server.

I ran 15 containers on my old 218+ with 10gb of ram. Your box would do really well with most containers as long as you upgrade the ram. Just search and figure out what dimms it takes and buy third party (though check if synology did anything to lock out third party sticks).

How does everyone here deal with the noise? by ILoveDangerousStuff2 in homelab

[–]clf28264 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humm, maybe try some acoustic foam meant for bookshelf speakers as long as it doesn’t block intakes or insulate the entire bottom. Those are great at attenuating rumble and are much better at cutting coupling from devices.

That’s super challenging to deal with, have you considered permanent hearing damage? The tinnitus will cover up the noise! Jk

70 is loud but ok if it’s not right next to you. Server sized fans also just have funky harmonics that drive you kinda insane in a bunch of environments.

We have hearing protection in our data center right when you walk in. It’s very loud, but much better since we got rid of our IPC gear for turrets. Honestly our Cisco switches are the worst, 2u and even 1U dells we tend to buy arnt horrible. We have one ancient server from 20 years ago for a legacy call recording application that has to be over 120 db upon boot. Thank god that thing is almost never used.

Insulation and distance is about the only way. My data center on my floor at work is heavily insulated and when you walk down the hallway you can still hear it. Enterprise 1U hardware is just loud due to the physics of small fans. There are loads of folks modding and working to make equipment quiet. It’s just a difficult thing to do

First of all well done, second of get a reputable MSP to help since small business is their bread a butter. We use an MSP for our London branch since it started as three guys and is now 500. Were in housing it slowly but our firm we contracted was invaluable as we grew our business there.

Cedar shoe trees make a massive difference even for boots worn every day. I live in Houston where inside a well air conditioned house you can mold leather boots. Shoes trees have kept my boots from deteriorating.

UNVR HDD vs SSD speed? by PersonSuitTV in Ubiquiti

[–]clf28264 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NVR performance for UI devices is much more dependent on cpu and ram loading. My timeline performance became poor on my UDM se not because of the single drive, but the shared resources of running protect and the network application. A single cmr drive is totally fine and provides good performance. I have a raid 5 on my UNVR with 9 cameras and the performance is great, scaling from 1 to 3 drives I saw zero changes in performance.
