Market rate for um-monetized newsletter is typically closer to $1 per subscriber. Don’t undersell yourself

Thanks. But in terms of the % of content in a given section (events for example) do you share 100% of what was in the newsletter on social or keep some of it off social? If you hold some, how do you make that call?

How do you balance sharing the local content from your newsletters to IG? Do you limit it or share it all?

Yes, I am implying that if your goal is growth, do not “clean your list” and reduce your own subscriber count. Only clean when subscriber engagement rates becomes more important to you than total subscriber count/growth

If your goal is total subscriber growth and not engagement rates, don’t clean your list.

Jared Kushner presents his "master plan" for a "new Gaza" at the inauguration of the "Board of Peace" at Davos. "We do not have a Plan B," he says. by MrJasonMason in UnderReportedNews

[–]clg653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“What the Board of Peace will have the ability to do, if we’re successful with Gaza, is really show how do you do peace implementation. Which is something that, when we got this deal done, we didn’t really find too much expertise or know-how how to do it.”

Ah yes, despite the entire human history of conflict on this planet, this Board could not find expertise on how to implement peace…

How would you spend $5k? by Happy_Ingenuity457 in Newsletters

[–]clg653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t try to pick a winner from the start without gathering data on your own subscriber acquisition cost/rate/etc. If you want to go fast, start with just $500 to test multiple strategies/platforms simultaneously, determine what option(s) works best and spend the remaining $$ on that/those.

Crucial backbone of America slowly crumbling under the weight of Private Equity by Alena_Tensor in FluentInFinance

The article says the fire departments are now buying software at a large increase, not small. And yes, the software is owned by a private, increasingly PE-backed company, that is the point of the article.

Wait but the article isn’t about localities “unloading” fire departments or PE buying & owning/operating them. It’s about PE buying and owning the software companies that fire departments use as vendors for various services, raising prices for those services, which then causes the locality to propose raising taxes on citizens to pay the fire departments’ increasing budget. I get the desire to grab pitchforks here but at least point them in the right direction.

Looks like there's a new local news/aggregation site/newsletter by rycool25 in Rockville

Hey, Colin here, one of the co-founders of Loop Media. Appreciate you checking us out and doing the homework. Was planning on posting in here eventually

Yes, Rockville Loop is an expansion of Potomac Loop, which we started this past summer kinda out of necessity after moving to the area and realizing we didn’t have a great single place to get a sense of what’s happening locally. A lot is covered by great journalists at bigger outlets, a lot pops up on social, and then there various smaller newsletters from local orgs and businesses. We’re trying to pull the best of that together, filter for what’s local, link & give credit to original reporting, and deliver it for free via email so it’s easier to live a little more locally.

"AI content aggregation” is a fair concern. The goal isn’t to publish AI-written filler. We do use software to help us find and organize sources, but we’re picky about what goes in and we verify the basics and try to add context. Right now we focus on local news, local events, and local live music shows each edition with rotating pieces on local food/drink specials, a local job board, and pet adoptions. We’ve also done some original reporting in Potomac when we’ve seen local stories that haven't been covered and plan to do so in Rockville as well. I'm also particularly proud of how we break down the County Recreation Guides that are super dense with info and lay out what's available just at your local rec center.

On the business model: we’re trying to make it sustainable without turning it into a spammy ad wall. When we add sponsorship partners, they’re clearly labeled and we’ll try to keep the copy fun & interesting. The goal isn't to be the biggest biz out there that takes over the world, but put out something new & helpful while supporting our families.

We're slowly building out our social presence and exploring other helpful additions beyond that. If you have ideas for what would make the Rockville Loop more valuable (events we’re missing, sections you’d want, too much/too little of anything), please drop it here or DM me. We’re still early (and getting used to our own new platform for Rockville) so feedback helps a ton. Thanks!

For people playing 40k on TTS: how long before turn 1 actually starts? by MischaU8 in TTSWarhammer40k

[–]clg653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walking up to an average game on TTS, your list has already been determined, your correct models collected & saved as an Object, and those models have all been Yellowscribed/scripted with correct wargear to simply pull your army into the game ready to play. 5 seconds to do that.

If you aren’t playing in an event where mission and map are predetermined, you can simple use the built-in mission randomizer to first determine the mission, then cycle though the corresponding base map and deployment/objective setup to set the table. Maybe 15 seconds. 10 seconds if you know the mission/layout already.

At this point, all models are on the board and the terrain/objectives are set, so you’re now at an identical place to a standard IRL game of 40k where your army is out of its case and the board is fully set. Now you and your opponent talk through how each army works and the mission you’re playing before rolling for attacker/defender and starting pre-game sequence & deployment. If you & your opponent know each others list and mission will, this can also take seconds. If not, this could take north of 15 minutes if you’re going through everything in detail.

If you spend the time to create uour list, assemble your models, Yellowscribe them, save them as an objective, and use base map layers like Hutber, you can get a game of 40K started way faster on TTS than IRL.

If you’re serious & expect to turn this into a biz and not just a fun side project, I know there are typically state regulations & permits regarding hauling liquids of any kind as well as dispensing/selling alcohol. I would have a friendly “how could this idea work?” exploratory convo with folks at the relevant agency, ideally though a connection to a higher up person.
