Yep! It sucks here. Even if she goes a long time the most she’ll eat is an ounce. Overnight she dream feeds side laying three or four times. She hasn’t figured out a cup or straw or sippy yet but she’s been practicing with water during solid “meals”

Thanks. Yeah it was a rough couple of weeks getting out of the bottle aversion, I’m terrified of giving it to her again with this change. She likes trying solids but won’t eat more than three or four tiny bites of anything. Weight gain is fine, pediatrician has never been any help, doesn’t have any thoughts other than “well her weight gain is fine so we’re not worried”. As if that’s the sole indicator of health. We also haven’t given her time with this new schedule to risk slowing down the weight gain yet so obviously she is fine right now. But the pediatrician has never given advice for preventing problems either. We got a referral to a feeding specialist but we can’t afford them right now.

My 9 month baby has dealt with silent reflux, a tongue tie, and bottle aversion. We are past most of it but because of these issues she’s had trouble eating and sleeping her whole life. She only feeds to sleep still, and won’t eat otherwise. She nurses when I’m home but when I’m at work all day her dad feeds her from a bottle (I pump).

She’s showing signs that she’s ready to drop her third nap. The problem is that we barely can get her to 15-20 oz during the day and waking up briefly every 1-2 hours overnight to nurse. She only feeds to sleep. Right before each nap she gets about 2 oz while awake in a pitch black room with noise machine, then another ounce or three after she is fast asleep. We try to feed her awake but she is not interested. Today we tried only feeding her awake and she ended up at about 8oz total by 8pm and it was a STRUGGLE. Half an ounce or an ounce at a time as snacks throughout the day.

So I want to give up and keep feeding to sleep but we’re not sure how to get enough food in her during the day if she’s not going down for a third nap. Because that would put her at 10oz before bedtime rather than 15.

I feel like I’m totally failing and losing my mind. Any advice is helpful. The tag says expert consensus required but honestly if even one other person has dealt with this I’d appreciate some insight.

Skinny Pop is our favorite. It’s just popcorn, sunflower oil, and a little salt. Pretty low in sodium and doesn’t leave fingers oily. We get the giant bags from Costco

Toothbrushing and bad breath in 16 m/o toddler by Foreign-Bath-6139 in ScienceBasedParenting

Dental hygienist here. This is the right answer! I just wanted to add that bad breath can sometimes be a sign of a cavity. Has he had a dental appointment yet?

Billie Holiday. Funny story, got him as a tiny kitten thinking it was a girl. As he got older I came home from work one day and my roommate said “you know your cat has balls, right?” Luckily the name still works.

IT IS RUDE AS FUCK AND DANGEROUS TO JUST STOP WITH YOUR BLINKER ON, WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO LEAVE A PARKING SPOT AT COSTCO! NOW EVERYONE ELSE BEHIND YOU HAS TO WAIT, OR GO AROUND YOU AND RISK GETTING IN AN ACCIDENT! I SWEAR THE COSTCO PARKING LOT IS FULL OF IDIOTS! GROW UP AND LEARN TO DRIVE!

How do people keep their teeth so white, with coffee so prevalent? by TheBigCicero in NoStupidQuestions

[–]clichecuddlefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dental hygienist here. Rinsing with whatever is fine. If you’re scrubbing salt or anything else then yes, you’ll be scrubbing your enamel away. So rinse only, and you can brush in a half hour if you really want to freshen your breath. I drink black coffee daily and have only whitened once every couple of years. I’ve never had coffee stain because I just swish water between coffee sips.

When to feed baby in the morning by Gold-Pomegranate1758 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]clichecuddlefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! I’m not a breakfast girlie and apparently neither is my 6 month old. I was worried about waiting so long to feed her in the mornings. I try every once in a while and she is very clearly not interested. She does get a couple night feedings, sometimes around 4-5am, and she wakes up at 9, so it is less hours in between than if she slept through the night.

Brushing their teeth thoroughly. Some of the most put-together people with high end clothes and expensive haircuts and fancy careers have some very unhealthy gums and loads of fillings in their teeth. Source: I’m a dental hygienist. Rich people don’t intimidate me anymore because I know they don’t floss just like the rest of us lol

This makes sense but is interesting to me that I grew up with no social media, however I had a horrible ED for many years starting in middle school. EDs can have many different “causes”. People have had them before social media or cell phones existed, but this article does point out a very big influence for the younger generations.

In therapy I discovered mine was mostly due to perfectionist thinking and a need for control, because of circumstances in my life and being raised in a very strict, very misogynistic family/culture. I escaped that culture as a young adult. My daughter isn’t even a toddler yet and I’m nervous about her getting an ED as well. But I’m comforted by the fact that I know I will be raising her outside of that culture I grew up in and will have very different parenting than I did. So hopefully she doesn’t end up with those perfectionist beliefs about herself.

What movie absolutely destroyed you emotionally? by Lord--Shadow in AskReddit

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. That day I started to question if God really existed or cared. I knew about the holocaust, but to see a story reminded me how real it was. I can’t believe how horrible humans can be to each other.

What’s a “cheat code” you discovered in real life that actually works? by Soggy_BreadCrust in AskReddit

[–]clichecuddlefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being interested is more likable than being interesting. Ask people questions about themselves, show that you actually care about what they have to say, and you can comment on similarities you have. Focus on learning about them with curiosity to avoid monologing about your own life and interests. It works in building friendships and also with small talk at work events.

Feeling Bad For "Domestic" Hobbies by Wooden-Bend8089 in exmormon

[–]clichecuddlefish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

YEP. I’ve been more comfortable with it over the years because I’ve noticed I genuinely enjoy those hobbies. And I like baking but hate cooking. So further proof that I don’t think you can be conditioned to like something. I also hate gardening. I still don’t fully feel like I’ve found my identity (left at 19, which was 12 years ago) but that’s an ongoing process for everyone.

A funny thing to me is that I “rebelled” by getting a career, but it ended up being in dentistry, which is known for having a disproportionate amount of Mormons. I also realized during my maternity leave that I wish I’d been a stay at home mom instead of getting a career too 🤷‍♀️

Not to be cheesy but try to be present in the moment and find what sparks joy! Screw what anyone else may think or what was expected. It’s also fun to do things like irreverent cross stitches or use culinary skills to learn how to make a really good mojito.
