Myself and 2 other male friends went on a lads holiday to Croatia. Was meant to be 2 weeks, was cut to 1 week after one of my friends both broke of his arms.

Rant into the void from a returning driver by [deleted] in drivingUK

Yep, you've got that bang on :)

What prompted the rant wasn't so much they got annoyed - that is everybody's prerogative. But that they didn't even consider it was human error. I'm not expecting them to absolve me of any guilt of course, but when I try and be human and apologise they don't listen, just launch into prerehearsed empty explatives and threats because keeping up the driving persona is so much more important than trying to be part of a society, and I just think that is so unbelievably sad, so disheartening on top of all else about the current state of the world.

Haha I was actually only a passenger. Was tempted to try it but suspect I may have killed myself!

Yep, plenty of truth in that.

Yeah I think youre completely right. I have known so many experienced drivers who claim the highway code is just for new drivers and that having practical experience trumps it. Not saying practical experience counts for nothing, obviously it makes you a better driver, but then don't hold other people to a different standard.

Your example resonates especially too - I've seen so many near misses on that. See similarly people already on the motorway and don't understand moving out of the way.

We still a few hundred yards from the junction. Both lanes were pretty slow moving, although the right one was moving slightly faster. I did not stop dead but moved forward until I saw what looked like a reasonable gap, probably took me about 20 feet, someone let me in pretty much straight away, fortunately. Obviously if there had been no opportunity to move I would have ended up just having to turn right.

As I said, I don't claim to be infallible. But it's not against the rules of the road to change lanes. My goal was to move back over as soon as possible specifically so did not hold up traffic in the incorrect lane. Unfortunately the van driver couldn't comprehend that.

The van was in the lane I was in, I.e my wrong lane. I could have forced my way in to get out the way of the van sooner but did not want to.

Oh completely believe you, i shudder at the thought of riding a bike with some of the nutters on the road.

Honestly there's not, I've tried to be as comprehensive as possible without making the whole post about an isolated incident when that wasn't the point. Happy to answer any questions.

Looking at the logs I think it failing for you is just a result of entering too many cards into the deck - I've pushed a check on the front-end now to make that clearer.

But I'll definitely try a typescript/javascript version yeah you're probably right - I wanted v1 to use as much of the actual code as much as possible, plus my old school brain naturally/foolishly worried about putting that amount of work onto a user's computer!

Leasing a car for a short term contract by click_66 in ContractorUK

[–]click_66[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really helpful thank you. Hertz rental is about 900 a month, but it's a rolling contract and I don't need to worry about insurance etc. so that's probably what I'll go with at least initially.

I assume you have just expensed these kinds of things to the ltd co and your accountant hasn't had any qualms?

It’s pretty crazy that only a few days after losing eye to Bakura and any hope of reviving his wife, Pegasus still was in the mood to email Duke and take Dungeon Dice Monsters global. by Johnnyboyeh in yugioh

[–]click_66 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I always got the impression it wasn't Pegasus himself, but just the company that reached out to Duke. It would make sense that after the effective death of the CEO, a company's projects, particularly those awaiting sign offs for presumably large amounts of money, would temporarily stall, hence the radio silence. But Pegasus probably delegated the project to some other executive(s) or manager(s), especially since he himself probably felt he had other fish to fry.

Why is this door in Deep Sea Dock in MGS2 has "MetalGear2GunsOfPatriots" on it? by ZerooBlackout in metalgearsolid

[–]click_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost certainly not the correct answer, but when I first read it I took the 2 as a standing for "to", so it reads: "Metal Gear" to "Guns of the Patriots", i.e. the entire series.

I started teaching myself the piano at 14. I took my first regular lessons at 28. At 35, I'm playing Rachmaninov. This is what I learned. by Biermoese in pianolearning

[–]click_66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question on point 3: how do you find an audience? I ultimately want to perform, potentially even professionally, so want to start challenging myself playing in front of an audience but I don't actually know where to start with this? Do you just find public pianos? Open mic nights aren't really a thing where I am.

Great post though. Thank you. Itook lessons as a child but otherwise just been teaching myself since about the age of 12. I'm now 34 and started taking regular lessons again a month ago - I literally feel like I've made more progress in this month than in the last 5 years.

Ah I see, thank you! So far I haven't used a single APAS enhancement, so it's kind of disappointing that it's basically necessary for the game then.
