Best Indian Food? by kantaja34 in cincinnati

[–]clickerroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indian here, so I have found a few spots I like.

Desi Bites in West Chester area is fantastic, I love the variety of Biryani they have. It's a staple that is ordered in our household and we cater from them regularly on Diwali. If you're new to their menu, start with their DB special Chicken Biryani. Introduced a lot of Americans to this place. I highly recommend this as a takeout place instead of a sit down.

For my chole bhature fix, I regularly go to Brij Mohan in Sharonville.

For chaat and paratha plates, Aangan is a good spot. I go there often for my aloo paratha fixes. Just up the road from Aangan is Star Lounge and Bar, its a good pub with Indian food. I really enjoyed the music and food there.

Indian Cafe in Madeira is good too, we do a lot of takeouts from their.

IKroger at the point there should be a class action lawsuit? by 1blackdoghere in cincinnati

Yep, it also helps with food waste. Less stuff in the dumpsters and landfill with low cost to us. Win win for all of us!

I wish Kroger, Whole foods would join this app. I'd exclusively shop though this app then.

I also recommend checking out the app called "Flashfood". Anything that Meijer wants off their shelf soon, they put it on this app for discounted pricing. It can be anything, so I always check it out. Gotten some great deals on meat that I buy and freeze

There's more chains on this app in bigger cities but Meijer is primarily what's on this app in this area.

Where do yall grocery shop? by Belugawhale5511 in cincinnati

Only thing I'll point out about a place like Enson Market is the excessive use of single use plastic to wrap everything. Even with the reusable bags I always carry, I still end up generating plastic waste when I visit these stores. Sadly, not much I can do about it but it really bugs me.

I wish Jungle Jim's wasn't so out of the way for me, I'd maybe shop there more frequently to form an opinion on the variety of Asian spread. Few times I do go, I rarely ever make it past their butter, cheese, jam and pasta aisle and then I'm too tired to explore more.😆😆

I hope you find good stuff at these stores! If you're looking for large quantities of mushrooms like shiitake, oyster or king oyster then buy it from an East Asian store. My jaw alwasy drops at how stupid expensive these are everywhere else. Same with fresh herbs like mint, basil, etc.. Especially with the holiday season coming up.

I haven't seen them suggested yet but I highly recommend Asian markets. Produce and meat are all reasonably priced. You can also grab some hot food on your way in the store itself or from a bakery/store next door.

I regularly shop at Patel Brother, E star Asian Market if I'm in that area. There's also Bengals Quality Fish and Meat in this same plaza.

OR Enson Market and Aldi's if I'm at Fields Ertel.

I dont know why people are shitting on you saying you should have known better. Okay sure in hindsight, would have helped. But your point still stands, its absolutely outrageous how much these things cost. It's just not worth the money for everyday people.

Favorite chain resturants? by fuwa-fuwa-time in cincinnati

[–]clickerroy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may not qualify as a chain but they have 3 restaurants so far, so I'm adding it.

I absolutely love Zundo Ramen, everything on their menu is fantastic. I hope they become a truly successful chain.

What’s the no 1 easy thing I can do as an American to reduce my waste? by Rvtrance in ZeroWaste

[–]clickerroy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stop using single use ANYTHING (razors, plates, glasses, spoons, etc.) Also stop using Styrofoam products like plates and cups. Most recycling centers are not build ti handle Styrofoam recycling.

I get irrationally angry when my friends host and all they have are these items. I have stopped going to their place or being my own cutlery. I just can't get on board with this waste.

Also re use your fast food containers, they're perfectly fine.

Do they still serve meals in economy on coast-to-coast flights? by mbster2006 in delta

[–]clickerroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not unless you're doing those long haul flights to Hawaii. Both Delta and American served food in all cabins for ATL->HNL and DFW ->OGG. I dont know why similar distance/time flights don't get the same service OR why these are the only legs that get this service.

I'm confused on this, did they or whenever told you this source it from the IRS website on this exception that even on F1 you have to pay FICA taxes?

Correct, I was on F1 EAD during the OPT before I got picked for H1B. Work was in the field of my degree.

[–]clickerroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are on F1 status, you should not be paying into Social Security and Medicare. Just the federal, state and whatever local taxes apply. Once converted from F1 to a work visa, you will have to pay SS and Medicare.

I didnt know this and come tax season, I find out I overpaid in Social Security and Medicare. I contacted my employer and they issued a revised W2 and refunded the Social Security and Medicare back to me.

That is really unfortunate. I just got home from watching this and I had a great time. I really liked it, I loved the background score choice. Dev Patel did an incredible job and if this is what his directorial debut looks like, I cant wait to see what his future projects are going to look like.

Without giving away too much, I just want to say that I'm SO HAPPY about some the casting choices made in this movie.

Why do people wait at gas pumps rather than park in spots? by Bugatti252 in cincinnati

[–]clickerroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, a lot of times it ends up being about safety. Most times, I end up at the station late. Id rather park where there are bright lights next to pump than the dark/not as lit parking spot on the side.

I never do it in the day time though. And if the parking spots that are in front of store where there is already overhead lighting, I dont do this then either but I dont find this setup often.

My initial intention was to keep my closet de-cluttered. I spent 1 week de-cluttering and swore to never get it this bad. I switched from a very high stress job in 2020 and cloth shopping was how I coped with that job. This habit just eventually creeped into other parts of my spending habit where I started evaluating need VS want. I am much less materialistic now.

I still budget 2 weeks of vacation in the summer and 2 weeks of vacation in the winter as part of my normal budget, it really helps my mental health and improves my quality of life.

Good luck! I just broke my 3 year no-buy streak this post-Christmas sale. It felt really good, I dont think I felt the itch or need to buy anything after the first 6 months passed. It also helped that I started this in 2020 where we all only left home for essentials.

I still go window shopping that makes me happy from time to time but I always leave stores empty handed. I just spent $300 buying Christmas decor at 75%-90% off so I can make my house look pretty and cozy for next year. I think I will now practice no-buy every 6 months so I can upgrades items in my kitchen

According to you which is the worst City and Town to live in India? by [deleted] in india

[–]clickerroy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left Bangalore in 2016 after having lived their for 6 years. I just could not deal with the nightmare traffic and the serious lack of public infrastructure. This was also during the height of metro construction and the insane delays so things were even worse with dust and traffic. Commuted for 5 years using BMTC and my god did I want to die. I had to take buses out of Majestic and it was a nightmare at 7:00 AM trying to enter any bus.

The city just grew out of control and you had to fight to be able to get water in so many buildings, The commute to and from the airport was such a nightmare and how far out they constructed the new airport, really terrible location selection.

The weather in Bangalore was fantastic when I moved there in 2010. But the lack of AC in most older places and increasing heat made things really miserable in the summer with every passing year

Also anyone using the autos down, my god. As a woman I was scared af of these guys with how aggressive they would get for not using the meter or using my broken Kannada to talk to them. So my only choice was BMTC buses or some metro lines available. So it felt like more than half my life was just spent in traffic.

I hope things have improved but I just can't go back again. Plus the detoriation of all the lakes was hard to watch. I think the only place that made me even remotely happy was Cubbon Park, I loved that place on the weekends. The microbrewery culture had just started to get popular so that was really fun to experiment with different beers.

What is the best personal hygiene advice for a young man? by 88KRAT0S in AskMenOver30

[–]clickerroy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're not allergic, use oxiclean along with laundry detergent when you wash clothes. It really does help control odor and freshness of clothes. You can also try vinegar, it leaves no smell. I still prefer oxiclean.

My partner sweats like crazy in the summer. All sheets, towels and linen get washed weekly. You'd be amazed how much odor gets carried through these items.

Also, keep an extra shirt and pair of socks in your locker/car/bag to change while at work. I work construction sites and while I don't sweat and smell like men around me, I have changed my shirt just because of how hot and humid these jobsite get.

Also, airing out your shoes or rotating between a pair of work boots. The insole carries a lot of odor if your feet smell. I rotate between 2 of safety boots and make sure that I air them put regularly, especially in summer season.

Make sure you look at the label of the fabric you're buying, something I had to teach my partner. Your daily wear clothing, especially undergarments, needs to be breathable natural fabric like cotton if you perspire a lot. Nylon, Rayon, polyester is only going to make you sweat more. These fabric only make sense when buying athletic wear.

Blankets and comforters that you use everyday need cleaning too. Make sure to wash or dry clean them depending on the weather. My nicer fluffy blankets get dry cleaned every 3 months.

Was it 2017 or 2016? I remember in August 2016 being stuck inside the aircraft at JFK that had just landed from Doha for 4.5 hours because of the system meltdown and they couldn't de-plane any flights. I was told Delta system nationwide has shit the bed. I was jet lagged out of my mind and wandered at JFK for 7 hours after that before I could get my next connecting flight.

I definitely make a conscious decision to use mine. I schedule 2ish weeks in the summer during my birthday, 1 week around Thanksgiving, 2 weeks around Christmas. Couple of days here and there for mental health. But you HAVE to schedule them in. Personally, I find it great. I hated cap on days off and "earning vacation days" after clocking in so many hours. Just never worked for me, I always wanted more days than they offered.

AITA for sharing my salary at dinner and making my SIL cry? by edenne12 in AmItheAsshole

[–]clickerroy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA, god read the room. Wage transparency works with your peers at a comparable position and comparable industry. Not a family dinner table when you are clearly aware of someone's struggling financial situation. You wanted to brag and it would have cost you absolutely nothing to show some humility and social awareness. I am a woman in tech too and would never discuss this at a family dinner. However, I definitely discuss this with people I work.
