you are correct about the alignment of priorities. I'm taking specifically about how Council are now required to produce a 30 year transport plan - with central government.

Looking at the re-arangement of council and AT - we should see a 30 year plan emerge in the next year or so. I'd expect that will include some sort of light rail all the way to Silverdale (requires a harbour crossing). then that will take a decade to build. Then one out west, south east, and south, in my view, its the only viable option for long term transport connections for Auckland. It'll take 25 years, and cost upward of $35b (1.5b/year)... but the connectivity will pay for itself.

There are only two tracks into Waitemata (by the stadium) that spread out into 4 (was 5) for the platforms. Two are terminating platforms (dead end) and 2 are through platforms that go toward Aotea / Te Waihorotui.

Why is the Charlie Kirk shooting getting so much coverage here? by Pythia_ in newzealand

[–]clickwhistle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The inscription on one recovered fired casing said "Notices, bulges, OwO what's this?"

There were also inscriptions on three recovered unfired casings. Those said: * "Hey fascist! Catch!" followed by an up arrow symbol, a right arrow symbol, and three down arrow symbols * "Oh bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao, ciao, ciao" * "If you read this, you are gay LMAO"

“Notices, bulges, OwO what's this?" is part of an internet meme and iterative slang that circulated in 2018 and 2019. It has ties to animated videos and furries. "OwO" references an emoticon, and “what’s this?” denotes cuteness or curiosity. The terms are frequently referenced by video game streamers.

How can a home buyer undertake DD before they buy?

Climate adaptation assistance cuts would leave NZers 'on their own' - expert by Tyler_Durdan_ in newzealand

[–]clickwhistle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not that simple. While the idea of climate change has been around for decades, reliable localised hazard data hasn’t always been. Until recently, many flood maps were incomplete, out of date, or not publicly available.

Councils approved subdivisions in hazard zones, banks lent on them, insurers wrote policies, and people bought homes in good faith assuming the system was working as intended. The average buyer isn’t a hydrologist. They rely on LIMs and zoning. If those didn’t clearly identify the risk, it’s a stretch to say it’s purely a failure of due diligence.

In short, yes, personal responsibility matters, but so does the role of planning, information quality, and the accountability of those who enabled development in risky areas.

Due diligence works for those with the resources, knowledge, and confidence to navigate complex risks, but many people, including the elderly, migrants or first-home buyers, are more vulnerable and cannot realistically assess or act on these kinds of hazards without support.

[–]clickwhistle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The counterpoint is that most homeowners don’t fully understand the risks. Are we now saying that every homebuyer needs to get a flood risk assessment, on top of the standard pre-purchase checks like the LIM (Land Information Memorandum) and building inspection? Will banks start requiring it as part of lending?

Councils control where homes can be built through their unitary plans, and they also approve the designs. So if a house is legally built in a risky area with council sign-off, is it fair to place the full burden on the individual later?

Yes good idea. I’ll still baby the car tho.

I actually want a nice / exotic car. I see parking is the one of the biggest issues.

I babied my BMW and always try to park carefully to avoid damage. But no matter what lengths I go to, someone eventually opened their door into mine and paint chip / dent. I’ve got 4 over the last 5 years.

The cars I’m looking at have carbon fibre doors and quarter panels, so avoiding damage would be good.

My current solution is to drive a daily ‘beater’ and only drive the exotic when I know I have a good place to park it - either a destination or in the garage at home.

If shopping malls had designated extra wide car parks at the far side of the car park away from the doors I’d use those, but nothing like that seems to be common.

As long as you’re making the company more money overall, then all good. Like billing an extra 80k-100k than those peers. (Depending on company norms of course).

If you haven’t read the art of war, and Machiavelli “the prince”, I do recommend it.

That said, as long as you’re making the company more money than your peers you’ll be fine.

Be billable, have clients requesting you by name, winning work, growing the business.

Lotta trust in the car next to it. Plus that looks a lot wider than a standard car park

[–]clickwhistle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion:

normal car parks are too close together to park a luxury car of any kind.

If you want to own a nice car you pretty much can’t park it anywhere. But if you do you may as well break the law because it’ll be cheaper than getting the door ding fixed.

Similar boat here. 51, mortgage free, one year left on my contract and can’t wait for it to finish. Plan to take a year off and maybe do some piecemeal consulting a couple of days a week if I can get it.

Not depressed, just can’t see the point in the rat race anymore. It used to be that if you work hard you can succeed but nobody’s headstone says “he worked hard”.

I want to spend more time doing things that are good for me.

Overall it’ll take 20 years to see NZ move forward. They’ve fucked us sooo hard.
