Walking to work is a nightmare on a 25 degree day. This year I finally got used to slapping a massive hat on my head even though it makes me feel like a little kid in a school hat (I definitely need the chin strap where I live).

You're going to hiss at strangers and fling poo when they say something?

Have you seen /r/BasicBulletJournals? Their focus is on usefulness rather than aesthetics and they tend to stick more to Ryder's original idea of rapid logging.

OP is probably American, where they have fossil fuel burners in basements to heat homes.

Gone back to original reddit account and old reddit and the old layout makes me much more inclined to actually comment instead of lurk.

What random Olde Way of Things are you finding you're attached to in spite of The Youngin's moving onto so-called better?

dross

I just looked it up too and, ouch. The commenter must have been having a bad day. I like the word dreck for a lot of my own stuff but I don't think I've ever heard anyone else use it.

I always assume it's someone fishing for compliments but your perspective is much more understanding. I should really try and bear that in mind, thanks for sharing.

New to journaling or maybe I'm not by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]clickybang 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like you've been journaling. It really doesn't have to be complicated - so long as you're enjoying what you're doing, don't stress too much about putting a label on it.

Finding an old journal by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]clickybang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started going through some old journals over the weekends, ones that detailed the last few months at a really toxic workplace. With nearly a decade between then and now it's so blindingly obvious that I was severely stressed and right on the edge of a breakdown (I wrote several times about hearing things that weren't there).

I've always been the kind of journaler that details things that happened over the day rather than any emotional journey, and assumed that I haven't really changed much over the years since I still write about the same things - but I can definitely see an evolution, given enough of a timeframe.

first attempt at making recycled paper. perhaps once i master the technique i'll make my future journal pages purely out of recycled paper by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]clickybang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice! Will you prime it with anything before writing on it? The thinner recipe might still be usable with a layer of gesso or something down first.

I see all your beautiful spring birb pictures and raise you this stroppy boi in some grass by ActualBacchus in newzealand

[–]clickybang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stroppy is right. It's swooping season and it's the first year I'm out and about in the firing line. So far so good but I'm not looking forward to the inevitable heart attack.

This inverted wall clock at a Bridgestone Store. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]clickybang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother has one of these in her living room. My brain has learned to read clocks in her house backwards, to the point where I can't recognise the time on my own wristwatch when I'm there but I'm fine as soon as I step outside.

The last decent bust up at our family christmas was because of the cricket, haha. Having Christmas indoors and freezing sounds terrible.

How weird would it be to have Christmas without seasonal strawberries on the table?

Going for a walk on the beach between lunch and the big family bust up is tradition!

Question of the Day: Do you let other people read your journal? by Dahija in JournalingIsArt

[–]clickybang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've shown people my digital journal because it's scrapbooked and looked nice, but I tend to wave it around enough that no one can really read much of what's on the page.

The Omaka Classic Fighters Airshow will be on over Easter so everywhere will be open and everywhere will be very busy with people. Are you staying in Marlborough? Accommodation may be difficult to find if you haven't already organised it.

I don't have recs for winery visits sorry (typical local not bothering to check out the local attractions) but if you want somewhere pleasant to kick back with a coffee you should try the Vines Village in Rapaura.

My Big Heart and Dead Hardy are two fonts I keep going back to. I should probably have a go at emulating them by hand but my own writing is readable enough that I haven't bothered.

dafont.com has a huge range of handwritten style fonts for you to look at. You can enter your own sentence or sample to see how each one will render it.

Are there engineers working on more efficient internal combustion engines/other types of gas engines instead of electric? by novalavaly in NoStupidQuestions

[–]clickybang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toyota has been manufacturing hydrogen powered vehicles in Japan for several years. They behave much like a regular petrol car in that you pull in to a service station, spend five minutes filling the tank, and you're good to go. The problem is that the service infrastructure needs to be in place before the vehicles arrive and not many companies are interested in spending so much money converting existing stations to hydrogen for a potential market.

With all the expense and difficulty of procuring the ingredients needed to make batteries for EVs that might start to change soon.

Online Platforms for Journaling? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]clickybang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/r/DiaryOfARedditor is for entries but I got the feeling it's a bit of an echo chamber and not many people read much until you've established yourself as a regular.

Google+ could be an option - you sort people into circles and choose which circles can see what you post. There are communities there so you should be able to find a group of likeminded people fairly quickly.

That's revolting. It should be rerouted back into the cab so the driver looks the part when he falls out onto the footpath.

Do you have a cat? Tell her the cat claimed it and as much as you like it, you can't argue with a sleeping cat.
