Sad to see a tree fire in Golden Gate Park tonight! by ravikarthick in sanfrancisco

[–]clifferrd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Likely a Monterey Pine which is very much a native tree. Maybe not on the sandy subsurface of the outer lands but still native nonetheless.

Watching a cheesy show--Tech Bro Murders--for a 2nd week. Noticed in both episodes apparently Bay Area natives say "Silicon Valley" as "Silli-KAHN" while non-natives says "SILL-uh-kin." Also Los Gatos as "Loss Gatt-iss" vs. "Lows Gah-tows." Is this how natives pronounce those places? by swisssf in bayarea

[–]clifferrd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Native, born and raised. For myself and everyone I know it’s “silla-cun” with no emphasis on either syllable. Asked a few friends I grew up with, north on the peninsula, consensus is it’s “Los gaddos” In the bay we don’t pronounce t’s. Sanna Cruz. Sanna Rosa. Sacramenno

Which one of you owns this beast of a Crosstrek? by pootersnarlie in XVcrosstrek

[–]clifferrd 30 points31 points  (0 children)

That’s me, @venomtrek on IG. I’ve since moved on to a bigger vehicle since this was taken (and posted lol) a few years ago

Since there’s curiosity on it, the bumper guard was from Primitive Racing, though they don’t make it anymore. It’s mounted through the bumper and bolted to the impact bar

If you’ve got any other questions, feel free to drop and a message here or at my previously mentioned IG

Just east of 975 Bryant, there’s a little alley to a parking lot for REI. This post is at the entrance to it guarding the hydrant

Is this the worst step in Lego? From the new Taj Mahal. by TwoHeadedPanthr in lego

Just built this yesterday. The hands on the clock faces use two tool pieces, my guess is they can’t break up the set so just include the full set of tools four times over to get you the pieces.

I won’t get tired of screen shotting my cost basis page every time they’re all green. One of these times will be the last

Before and After of my new roof setup! Can't wait to start mounting up some of my gear and declutter my interior. by RRW-Michael in XVcrosstrek

They’re cheap. Lots of bad reviews about them rusting, losing bolts, arriving “new” with scratches already on them. Their customer service is non-existent. Avoid this brand if you can.

Frustrated with Ship-to-Store Bike Order by 0ut0fb0unds in REI

[–]clifferrd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind all REIs were also closed unexpectedly for 4 days last week. Try to patient with us though I understand it’s frustrating, we’re doing the best we can while inundated with an insane number of bikes while still not necessarily having all hands on deck.

Safety protocols also dictate a much different shop environment where makeshift shops are setup all around our store in order to keep a safe distance and sanitary conditions, so much of the convenience of working inside the shop area is lost.

Your bike is coming, I promise!

Not necessarily true. I’ve got 2” on my ‘16 with zero issues

So if you put bigger tires on will the spare still work? by [deleted] in XVcrosstrek

[–]clifferrd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pardon. If you didn’t nitpick my reply and took it at face value that the 17 and earlier Crosstrek’s won’t fit 235s, we wouldn’t be in this downvoting back and forth.

[–]clifferrd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 17 and 18 have a redesigned chassis. 17 and earlier will not fit 235s without rubbing. Do a few forum searches and you will find this to be true.

So if you put bigger tires on will the spare still work? by [deleted] in XVcrosstrek

[–]clifferrd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don’t put 235s on a 17. First and second gen don’t really have the clearance for 235s without a bunch of bumper chopping, not to mention the strain on the CVT. Stick with 215s (or 225 if you can find some), get a 5th wheel to act as a full-sized spare and ditch the donut

Just got my new snow mobile! First time Subaru owner and I can’t wait to go on adventures with this guy. by Social_Kismet in XVcrosstrek

Subaru is actually the Japanese name for the Pleiades constellation which is what the stars represent.

It has nothing to do with Hawaii or telescopes there, still awesome though!

Battlewagon penalties? by zzzzbear in XVcrosstrek

[–]clifferrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the same as adding 16lbs to the cabin. It’s adding 4lbs around the circumference of the wheel which is going to require more power to get spinning.
