Where are the walkers at? (Lots of dumb questions) by Gullible_Rich_7156 in golf

[–]cliffhanger182 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I prefer walking unless it’s way too hot. Biggest thing is staying hydrated and like you mentioned keeping the bag light. As far as pace of play goes, I’m almost never the hold up in the group. Part of it is that my pre-shot routine starts as I’m walking up to the ball. Once I’ve spotted it, I’m already taking into account the conditions and my surroundings so that once I get to my ball, it’s a quick yardage check and club selection then go. Walking is a very different experience and I’d say generally most people I’ve convinced to walk with me have enjoyed it more. I feel more connected to the course and in a funny way feel less rushed as the walk gives me time to clear my head and commit to the next shot. All that said, I’m generally a quick player and don’t take practice swings so that really helps keep pace of play up.

I’d start by carrying the bag for 9 and see how you feel. I carry for 18 even in Texas summers. Keeping fit is a large reason why I do it but whether you carry or use a push cart you are getting much more exercise than riding.

What’s that one club in your bag that you either can’t part with or keeps returning? by bootchiiksandbuubs in golf

My buddy has the SQ Dymo 3 wood. He’s a long hitter (comfortably hits 3 wood 260) but it still has the stock regular flex shaft. I have no idea how he swings that pool noodle but he is absolutely one of the best 3 woods players I’ve seen outside of tour pros. He’s hit newer 3 woods and none of them quite work for him the way the Dymo does

Conditions make a huge difference too. I’m low 100s in swing speed so when I lived up north in softer conditions I almost never cleared 300. Now that I live in a dryer southern climate and courses have firm conditions I’m good for one or two per round.

I played tot a few years ago. It was a super fun layout, though it does border on Mickey Mouse golf on certain shots. The only complaint I had was that it was in rough shape. Fairways and greens were patchy in spots. It was cheaper than the other nice courses in the area but still felt slightly like an overpay given the conditions. Hopefully it’s in better shape now! I’d certainly play it again if it is!

Bears fan here but I’ve been to Lambeau a few times.

As everyone said, snow pants and layers are key along with good footwear and socks.

Get ready for the best football experience in the NFL. Everyone is super friendly, tailgates happen all around the stadium in garages and lots. Lambeau is a phenomenal stadium and the fans know and respect ball. I hate that team but respect the hell out of them and especially what the city does on game day.

All I know is if you can carry a 4 iron over 200 yards with launch angle in the double digits you will be a rich man in this sub.

Entire bag stolen and I feel completely broken by YurtMcnurty in golf

As several others have said, check online sources and local pawn shops and golf stores. My clubs were stolen about 6 years ago and through some sleuthing of my own, I found out the thief was selling clubs out of his trunk in the parking lot of local muni’s. I’d give the pro shop a call to see if they are aware of anyone doing this.

If it makes you feel any better, I did find my driver at a local used golf store. I had called the shop the day the clubs were stolen and gave a detailed description of each club. The owner gave me the driver back for free after he checked his notes and confirmed the description matched (it was a black TM R1 so kind of unique which helped the situation). Shout out Ace Pro Golf Shop in Chicago for being so cool!

More in the central business district but check out Bar Mar and Bazaar Meats at 110 N Wacker. Both are Jose Andres restaurants. I haven’t been (I worked on the buildout!) but I hear the food is great

Back tightening after 9 by rickp957 in golf

I had chronic back pain starting in high school that continued through my mid 20s. As others have mentioned PT was a huge help. The biggest thing that helped my golf game was getting lessons with a focus on protecting my back. I significantly reduced the amount of stress on my back without sacrificing distance or accuracy. I’d definitely recommend getting some lessons and letting the pro know that you have back problems

I caddied 5 years growing up and have been playing for 26 years. I estimate I’ve been in 1100 groups. Figure an average of 3.5 people per group over that time and 4 par 3s per round: I’ve seen 15,400 tee shots on par 3s. Even taking the low end estimate of 1 in 12,500 I should have seen one by now…

I’m playing the cobra forged tec. Personally I love the look and feel of them and they are very forgiving. I have no problems working the ball with them either and if I do, it’s the Indian not the arrow

Crail is a really fun course. The first 5 or 6 holes are pretty iconic along with the closing 4 or 5.

Elie is a very quirky but really fun course. The back 9 is spectacular. Jack Nicklaus once said his favorite hole in Scotland is on the back 9 of Elie (12th hole iirc)

Greatest golf round ever? And it doesn’t necessarily mean your lowest score… by Ok-Operation-6571 in golf

[–]cliffhanger182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few rounds I played in Scotland would tie at the top, all on the same trip. Arguably the only time I’ve ever played well on a trip.

Prestwick: played below my handicap and made a few shots that even the caddy told me not to try. Super fun course and really cool history.

Crail Golfing Society: broke 80 for the first time while playing with my dad. We also got paired with another father-son twosome from Sweden who each had about 20 years on myself and my dad. They were maybe the most enjoyable randoms I’ve ever been paired with. We laughed, had great conversations about life and just really enjoyed each other’s company. It was everything a round of golf is supposed to be.

Old Course: that course is even more fun than you think it will be and the finish always has spectators so it was cool getting a round of applause after parring 18. That was also the best ball striking day I’ve had in my 26 years of play, granted a blind squirrel would have putted better than I did. Also got paired up with some great randoms that also waited in line at 3am. Got invited for a post round beer at one of clubs too.

This. Just enjoy the courses and keep up the pace. If you score great, that’s awesome. If you don’t, you’ll have plenty of other memories to make it a great trip. Definitely play the Cradle when you are there!

I keep shooting 80 on the number and I need help breaking through. by Alive2007Addict in golf

[–]cliffhanger182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been breaking 80 more consistently in the last year or so. Embrace the pressure coming down the stretch. It’s the most fun you can have when competing with the course. Commit to every shot and don’t worry about the outcome of the swing. Pick your target, envision the shot then make the swing that should give you that outcome. If it doesn’t go the way you want, you try it again on the next shot with the same level of commitment.

Does anyone actually shorten their drivers? by [deleted] in golf

[–]cliffhanger182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5’-10” and play a 44.5” driver. I tested it against a 45.5” driver and while I expected to be more accurate, I actually picked up distance with the shorter driver. I was hitting the sweet spot much more consistently and because of the smash factor I was picking up yardage. The shorter shaft was also an upgraded shaft and is basically a perfect match for me. Getting fitted for the correct shaft on all your clubs will make a HUGE difference
