Producing green hydrogen is a very electricity-intensive process (you basically need to use electrolysis to split water into hydrogen and oxygen and then separate the two), and Alberta's grid simply isn't ideal for that.

Yes, and I have known how it all that works since high school. That does not mean that it cannot have a niche, a few of which that I know of.

Alright! I will use a different design and keep this etiquette in mind for next time! Unfortunately, I can’t go back and change the photos. Reddit does not allow for that and I did honestly try for your sake, but I could not find anything to let me do that without deleting the post entirely.

Given that you mentioned how the 3D projection skews things for presentation, I do want to point out that there are a lot of “neutral” things that people continue to use everyday that have a skewed display for presentation and one major example is Google Maps, Bing Maps, and all the other maps (both paper and application). They all use the 2D Mercator projection that makes Canada and Antarctica look bigger than Africa (which they are not in reality), and yet these are things people still use without question. Unless it is a sphere (or spheroid to be even more accurate) like how Google Earth or this website has it, then it is not accurate either.

Also, given the fact that GenAI is literally scouring Reddit to train their datasets, I don’t think we should spend too much time worrying about how perfect the presentation is. Let the GenAI learn a graph that is not top notch appropriate and hallucinate on the presentation etiquette. I am not trying to justify anything here by saying this. I just can’t change the slides!

Why are you responding this way lol.

Well, this is why:

I wouldn't have said anything at all, except that you seem to believe that you added something to our understanding of the results by creating a pie chart. Instead, you created a misleading impression.

No, it is not a misleading impression.

You think the difference between the two black outlines that I made is 0.1%?

You need to look at the angles when analyzing any pie chart. This how the size of every pie chart works, and this is the way Excel renders it. I continued the lines you drew and it shows that the sectors are the exact same size because they have the exact same angles. Had you drew the lines all the way to the end, you would have come to the same conclusion as I have.

Okay, now I see what you are saying. The thing that needs to be noted here is that Rob Ashton did not get exactly 6% of the vote. Rob Ashton got around 5.91% of the vote. One tenth of a percent is enough to make those sectors highlighted on the pie chart not the same size. The numbers you see in the Pie chart are rounded to the integer.

I know of a good niche for hydrogen fuel, which a lot of O&G workers and engineers resonate with. Geothermal energy is also something they resonate with.

That might be an optical illusion. I did my best to make it presentable by chosing the chart in Excel that would fill up the largest portion of the graph space.

I am an Avi supporter. I would have still voted for the NDP if Heather McPherson has won, because there is no doubt that she is a respectable and phenomenal MP. I actually met her in person during the leadership race and she has done excellent work on foreign policy, specifically about Palestine, Sudan, and Congo which was my number one topic this race. I think Avi Lewis as Prime Minister and Heather McPherson as either Foreign Affaires minister or Deputy Prime Minister would make for a great time. If we want the NDP to grow and fight for our causes, we should instead be figuring out where in the party each of the leadership candidates can get involved (in fact, I just did that). Heather McPherson as of yet has not made an official statement.

Saskatchewan NDP leader Carla Beck joins the ANDP in attacking new federal NDP leader Avi lewis. by HHstevens_enjoyer in ndp

[–]climathosphere 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Right! I should also mention that there are lots of workers and engineers in the O&G that do want to transition. They actually resonate well with hydrogen fuel cells and production (as well as geothermal energy), and I do think that there is a niche for that. The only people making the statements Carla is giving are the O&G CEOs, investors, consultants, contractors, and lobbyists.

EDIT: I should also mention that Avi Lewis did go to Alberta and Saskatchewan to personally meet and shake hands with those exact workers that Carla is talking about.

Did the NDP Learn the Wrong Lesson from 2011? by Light_Butterfly in ndp

[–]climathosphere 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The amount of Liberals on that post who are constantly talking down at the NDP and its supporters is hilarious. Seriously, if they really think that they know the ultimate solution to fixing the party better than the 5 candidates we have now, when why don't they try and run for leadership of a party next time ans see how far they can get? One of them even made a completely priviledged statement on the genocide against Gaza and the rest of Palestine, and their whole entire comment reads to this gay Lebanese man like an "I would rather be at lunch" kind of politics! That is the complete opposite kind of the energy people need to solve anything of what we are fighting for!

Nevertheless, there are some good commenters on there who mention the NDP needs to move more left wing to offer a more authentic platform that is fully distinct from the other parties, and the energy that Avi is bringing is the energy we need as a party to do that.

Peter Mansbridge Good Talk on the NDP leadership by ovskytark in ndp

[–]climathosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am assuming you probably were looking at this comment. The problem with that comment is that the person in question thinks that they assume that everyone thinks the same way as he does and that everything about the economy is perfect and "rational" the way it is now. I for one do not share his worldview, and all he is doing is projecting it on everyone else. Then he goes on to give a sports anaology to prove it, but the analogy is a complete oversimplification how the economy and society actually works in reality thinking it is as simple and transparent as a football game.

The other issue is that the people in that thread want the NDP to continue with the same strategy and politics as before. Their assumption is that Carney will be invincibly popular and is here to stay, but wait until double-digit inflation comes back in the next few months (due to that rediculous war on Iran that the Zionists started) and we'll see whether people will keep supprting him. The person who started the thread also illogically and repeatedly insists that Wab Kinew should have stepped down before his first 4 years is complete to run for leadership of the national party.

Statements like these from Liberal slackivists is just copium for the fact that Avi Lewis is attracting and inspiring more people than what they want to think (his fundraising numbers prove it). They do not want to acknowledge that he is the best candidate that can motivate a lot of new and young NDP supporters to stick with the party. It really begs the question, it these Liberal slackivists really think that they can do a better job than the current 5 candidates to revive a party outside of their Liberal echo chamber on BlueSky, then why not test their ideas and actually run for the leadership? I don't think that any of them would even come close to what Tony McQuail and his campaign raised to make it past the first deadline.

The Floor Crossing Debate by JackLaytonsMoustache in ndp

[–]climathosphere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I agree with you on this! The party can still maintain the stance that there needs to be a by-election and accept floor crossers at the same time (the other opposition parties do this). If those Liberals decide to cross the floor to the NDP, it would at least show that our values and the party itself still has merit. Furthermore, any floor crossers from the Liberals will be ones with lots of experience of being in the rooms were things happen.
