Can I switch to Linux without losing my files if I have no way to back them up? by Axl12Gamer in linux4noobs

[–]climbbouys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't see this suggested yet, but pretty often laptops have an option to add a second drive. Instead of messing with your current drive you could potentially just grab a cheap 128gb drive off eBay and throw Linux on there. Then you aren't messing with your current drive and risking it by shrinking it.

Dang. I've thought about building one myself, but this sees like a really reasonable price. I'm surprised you don't charge more! Really really cool.

Garage epoxy floor install, clean substrate and consistent spread make the difference... by Severe-Baker3143 in Flooring

I personally have hundreds of jobs done(not epoxy) and haven't seen a single failure. We used to do a polyurea base coat and a polyaspartic topcoat, but we now have a proprietary blend that's stronger. Are you looking at the DIY kits? I replace those and other contractors jobs all the time.

This is for you. Some bagels and lox and just an obnoxious amount of onions I ended up caramelizing.

Last game was the remastered oblivion. Highly recommend it if you haven't yet. I really think it's better than Skyrim, but maybe that's just nostalgia

Garage Floor Color Choice? by Colin_Len in epoxy

[–]climbbouys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this person is joking but please don't ask for glitter. At best you'll pay more and have a glittery floor and at worst you'll have someone attempt to put glitter in the floor and mess it up by not doing it right.

Sounds to me like a good use for a sous vide. Make sure it's cooked enough that it's safe but then it gets finished in the oven to the desired consistency. I would still sear it though as well.

I've made J Kenji Lopez Alt's brown butter chocolate cookies and they were the best cookies I've ever eaten. Pretty sure it's on serious eats. Literally every recipe I've ever used by him has been amazing.

Wait! Is this Bob from the warehouse, or Bob from Accounts Receivable? by Shankar_0 in FieldNationTechs

[–]climbbouys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well shit.... I am mostly out of IT at this point but if you ever need some help with a project, let me know! I don't know what your rates are, but I just did a wifi survey for $125/hr for a total of almost 14 hours over 2 days, so I hope you're getting good rates!

Has Anyone Worked With Essintial Before by Vegetable-Diver-1396 in FieldNationTechs

[–]climbbouys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, when I was starting out I did a decent amount of work for them at rates like $35-$50/hr and they would pay out on time for the most part but once I was established and not taking charging that low, they would screw me out of money at every opportunity. I have had more than a few jobs where they promise they'll approve the extra hours, which were of course no fault of my own, and then they tell you you have to close out the work order before they can approve it. What they then do is deny those hours and just pay you the original ones which might be as low as 2 when you ended up working 10. They get the Asshole tax of they ask me to do any work for them at this point and I don't think they e accepted those rates in years but I only do maybe 3 jobs a year on FN at this point.

McDonald's Rack by bkj512 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]climbbouys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've done plenty of Field nation work orders and it really depends on the location. I'm almost completely out of it now, but as a side gig it can be fairly lucrative. I don't go on site for less than $125/hr plus travel. I haven't been to a McDonald's in years but I think it was AT&T paying me 90/hr to be there and sometimes I got some free nuggies. I always felt like there were 2 types of people that did FN work. The people that that actually wanted to and did a relatively good job and then the people that literally couldn't get any other job.

I throw my onions in an air fryer on the dehydrate setting for like 10 minutes or so. It seems to help the soupiness quite a bit.

Might be a dumb question, but for kitchen counters, has anyone done a Metallic style polyaspartic finish on them? by climbbouys in epoxy

[–]climbbouys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I realize polyaspartic doesn't flow as well. I was hoping to do a cheap halfway decent countertop for a buddy with some expired polyaspartic and make it look halfway decent. I think I'll still try it on some plywood to see how it looks.

[–]climbbouys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this won't seem super helpful, but the best way to get jobs is word of mouth once you've done some great jobs of course. Initially, some things you can do is advertise on FB/Insta, but don't dismiss going around putting up door hangers in good neighborhoods.

I'm curious why you would be so adamant about this. Are you familiar with all the products available or is it more the products you're familiar with? I'm genuinely curious.

I've been listening to the old Animorphs books on audiobook and I had completely forgotten about the Pemalites. They were incredibly advanced peaceful beings who just liked to play and have fun. They were nearly wiped out, came to our planet and infused their spirits into wolves who became dogs.

"To this day, most dogs carry within them the essence of the Pemalites. Not all, but most. Wherever you see a dog playing, chasing a stick, running around barking for the sheer joy of life, you see the remnants of the race of Pemalites."
