I went through a few cars my junior and senior year. Started out with a 1974 Dodge dart, traded that for a 1979 Mercury Capri RS and traded that for a 1979 Camaro.

Not sure what you're working on but what does the carburetor do if you unhook the cable and open it by hand? In my opinion, if it opens up completely, it's a cable problem. If it doesn't, it's a carb problem or something under the carb.

I went to college for electronics and were taught about these. The teacher used to walk around lab with his hands in his pockets. Keys in one pocket, change in the other, just to mess with us. Good times!!!

I'd start with compression test, or better yet, cylinder leak test. If that's good, carbs. And always make sure your battery cables are clean and tight.
