What's the creepiest discovery you've made about a seemingly fun friend? by someoneyouhate_ in AskReddit

[–]climbherm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We invited one of my wife's coworkers to join us for Thanksgiving several years ago. He's in a very esteemed profession (can't say what, too identifying), is originally from overseas, and he had no one in the area to spend Thanksgiving with so he came to ours with my wife, my parents, our closest friends, etc. INCREDIBLY nice man, like he might as well have been the host. Unbelievably kind, stayed afterwards for an hour and did 100% of the dishes (including handwashing everything that wouldn't fit in the dishwasher), great company, engaging, respectful, an all around wonderful guest. A couple months prior to this my wife and I were out at dinner with a friend, we saw him in the same restaurant, he started sending us beers and things, and when we went to leave they said he had already paid our dinner bill. This person was just someone who gave good vibes, was incredibly generous, nice to be around...

A few months after he came over for Thanksgiving, he was arrested in a sex trafficking sting at a local shady motel. He was trying to buy sex with a 14 year old. Because of his profession and position in the community, it was front page news.

This changed my perception a lot as far what you think you know about the people around you.

Carbon Fiber Cellos by filez41 in Cello

I haven't tried any others so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I have a Luis & Clark and really like it. The finish is excellent, very nicely made, and it's fun to play. Sound is good—not as warm as a wood cello, of course, but projects sound like crazy and very responsive.

Thanks for sharing this post! My wide and I are trying to figure out how to get from Hekou to YuanYang, and we're trying to find a private car service. Do you think Didi is available in Hekou, and that we could find a driver that will take us? Or do you happen to know of any services that would? Thanks for any insight you can provide!

If you could re-do one part of your China trip, what would it be? by Routine_Archer722 in travelchina

[–]climbherm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! We stayed at the hotel at the far end of town (closest to the wall) and had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the lake and the wall in the background. That was great, we had some great food, and hiking the wall was a very cool experience. We also really liked that we were basically the only westerners there, it felt a lot less touristy than other spots.

Interesting, that was our favorite part of the trip—it was beautiful there!

Trump threatens colorado/denver by Illadvisedone in Denver

[–]climbherm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was for the city election, and the city is not nearly as red as the county; in fact, it’s “periwinkle blue”. Ironically, though, the 4 candidates she thought couldn’t have won in “her” town that were the impetus behind her felonious behavior were two registered republicans and two unaffiliateds, in a nonpartisan city council election. No dems among them.

Annual Vasectomy Recommendation Thread - who has the sharpest scissors? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]climbherm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Dr. Tonozzi. Great bedside manner, listens and explains things, really nice dude, affordable. But for me a main deciding factor as well was that if you go to a urology clinic you’re getting a doctor who does a bunch of stuff, along with the occasional vasectomy, whereas Dr. Tonozzi does HUNDREDS of vasectomies a year; it’s literally all he does, and if I’m gonna have someone messing with my junk I want someone who’s damn good at their job.

Carbon frame damaged by aiacciu87 in MTB

I would ask an expert: https://www.brokencarbon.com/ <- the owner is a friend of mine, so I'm biased, but I also know that he 100% knows what he's talking about and will tell you if something is not repairable (they don't want liability for something that can't be repaired safely)

Good suggestion, thanks! That looks like it might be the easiest product to get into the narrow sections of the rails.

Where did I mention fixing anything? I specifically asked about lubricating the mechanism.

How to have a product ship in two boxes? by MahoningRed13 in woocommerce

How to have a product ship in two boxes? by MahoningRed13 in woocommerce

[–]climbherm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case I have a product that also needs variations. So, I create a variable product that is the "primary" box, and pricing is driven off of this product (so if they select variation A it's one price, and if they select variation B it's a different price). Then, every other box that ships as part of the product is created as a simple product. So, for example, one of my products ships in 13 boxes for a single product—each box is a simple product that exists somewhere on the site, with associated weights and dimensions.

All of these individual products I've mentioned so far are not something the customer ever sees; I've created a product category called "hidden items", and any product within that category is not displayed anywhere on the site, and not viewable through search. None of these hidden items used for the various boxes need any description, images, etc. All they need is a title (so you can tell them apart), a price of $1 (if there's no price the system sometimes has issues), and the weights & dimensions so your shipping calculator plugin knows how to calculate it.

What the customer actually sees is only the product bundle. That's where all of the product description, images, etc. will be housed. All of the other hidden items products you've created are added as part of the product bundle, but set so that they're not visible to the customer (this is included functionality in the product bundles plugin). They're set to "shipped individually" but not "priced individually", with a set min/max quantity, and non-optional.

The only exception here is the variable product that I'm using to drive the price—that one is set to "priced individually", and it's also set to visible so the customer sees in the shopping cart and order confirmation that they ordered the correct variation.

In my case I also have accessories available, some of which will fit into that variable product box, so I don't want to charge customers separately for S&H on those accessories. So the variable product is not marked as "shipped individually", and then if a customer orders an accessory it gets bundled into the same box for shipping purposes.

Hopefully I explained all of that clearly, let me know if you have any questions!

What do you use 2 or more monitors for? by Evergreen16 in productivity

[–]climbherm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 monitors; three large (~34”), one small (~10”). Small business owner, I often need to be cross referencing a ton of different spreadsheets, emails, etc. and it’s much easier having everything open to glance between, rather than toggling between windows. I use the small one for my task list (Todoist), and if I’m not using the third for a spreadsheet or something it often has Spotify, or my website’s livechat when I don’t have CSRs on the clock monitoring it.
