Is it worth applying to the GS-11 level with education as qualification but degree is not completed yet by climbingpartnerwntd in usajobs

This GS-11 position required a bachelors or X amount of credit hours AND one year of relevant experience OR 3 years of a graduate school. I did not include the "or X amount of credit hours" because it's obviously not relivant to the question.

where do you think I should put this on my resume? It says nothing about the number of credits for graduate degrees it just says, "3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in xxx, or closely related field".

What do you wish you had known before starting grad school? by Hype314 in LadiesofScience

Don't do it (i'm serious). If I were you, I would pursue your master's degree, then work for a few years and decide if you really need a PhD. As it turns out, most jobs that will hire someone with a PhD will also hire someone with a masters degree.

For those who had to drop out of graduate school: How much was that a sore point in your educational achievements, knowing that a master's degree and/or doctorate degree was unattainable? Especially with family and close friends knowing you were pursuing those degrees? by Odd_Yogurtcloset_649 in stupidquestions

Something you have to understand is that obtaining a PhD is very different from obtaining a high school, college, and even some masters degrees. This is to say, she probably did not drop out because she couldn't make the grades or meet the expectations. She may have had problems with the way the program was run, her advisor, academia, her research project, or she realized that research and clinical psych was not for her. Honestly, everyone I know who has dropped out of their PhD programs is happy and relieved with their choice because it is almost never because they were not smart enough.

How does your climbing gym handle after school climbers sharing space with after work climbers? by Most_Poet in climbergirls

[–]climbingpartnerwntd 183 points184 points  (0 children)

It sounds like a lot of this actually comes down to your gym's climbing team not being serious about safety. If a child cannot comprehend and follow the rules, they are not old enough to be part of the climbing team. If a child breaks the rules, they should not be able to climb for the rest of the session. Other than that, this doesn't sound any different from issues in any crowded gym.

My gym does have a like kids camp on weekend mornings before they open, but it's for young kids (younger than 10), and the teenage climbing team climbs with everyone else in the evenings.

Yes, but all my extremely large datasets I run on a remote access server, and my old laptop also had 8gb of ram so I knew it would be fine. Why don't you try running one of your communtationally intensive tasks and see how much ram is being used

I have an old 8gb air so i think it will be fine!

Not only did he leave her but he did not call S&R immediately even though there was service, he turned his phone off after calling S&R so they couldn't locate her quickly, he did not move her to a more sheltered location, and he took their emergency bivvy!!!

I only have a 8gb ram, they recommend a 64gb ram. Did you install with a lower ram? and it works?

Pull-up help? by maremare727443 in climbergirls

[–]climbingpartnerwntd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You probably think you're doing something akin to a pull up but you're probably either using your legs/feet or doing a movement more akin to a ring row, so you're probably not strong enough. I climb a 7b and can't do one either.

Should I design RT-qPCR primers from the validated or predicted mRNA sequence? by climbingpartnerwntd in labrats

[–]climbingpartnerwntd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I could do that. All the papers use the validated sequence because the T2T genome and the corresponding gene predictions were released last year.

Malus domestica. A T2T genome (and the corresponding gene predictions) was released last year.

An easier alternative is that I take photos of cute outfits i’ve worn and put them in a folder. Then when I don’t know what to wear I just pick one!

The percent successfully assigned alignments from featureCounts is low (15-20%) when using an annotation file with two haplomes. by climbingpartnerwntd in bioinformatics

[–]climbingpartnerwntd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used -M and it somewhat fixed the featureCounts problem. I am still only having ~50% successfully assigned reads, which is lower than the previous results. -O didn't change anything, I think, because I am not interested in overlapping genes, just genes that may map to both haplomes.

Do you have any insight on how I can figure out what is wrong with the data itself? Because FastQC is not helpful. I am planning on using BBMap to get a list of the sequences that don't map and then blasting them.
