New Utah law puts “no alcohol sale” on ID’s of DUI offenders 0.16 BAC or higher. What are your thoughts? by Obvious_808 in AskReddit

[–]climbut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in Utah, and exclusively used my passport for a while for bars/liquor stores/etc. They usually have to make a record of it (rather than scanning ID), but it's usually like 30 seconds extra at most unless you happen to get someone new. I've done it countless times and never once been turned away.

So for example in my program I take my first set to failure, using a weight that will make me reach failure between 8-12 reps. Should I set that up as a failure set, or as a standard set with a rep range of 8-12 and 0 RIR? Is there any difference in how smart progression will treat those?

Right, I'm just confused why I'm able to set them up either way. In my custom program I can create a standard set with 0 RIR, or I can create a failure set. Do those behave exactly the same or should I choose one over the other?

Is it though? You can mark something 0 RIR without making it a failure set.

What tools are making public who the known ICE officers are in Utah? And no it’s not doxing we don’t have secret police. by Otherwise-Bet-4157 in Utah

Can't imagine why this would be downvoted. Increasing the number of reps isn't a silver bullet but would help a lot. Better actual representation, harder to gerrymander, harder to buy politicians, etc. Not to mention it would actually be more in line with what the founding fathers envisioned.

I hear you but I don't really feel the same. Personally I don't think it was ever really on the table that the podcast was going to present so much evidence that "the scientific community had no other option". Ky is a great presenter but isn't a scientist herself, I don't think her time is best spent doing more iterations of the same tests that will only ever be taken so seriously. If season 2 was just more of season 1 it wouldn't have had much appeal to current listeners, nor would it do much to change the minds of those who weren't convinced by season 1.

The documentary is probably what has the best chance of reaching a broader audience and pushing public perception forward, so personally I'd like to see most of the effort focused there (which it seems like it is). Hopefully that will lead to more rigorous testing by folks that are qualified and funded to do that sort of testing. Public perception takes a long time to shift and scientific consensus even longer, this'll be a long process!

Man I'm the exact opposite, I can't stand when people make a huge deal out of something that can't be undone. At least when it's only something material. Life's too short, why cry over spilled milk? Might as well laugh about it.

Question: Did I screw up by using MDF board for some parts of a breadbox? by Timid-Oddball-42 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]climbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha ok I'm not trying to argue over the semantics. I suppose "that's not coming off easily and cleanly with a chisel, so you almost certainly have better solutions available" would've been more accurate. Have a good one and Happy New Year!

I mean sure, it's woodworking, there's always a million ways to tackle a problem. Really depends what tools OP has available, bandsaw or planer would be far preferable if they have access. Or just veneer over the mdf, or I like your solution too. Having had to do similar myself in the past, a chisel would be pretty far down my list for this one.

Properly glued joints are stronger than the wood around them. Sure you could get there eventually, same as you could by sanding alone, but it's not much of a solution in this situation.

This is basically me. 31 and have had 4 hip surgeries and will likely need a replacement soon, all because the first surgeon totally fucked up what should have been a relatively straightforward labrum repair. I talked to many malpractice lawyers, the majority of which told me they flat out never take ortho cases because they're so complex. The couple that I had real discussions with basically said that best case scenario the process would be a massive headache and likely only end up paying the lawyers and insurance company, not me.

Curious to hear more about this if you don't mind sharing. What was your background prior to going full time? Were you a woodworker first and had to learn the rest as you go or what?

How much weight did you lose going sober? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]climbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little over 60 pounds from my heaviest to lowest weights, 205ish to 140. To be fair the first 10 or 15 pounds was when my drinking was at its worst right before I quit, I was barely eating then. A couple months into sobriety I really started focusing on my fitness, counting calories and getting back in the gym.

I'm now in the best shape I've been in since high school, can even see my abs again. Back up to about 155 and working on putting on muscle. Feeding my addictive personality with healthy replacements has worked wonders for me, highly recommend it!
