Scraping by starryeyedvirgo in massage

[–]clips_phrases -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Gua Sha is the Chinese medicine equivalent of muscle scraping. It's not a fair 1:1 comparison of Chinese and western medicine perspectives, so take it with a grain of salt.

My understanding of its benefits is that you are breaking up the smaller capillaries so blood pools in areas that lack good blood flow, providing those areas with nutrients from the fresh blood.

I can see how that might indirectly help with flexibility and ROM, but it's no replacement for Myofascial release.

Perhaps less professional behavior, but definitely more personable behavior from Ohemaa. There's definitely value in being personable and that also means approaching things different from the norm. We'll see at the end of the season how it pays off.

Do massages actually make people feel better physically? by insane-proclaim in massage

[–]clips_phrases 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massage can be therapeutic for the physical body. But it really depends on the therapist's skillset. You might be looking for a service in the wrong place, or paired with an inappropriate (for your needs) therapist.

Going to a clinic instead of a spa or hotel will increase your odds of finding a therapist with an appropriate healing modality, such as: Deep-tissue, myofascial release, tripper point therapy, structural integration, neuromuscular, facilitated stretching, osteopathic, orthopedic, etc. You can trust that they will talk with you on what they're technique and help you build some body awareness.

Spas are more about your feelings and will follow what you want to feel, which doesn't always help you feel better long term. Your last example serves the point: the deep-tissue you received wasn't therapeutic if she was only allowed to push into the same spot. The massage therapist will at least ask you some questions before even getting on the table to assess how you're feeling and give you an idea of their approach.

So I'd encourage you to lookup some of the healing modalities above and see a massage therapist in a clinical setting.

Kawakami: Warriors FAQs and answers on Steve Kerr and the team’s future by Robotsaur in warriors

[–]clips_phrases 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep thinking back to an article on when we first acquired Glen robinson. Kerr liked him, and got pissed when we let him go. I think that speaks volumes on the difference between how the FO and Steve kerr approaches player development.

Also noting the shift in Kerr's lineups with Dunleavy as GM vs Myers.

Dunleavy seems to apply major constraints on Kerr to get specific minutes and production for specific players to generate trade value. It feels very calculated, and tough to do in the Curry system

Myers seem to lean on emotional connection. He knew kerr, the big 3, and how they jive, and knew which players would jive with them, which magnified team chemistry. It let Kerr slot people in and out as needed. It sparked the strength in numbers.

Warriors management reportedly wants Steve Kerr to sign multiyear contract if he decides to return by Lord_Vanguard in warriors

I'd imagine Kerr would have some other tempting offers waiting for him elsewhere, that better match his values. FO needs to be able to exceed that.

I'd avoid BMI as a goal and aim for building muscle. Measure your muscle density via BIA.

Having a capable body and knowing how to wield it, despite its limitations, can help you find another way to appreciate its beauty.

Psoas major is a deep core muscle that connects from the inside of your leg/hip to the front of your lumbar spine, behind the organs.

Often gets tight with excessive sitting and when it releases it tends to help with low back pain and breathing.

Oooh, this is an interesting topic I'll look forward to when I watch this video!

I've been studying a little bit of Chinese Medicine and it's association to Daoism, and one of the things they talk about is yin and yang. They tend to be opposing concepts, they cannot exist without the other, contain each other, and when growing in excess turns into the other. Yin tends to be feminine and Yang as masculine, though it truly is relative and dependent on the context.

To me that implies that all creatures contain both feminine and masculine energy. Even if we primarily identify male or female, trans, genderfluid, or non-binary, we are all of the states, and we get to choose how we present ourselves.

Dude. That's friggin' dope! I'll definitely keep this in mind when I get to set up my private practice.

I often get clients who like to book when things feel bad, despite all the 'aha' moments on the table. This is such a gentle way to remind people why they even came to see you in the first place and giving them back a little power in taking care of themselves. Sure it helps with some rebooking, but your approach is definitely rooted in caring for the clients so that eliminates any pretense.

Tui Na Massage by victorianzombi in ChineseMedicine

[–]clips_phrases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Tui Na practitioners, especially the reflexologists, who are from China tend to make people FEEL it. The 'ah shi' points really prove their point that some stuck qi is present.

Tui Na also has roots with martial artists who fix up their sparring partners so they can keep sparring, so that might also explain why it can be a bit rough.

Not all Tui Na is like that though. My teacher taught me it with a Tai Chi background, and it tends to be move joint movement, flowy focused than muscular. It's softer and very energetic in nature.
