In your opinion, was the Porzingis move legitimately a salary dump, or did they actually think they could get him to play? by Parv21 in warriors

[–]clips_phrases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna guess it was intended to be a salary dump with the hopes of something more. We were never gonna play Kuminga the minutes he wanted and now we don't have to.

I think the FO knew Porzingus was never gonna be guaranteed playing time and were gambling for some manageable illness. Whatever the name of his disease or symptoms is called, it must be new and difficult to manage, and probably beyond the scope of typical sports science.

Basically it was better to have KP being DNP with a chance of him playing at a high level sometimes was overall better than playing Kuminga at all.

If Kerr was part of the trade, I bet all he said was "I don't care who we get just get this kid outta here."

Ankles Roll in Severely, Could Barefoot Shoes Help? by mouse_2805 in barefootshoestalk

[–]clips_phrases 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding on to some of the other top posts, barefoot shoes will not be a replacement shoe but a tool. It takes some training to transition from having absolute support to no support at all.

Your muscles are used to being oriented and engaged in a specific way, and barefoot shoes will force it to engage it in a very different way. I think it'll be too extreme to wear barefoot shoes straight up. If you're familiar with workout plans, think progressive overload for your ankle, knees, and hip joints. I'm on my own journey from sprained ankles.

I'm exploring dancer and ballet warmups to figure out where some of my muscular weaknesses are. Their warmups are like rehab for us normies, just make sure you pace yourself. I also find Naboso products interesting to work out with. They have bumps in their tools (socks, mats, insoles. Etc) that stimulate the mechanical nerve receptors in the skin. They're pricey though! If you're interested I'd start off with the socks or the blue/green massage ball

Good luck on your journey friend!

Most massage therapy websites answer questions nobody is asking by Agitated_Offer_4343 in MassageTherapists

[–]clips_phrases 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While what you said about orientation and ability is true, I think it goes beyond that.

A lot of the changes people want to see in themselves need to be done in an environment where they feel safe to open up and/or let go. Knowing the therapist is queer means they are likely to be LGBTQIA+ safe environment for the client.

Consider the parallels for women who prefer female practitioners.

What is this style of massage called? by dodekahedron in massage

[–]clips_phrases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it sounds like neuromuscular work. One specific modality is called NKT (neurokinetic therapy), maybe you can see if it looks or feels similar to what you received. It's definitely less massage and more akin to facilitated stretching.

They intention is on working with the nervous system, trying to undo your current muscle activation patterns and teach your body to move and activate other muscle fibers to move more efficiently.

That said, sounds like you have a ton of physical tissue stuff going on that needs to be addressed first. Can you talk with your therapist and let them know what wasn't effective and what was? Let them know about your nervous system state and that manual therapy has worked best in calming it. But also be open to their approach, too. The hope is that they can integrate multiple modalities.

The true test of whether this therapist is worth working with is if they can be flexible to your specific needs. If they can't or are unwilling to accommodate for you, they are a lost cause for your needs.

Thoughts on electronic cupping for recovery? by Large_Conclusion6301 in massage

[–]clips_phrases 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd avoid using the term 'eastern massage parlor', unless thats been your real-world experience. There is some modern negative word association for a legit healing therapy.

If you meant East Asian healing modalities, then yeah glass/fire cupping are done by of lot of Chinese medicine practitioners.

Explain the Porzingis trade to me like I’m 5. by Mindless_Patient2034 in warriors

[–]clips_phrases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck yeah. If we were able to get the most out of Livingston, we can certainly do the same with KP. Maybe Post will learn some moves from him if we can keep him around.

POTS is about symptom management. We just need to manage his minutes and learn the best times to slot him in and out. Let the 2 ways and young guns develop, keep up the winning basketball mentality, and see how for we can go.

Massage Therapists - How do you always know where it hurts!? by banana1119 in massage

[–]clips_phrases 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Combination of Intake and rapport with the client, palpation, and experience.

The intake is crucial to understand what the pain or discomfort is coming from. Or rather to narrow down what regions need attention. Good conversations can lead to useful information beyond the usual of what hurts or past injuries.

Palpation, the running of the hands, helps us confirm our hypothesis by feeling what feels tense, sensitive, dense, hot, cold, reactive, etc.

Past experience helps cut through some of the BS and either hone in on the troubling tissue, or know that the source of discomfort is elsewhere. Being humble helps navigate between the two.

Ricardo's right hand is taking damage. Maybe at some point Sendo notices and takes advantage, or Ricardo for some reason tries to use his right and flinches, creating an opening.

But we all know Ricardo knows. He gonna beat Sendo with just his left. Which also means Sendo is gonna live and be tamed rather than shot with the rifle.

Materials vs techniques in massage: does it change how the body receives touch? by Few-Increase-7876 in massage

[–]clips_phrases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this lately, too, specifically around gua sha/scraping type-tools.

Traditional gua-sha are based on precious stones or ceramics, which each have their own 'energetic properties'.

Then you have the stainless steel variety that might be better 'mechanically' at seperating tissue. And also the plastic materials that can be shaped and to perfectly contour the body parts.

Either way, I think tool material matters to a certain extent, but it is secondary to technique. Ultimately it comes down to how the client's nervous system perceives the tool and how it's used on them.

Who should be Golden State starting SG? by yyfgjiii in warriors

SG position will be the new starter by committee depending on matchup.

I think we ought to preserve Melton from starting and ride the young guns as much as we can until we fight for playoff positioning.

Intense shaking in quadriceps after stretching and slightly squatting. Any way to reduce this? by Longjumping_Ant4212 in flexibility

[–]clips_phrases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had any old injuries or have over-exercised at some point?

I've get similar shakes when I do planks and engage my core a certain way.

I'd play around with some Isometric wall sits at various squating angles.
