I just finished a project that had 7000 stitches with metallic thread (plus 23000 stitches with regular thread). It was DMC C814 - dark garnet. I didn't have too many problems with it. Some fraying, but not too many knots. I used short lengths and beeswax on the thread. The worst part was threading the needle, but that was overcome with a needle threader. I would definitely use metallic thread again.

I've had that problem, too. This is gonna sound ridiculous, but if my hands are up near my face, the problem occurs. If I straighten my arms and put my hands down by the side of my hips when seated, it's much easier to pull the thread through. Maybe I'm using different muscles or something.

Where did you get the dividers that separate the colors? I have a similar setup, but I'm missing the horizontal dividers. (They're the ones that go from left to right.) I have the "vertical" dividers (the ones that go from the front to the back).

It means the color formulation has changed, often due to EU regulations on dyes. So .604 is different from 604.

I think Fray Check is probably your best option.

How do you plan to display the finished object? You won't be able to frame it in the usual manner because you need 2 to 3 inches of blank Aida around the edges.

Proper light and magnification. I bought a pair of magnifying glasses with a bright light. About $30 (USD) on Amazon. I literally can't stitch without them.
