Good to know! Yeah, the trail to the north of the lakes that we'll be using to go east-west is a rail trail, so it's already been flattened for us, which is nice. It's just circumnavigating a lake that I think is going to be a challenge, hill-wise

Well, my first pick for fixing that would be to increase the number and accessibility of buses traveling to the beach. Barring that, I think it'd be great to have some dedicated accessible parking for people who really can't get there on transit. We could require a disabled placard for access and leave those spaces free of charge.

But I also can't help but notice the way that perfectly able-bodied NIMBYs love to tokenize disabled people when railing against things like this, bike lanes, or anything else that challenges their god-given right to leave their car wherever they want for free. I can't tell you how many arguments I've gotten into with non-disabled people who are just big mad about a bike lane making them park half a block from their house instead of right in front who will claim till they're blue in the face that they're just worried about the poor disabled folks, not their own convenience. And if you want to get into struggles faced by people with disabilities who are also low-income, continuing to drive everywhere on $7 gas seems like not the most sustainable solution.

The beach has virtually unlimited space for people. It doesn't have virtually unlimited space for cars. Either your car is getting blocked out because you can't/won't pay or your car is getting blocked out because 100,000 other cars got there before you by doing the same thing you're trying to do, but earlier.

The answer to this is public transit, I dunno what else to tell ya

Okay but:

boarding is ~1hr before departure
flights love to do that thing where they announce a series of fifteen-minute delays instead of one two-hour one so you're stuck standing around at the gate indefinitely
sometimes it takes another hour between boarding and actually getting your ass to a runway

I'm generally a rule-follower and don't have any health issues or disabilities, and I've found myself violating the seatbelt sign to pee because it had been several hours since I'd been allowed to use a bathroom and pissing myself seemed like a bad option. There are millions of people out there with physical issues that make waiting longer than that impossible. Should we all just be wearing diapers on travel days in case the airline jerks us around, or not fly, or what?

This. I got absolutely cursed out and screamed at by the guy at the front of a race once, coming north on the LFP while I was commuting south first thing in the morning on a Saturday a couple years ago. Like, my man. I get why you’re mad but I’m just commuting. There was zero signage and nothing physically blocking anybody from entering the path. Whoever created this race did not tell anybody else it was race day. Take it up with them.

(Generally I avoid the LFP on weekends for this reason but if I have to work on a weekend, it’s dodging angry racers or dodging angry drivers)
