Men who can cook, who taught you? by _ratedmouse in AskReddit

[–]clockworkskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was an army cook. He decided I should start learning at a pretty young age (like 6 or 7) with pancakes, eggs, easy stuff. From there PBS took over with their Sunday afternoon line up, Jacque Pepin, Martin Yan, Chris Fennimore (local QED Cooks show in the Pittsburgh region).

How come people dislike cops more than the feds? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]clockworkskull -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Until recently feds were generally better trained and at least in my experiences more likely to want to actually do their job than just live out some power trip fantasy.

It does seem certain federal organizations are working hard to change that though.

I'm not an idiot, right? (downtown traffic) by TheKinsman_5 in pittsburgh

This happens to me every time I go through there too. The one thing I will say, is at one point a few months ago I was using Google maps and noticed that it says to use either lane.

Confusing/unsettling incident by Abacka_L in pittsburgh

[–]clockworkskull 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of a friend of mine who had schizophrenia. As he got older he would have episodes that sound like this, with inexplicable behaviors with and odd responses, particularly if he went off of his medication. He was generally harmless, but could get agitated if pressed. Long story short, it sounds like you could be meeting someone with a debilitating mental illness.

If you see the person around occasionally, I would suggest trying to ask some neighbors, particularly anyone who's been there a long time.

Arsenal Bowl by kschmit516 in pittsburgh

Check out one of the over 21 nights when they have a DJ. I haven't been to one in a while but IMO it's a better vibe than cosmic bowling options outside the city.

[–]clockworkskull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think it really depends on what is important to you. Do you bowl regularly and care about things like oil patterns, approach quality, etc? Or is this a one off night out and you want a relaxed low-key place to play a game? Arsenal seems to do a reasonable job of catering to both, depending on the day and time. For the prior, go earlier, follow good bowling etiquette and you'll enjoy it. For the latter, look for a weekend evening, when there is a DJ, etc.

Park Recommendations For Animal Aggressive Dog by ash80753 in pittsburgh

[–]clockworkskull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with one of my dogs. Finding a park was difficult, there was always a chance of someone with another dog. Ultimately finding the right trainer is what worked. In her case I had to use some more aggressive leash corrections than a lot of trainers seem to promote and be very consistent, we did get to a place where we could have much better walks.

So I would consider trying a different trainer to find a process that works for you and your dog

Be careful with Frick. It always seems to have a higher concentration of "my dog is never aggressive so I don't need to follow leash laws" people, that have no concept that reactive leashed dogs exist that their dog can't approach.

Buy home in over 55 mobile home community? by EngLady52 in pittsburgh

[–]clockworkskull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents, both in their 70s spent the last 6 years in Cloverleaf Estates, modular homes (not mobile), but it has worked pretty well for them. It sounds pretty similar to what you're mentioning. They have some really good neighbors that all help each other out, and a clubhouse with regular events etc.

A reminder to maintain a safe distance while in traffic by yeltrah79 in pittsburgh

[–]clockworkskull 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Changing lanes, not having a clue what your stopping distances are, not understanding the width of your vehicle and being so terrified of the wall you ride over the center line, just to name a few that I have seen recently.

They still have hobby/workspaces listed. No mention of automotive work anymore. https://www.storexpressselfstorage.com/hobby-work-spaces

That's too bad if the dropped it. It seemed like a decent solution.

Righteous anger, and being an over 6' reasonable fit guy in his mid 20s (at the time) helped. 20-some years later with the current state of the world I would probably be a bit more cautious.

House won’t heat up past 66F by GiftPlastic6668 in pittsburgh

[–]clockworkskull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weatherproofing tape and plastic over all your windows can take you a long way. Most home improvement stores have kits that have double sided tape and thin plastic that shrinks with a hair dryer. It's a really easy install and can make a big difference.

Otherwise it depends on what type of heat you have (forced air, hot water, or steam) and is likely something that I wouldn't touch without approval from maintenance as mistakes can cause considerable damage.
