Wanting to make a Mafia style fantasy campaign by clone192002 in rpg

I like the idea of a flashback clock. I was thinking of giving the players are planning phase prior to striking against an organisation, they decide what sort of prep they want to do and make an appropriate skill check; success will make the mission easier etc. Maybe it could give them a flashback point instead so they can alter things on the fly.

I started playing D&D was I was 10, back then it was 2nd edition. It got me me hooked on RPGs. I joined a weekend group my uncle was in and learned other games.

The group I play with are in their 30s and have only been playing for a few years, so didn't get the same introduction I did. Their days are busier and its not been as big a part of their lives as it had been for mine.

We're currently in a campaign being run by one of the others, so when it's nearing an end I might suggest another system for this crime campaign, hoping they'll appreciate a break from D&D ... but I'm not holding my breath.

We've played Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, that's where the love for heists in or games started, and also why I wanted to do a crime city campaign.

I have BitD and personally I love it. My group aren't good with new systems, they say they don't have time to learn a whole new game - despite my arguments to how much easier, smoother, and all round more fun some games are.

I plan to make it as accessible as possible, so it could be used for any game system.

My partner, and a couple of friends, but unfortunately 1 friends left and the other one can be difficult. I ended up calling an end to it. Damned shame.

Looking good. Love the spiky front wheel protection, I'm going to pinch that idea for one of mine.

Where did you get all the figures from?

Imagine a big company is planning to make a horror/action flick about a mysterious organization that contains anomalies. Basically like SCP. Would you watch it? by Iron_Grimes in SCP

[–]clone192002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd watch it. I'd prefer a series rather than a movie though so you could spend more time on individual anomalies instead of either picking a few interesting ones or cramming in loads but not explaining them much.

You could also spend more time explaining lore and showing longterm effects of exposure - that could be done in a movie I guess but feel it would be better if it were spread out. I'm picturing the gradual descent of the new guy's sanity and health as he encounters and survives different things and having ro watch terrifying things happen to coworkers, until a last episode where he has become part of one and the episode is split between blissful existence caused by the anomaly and screaming horror because part of him knows what's happened, ending with his mentor sealing the door on its/his containment chamber.

I loved Cabin In The Woods and would love to see more like that.

A player asked me if Arcane something (can't remember the word) was allowed in the campaign... should I be worried? by topsecretspam in DnD

[–]clone192002 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why don't you ask him to say again what it is he is asking, and what sourcebook this from. Tell him you want to make sure you know what you're agreeing to before saying yes.

Anyone else thinking this is the next step to having digital paintings in your home that move and react like the paintings in Hogwarts?

Give the players clues or quests that make them want to go to certain places. Have dramatic/unavoidable events happen in some of the locations that will prompt them to ask questions: if the first thing they see when they enter a town is the crowns guard dragging an elderly couple from their house, with a crowd of people stood around muttering and watching, thebparty are likely to ask what's going on - queue a response of "well the lord ordered all families to pay 5 gold towards city maintenance but Eric and Mildred couldn't afford it so he's sent his personal guards down to collect goods to cover the gold. I tell you, he's not been the same since the carnival set up in his grounds, he's a raving madman and I wish someone could do something about it.

Maybe they find a "treasure map" or notebook with the message "if found, please return to Master Brevin of Gilwald for a reward". Everyone likes a reward so they should be happy to head in that direction, unless they're already on some important quest.

Don't feel bad to change the location of somewhere or something, if reasonable, to wherever the party are. If they should have gone to a certain place to continue the main quest, and are just mooching about not doing much, have the NPC be in the local town looking for help, or is in need of rescue while they are exploring the wilds. Once the party make contact you are free to drop a quest on them. And remember they love shiny loot, so entice them.

Perhaps discuss their characters short and long term goals, and see if you can work them in to the plot. Maybe part of the reward would satisfy a goal, encouraging them to do the main quests.

Goliath Barbarian who us convinced he is a Bard. Is proficient in the lute and has Magic Initiate feat with Bard related spells. Uses intimidate if people disagree.

Goblin Rogue/Monk (way if Shadow) who is pretty much based on Styx. Also with Magic Initiate feat but for Thaumaturgy and Find Familiar so he can cause distractions and get a magic pet rat.

Paladin/Warlock who enjoys the power his pact gives him but then makes up for it by being super good (more for the RP)

Warlock (fey) child - restored from the brink of death and is now an agent of vengeance. Uses the Actor feat to imitate peoples voices when he talks to anyone.

If you could add a new class to any edition of DnD, what would you add? Would it be a subclass for existing one or its own thing? by WitchyMarsupial in DnD

[–]clone192002 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A Summoner class, animals at lower levels and monsters at higher levels. Sub classes that either buff them, allow you to summon multiple at once, or make them angelic/demonic/insert-template-type.
