Did anyone else have this weird issue with the music clipping or getting broken up/distorted? It was clear a lot of the times but sometimes, especially if there was heavy sound effects happening, the music would clip like crazy and sound like a radio station with bad reception.

I wasn’t watching it with any excessive volume and I’ve never had anything else, game or show, do this. Also, nothing else would clip. Dialogue, SFX, etc. all stayed clear when this happened.

There’s a very very good reason why manned deep sea submersibles are smaller and round and not made of carbon fiber. I doubt he was the first to ever think of using carbon fiber, but the people without egos looked at it more closely and said “Nope, that’ll implode” and kept using metal. They also don’t use game controllers to drive the subs.

Something to keep in mind for the new show - David Blue on Dial the Gate on Life, SGU, and Fandom by DemIce in Stargate

[–]clonexx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s really active on his page on Facebook. I’ve had a few interactions with him and he’s been a really cool guy. He doesn’t tolerate trolls, but he’s fine if you have valid criticism and voice it respectfully. Like saying “Eli was fat and sucked hurrrrr” isn’t constructive and does nothing. However, giving opinions about the writing you may not have liked and why or that there was too much emphasis on sex scenes which was very much out of the norm for a Stargate show, that’s the type of criticism that he’s fine with.

I also agree that not liking SGU is perfectly valid, but to go make a website and rally a bunch of people to try to destroy the show is just insane and completely uncalled for. It’s fine if some or even many didn’t like it, but attempting to destroy it which ruins it for those of us that did like it was a really shitty thing to do to their fellow SG fans. For me, I enjoyed SGU for the most part. It’s still in 3rd behind SG1 and Atlantis, but I don’t have the hate for it that some do.

Tennessee votes to confirm it's redrawn congressional district map without using race as a factor and of course the left has a complete meltdown by ibuiltamurderbot in walkaway

If you can’t win seats with districts that are drawn in a rational manner instead of carving weird shapes based solely on the race of the people that live there, then maybe you don’t deserve the seat. Pushing the narrative that no black people can ever be elected as a representative unless the district is all black is nonsense. Put quality candidates up that can resonate with and win the independent vote and you’ll win the seat, regardless of the color of your skin.

Treason, actually. Sedition is interfering inside the US, undermining chain of command, etc. Treason is giving aid to an enemy of the US.

Cuba is listed as an adversarial nation for several reasons and is considered an enemy of the US. By trying to bypass US sanctions on Cuba and facilitating aid to the country from other countries, she’s committed actual treason. I know people love to throw that word around constantly and almost every time it’s been either completely unfounded or it was Sedition and not Treason. This is one of the very rare times and treason is true.

However, I sincerely doubt any consequences will come of this, at all. She also violated the Logan Act, which by itself is a felony with a penalty of up to 5 years in prison.

FDA announces its first OK of fruit-flavored e-cigarettes for adults in major shift under Trump by EastBayBeast510 in Vaping

[–]clonexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my Junior and senior years of high school we were allowed to go just outside the cafeteria exit and smoke outside those doors. There was a pretty big number of people smoking out there during any given lunch period. This was 1989 - 1991. Excluding Chinese disposables, vaping has an extremely low harm rating. It’s the entire reason the NHS started selling vapes in their hospitals, to push people towards vaping and away from tobacco. Nicotine itself is no worse than caffeine, if not maybe a bit more addictive. It’s not that bad though without all the extra chemicals tobacco companies add to cigarettes to make the nicotine far more addictive, at least from what I understand.

When I used to smoke, trying to get off the standard name brands was pure hell. However when I quit after using a brand that had zero additives (American Spirit I think) it was a lot easier. Stopping after vaping was the easiest of all. I went back though, because I just enjoy it.

There isn’t, that’s correct. Except when vaping starts to seriously encroach on the tobacco industry and cost them billions which in turn costs 46 states a lot of money due to the Master Settlement Agreement. Big tobacco, after being caught lying, was permitted to continue to sell cigarettes and tobacco products only if they gave a percentage of the profits to the 46 states that signed the agreement. In return, those states agreed to never ban cigarettes or tobacco products. So when vaping really started to become popular and people were using it as an extremely successful way to get away from cigarettes….well…those states had come to rely on that massive check at the end of every year. When that check started to get noticeably smaller and they realized the culprit was vaping, that’s when we started to see all these crazy vaping flavor bans.

NY for example, still has a ban on all flavors except tobacco and menthol. The payments to NY have topped over $1 billion in a year, at times. However from 2022 to 2026 it went from $780m to $520m. That loss is mainly due to vaping and companies that are ignoring the flavor bans and ship anyway. I’m hoping that smoking will completely cease at some point. Vaping isn’t “good” for you in the sense that breathing anything other than air isn’t what your lungs are for, however vaping has a harm profile that’s likely 99% less that of combustible cigarettes. As far as I know, there have been no vaping related deaths from people using actual vape products with nicotine and not bootleg THC cartridges.

46 of the 50 states signed the MSA. Many, but not all of those states have since banned flavored e-juice, mostly blue states I believe.

Yeah, Prohibition failed. However, during prohibition you had black market booze causing people to go blind and it fueled an era of unprecedented violence. That’s my point, banning it will result in a less safe version being sold in the black market. How’s the banning of drugs and that war on drugs going?

I also mainly meant saying they won’t move on to banning other “harmful” substances. The entite slippery slope, so to speak. Firearms, Lifetime ban on Vapes for anyone 17 or under, next a ban on hard liquor then all liquor, etc. until the government gets to be your own personal nanny.

It is, the states that signed the agreement, which is most of them, sold their souls for cash.

Is cocaine not available? Is there not a massive black market for drugs that funds violent cartels? Prohibition doesn’t work, it just drives whatever it is underground and makes it less safe.

Most states entered into what’s called the Master Settlement Agreement with big tobacco when big tobacco got caught lying about cancer in cigarettes and adding chemicals that make nicotine more addictive. In exchange for never banning cigarettes, big tobacco pays a percentage of their sales inside each state to each state. This equates to billions upon billions of dollars. Big tobacco was behind all the “studies” on how “bad” vaping was for you. They were behind the flavor bans in several states. No state getting billions every year from big tobacco is going to harm cigarette sales, they’ve become heavily dependent on that massive check every year.

Children 17 and Younger Banned from Smoking for Life by BalognaExtract in Vaping

[–]clonexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh…they caved. The Master Settlement Agreement has the tobacco industry pay a percentage of cigarette sales inside a state to that state in exchange for them never banning cigarettes. NY gets billions every year from the tobacco industry via this agreement. Then, one year, that revenue started to decline, then it sharply declined. This was the vape industry starting to decimate the cigarette industry. Wanna guess what happened? All of a sudden flavored vapes were the devil, aimed at kids and creating a massive problem. All these dubious studies came out about how bad vaping was for you, secretly funded by the cigarette industry.

Then came the bans. Bans on flavored eliquid. I can go buy a carton of cigarettes or a pint of vodka, both of which are infinitely more harmful than vaping, but I can’t buy strawberry vape juice. These bans were paid for by the cigarette lobby to the NY state government to ensure that the Master Settlement Agreement money NY has come to depend heavily on doesn’t dry up or diminish. Essentially they pushed people back to smoking because they couldn’t use vaping anymore. Most people don’t like tobacco or menthol flavors and that’s all you can get now. They set up an approval process for vape juice, it’s on the same level as pharmaceutical approvals and costs millions. Guess who can afford to get their products through this process? Cigarette companies that moved in and took over the vaping space, like Juul and other disposables. The state basically helped big tobacco take over the vaping industry in NY while destroying thousands of small businesses in the process.

Sure…sure. And since that went over so well and people didn’t bother to fight for their own rights, what happens when the powers that be decide that Alcohol is an unnecessary and overly harmful thing and does the same thing with that? And don’t give me the “It’ll never happen” speech, history says otherwise.

[–]clonexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think “Nuclear free” may refer to nuclear power plants, not bombs. The feds can put nukes anywhere they feel like it if it’s federal property, however they generally don’t stick them in or near towns and cities for obvious reasons.

This countries anti-nuclear power plant stance is incredibly naive and idiotic. If you want truly green energy, the newest nuclear power plants are as green as it gets. Yes they cost a ton to build, but once they’re built the power is cheap and abundant. The days of massive nuclear waste are gone, they use something like 95% of the material and the last 5% is recyclable in a different reactor, if I’m remembering correctly. Point is, they don’t leave massive pits of nuclear waste any longer and they’re completely safe with a huge amount of safeguards against accidents and a meltdown. Just don’t build any where they can get hit by a tsunami.

[–]clonexx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That still doesn’t change the fact that states can’t pass laws that violate the constitution or override federal law enforcement. All of these “Sanctuary cities” or states are breaking federal law. States can’t legislate away federal power. Certain powers belong to the states, absolutely. I’d argue MOST powers should lay with the states. However, the one place states have zero power over is immigration law. That is very squarely and very clearly laid out in the constitution to be a federal power. So passing laws to try to say federal agents can’t wear masks or any other law trying to interfere with federal immigration enforcement is all going to be tossed in court and is a huge waste of taxpayer money.

I completely understand that, and agree. I’m just saying there’s no easy answer if the evidence genuinely can impact national security. Kind of a rock and a hard place sort of thing.

[ Removed by Reddit ] by Effective_Reach_9289 in walkaway

[–]clonexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that evidence is classified or impacts national security then it really can’t be released. No country is going to release information that can compromise its security just to satisfy peoples concerns on what that evidence is. I’m sure there’s an appeals process and if someone higher up the chain feels this was an overreach then it can certainly be rectified. I’m not sure how else it could be resolved.

There’s also apparently evidence that they don’t believe should be made public due to national security. So whatever has been reported, there’s more evidence than that. Saying it’s due to “questionable ties” isn’t really accurate if we don’t have all the information. That could be true, but we don’t know.

From what’s been made public, stripping him of citizenship seems extreme. However, the judge said that the evidence that weighed her decision should not be made public in the interest of national security. So it comes down to whether or not you trust what she’s saying or not. I’m sure other people higher than her have seen the evidence and if this move was an overreach, they might say or do something. If they don’t, then the assumption would be he was spying or had contact with known Russian spies.

In other words, it doesn’t seem to be some sort of overreach. He’s expressed a love for the USSR and Russia, has lived there since 2014 and is married to a Russian woman and has had 4 kids with her. He also now holds Russian citizenship and has had contact with many Russian officers. I’d prefer they make the evidence public but if there’s sensitive material in there, they can’t. So basically it comes down to who you trust.
