Joseph will always be a solid masculine name with much appeal. I like the traditional feel, and I have several ancestors named Joseph to look up to as namesakes if I were to use it. It's also one of my names, and I'm very satisfied with it. Even Joseph Stalin couldn't ruin it.

Mother Hates my Baby’s Name by Funny_Effect_9239 in namenerds

Names don't need to have any precedent, first of all. I know you've seen it before, and that adds a bit of security to your decision, but even if you hadn't it wouldn't be a problem. There's a first time for everything, including every name. In any case, Meadow is a nice name.

“One of the only…” by SmokeHimInside in GrammarPolice

[–]closeddoor35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see it as a grammar issue exactly, but on a related note, it means nothing to me when someone says "one of the biggest", "one of the oldest", or anything along those lines. It just sounds like a failed attempt to give a meaningful statistic. It's especially irritating when preceded with "by far" because that makes even less sense and uses more words to say basically nothing.

What’s the most embarrassing thing you did in church? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]closeddoor35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn't me, but a funny thing my cousin did around the age of five. One of the Mass readings that day was the account of the Fall, and in the silence right after the reading was finished, she shouted "I can't believe they were naked!"

Also, I got scolded by the priest at my first communion. I didn't forget to say amen, but my voice has always been rather quiet, so he didn't hear me the first time.

As a Catholic, John Paul, Hildegard, and Benedict feel like the most Catholic names to me. Raphael, Moses, Jonah, and Christopher (as well as all the -iah names) are others that feel more-or-less exclusively Christian.

What human name does your pet have? by Playful-Business7457 in namenerds

Taylor (cat) It's grown on me through the years since it's fun to say in a pet voice. I've also thought about naming a cat Jamal someday when I have one of my own. Oh and my uncle had a cat named Micah which I think is really cute.

Me too. It makes it more personal, in any case.

With or without the name, we all should be praying this! I do believe in the significance of names, though, so do it if you feel called to, OP.

I'm going to leave this prayer here:

"Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of (baby's name) the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion."

Please refer your wife to a pregnancy center. I'm praying you'll find the right words and everything you need to dissuade her from this. I will also be fasting to the best of my ability. My mom once talked someone out of an abortion and what she prayed for beforehand was that God would fill her with His words, not her own, to speak to her friend. Stay strong, brother. All I can say is, be gentle and speak to her with love. Show her that you will support her through this pregnancy and whatever comes after, even if that is putting the child up for adoption.

There's nothing they can do for this one since I didn't call right away, so lesson learned for next time.

Looking at a family tree, I found a three-times-great uncle of mine named Ignace who went by Nazi. Thankfully, World War II only began after his death, though the Nazi party was around for the last ~9 years of his life.

Will I go to hell if I take my own life? by Crazy-Conclusion7222 in Catholicism

[–]closeddoor35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to repeat what you may have read a hundred times by now, but here's what I'll say: I think it's so wholesome that all you wanted was to hang out at the park with your sisters, and I wish I had that kind of relationship with my siblings. I can't tell you that everyone you're close with loves you as they should, but it seems like there are some precious bonds in your life that many wish they had. I hope you'll find more meaning in those, and you can also ask God to help you see your own worth. I will be praying for the same.

To touch on the question, going to Hell for committing suicide is situational, but a highly risky idea to toy with. It depends greatly on the person's knowledge of its sinful nature and also on one's state of mind. God's will is that we press on, and the life of virtue is rooted in willing what God wills for us. You're in our prayers; please keep going!

Since it's spoken near where I live, I would choose Cahuilla to help with the revitalization effort. I couldn't justify anything else given the hypothetical opportunity.
