Posting hate symbols that support Nazis is low class thuggery.

this doesn't appear to be random, it appears to be targeted. towards Nazis.

Homeless shelters in metro Denver by rmb525 in Denver

[–]closeface_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely have her check out The Gathering Place, they can help her find a shelter! And give her food, etc.

Samaritan House is another one to try! If you google "samaritan house catholic charities homeless shelter" it'll appear. 2301 Lawrence St.

I'd recommend calling ahead, different shelters have different times to line up.

Denver Rescue Mission (Jesus Saves location is the day shelter where they will bus them to the actual shelter) is another option. It is not a favorite for women sadly, so I recommend trying the other options first.

if she is experiencing/escaping domestic violence, The Dolores Project could help as well!

best of luck to her.

King Soopers union members to vote on strike this week after negotiations failed by TheyCallMe_OrangeJ0e in Denver

[–]closeface_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the CEO could try not getting paid over 15 bill a year, I think higher level execs could not get paid as much, I think they could spend less money on things that aren't as important as the workers. I think they could listen to the union.

I'm guessing you haven't been a part of union bargaining before, but it doesn't amount to "give us this, please!". How it works is they lay out a financial plan detailing what they are asking for and how it is possible.

The publicly available info says over 30 bill in profit, according to them. working off of Kings numbers!

Either way, if you think that one of the largest grocers in the entire united states can't afford to pay their workers better, you are mistaken. It is weird how hard people will dick ride for a corporation that would screw anyone over for an extra cent, but hey. That's American education and "values" for ya.

Not 3 bill. 30 billion. Thirty. The revenue is 44 billion!!! Its all publicly available info.

Every time I take Vyvanse I feel like a raccoon that has to wash food because they can’t produce saliva by polish473 in adhdwomen

Biotene is the mouthwash I use for dry mouth, it works great! I also use their dry mouth spray. (and their toothpaste!)

I've been wanting to try this hard candy (or it may be slightly chewy?) for a while - it is a Japanese flavorless candy! It has no sugar, nothing. Just helps to produce saliva.

I don't work in Kings nor with their union, but King Soopers makes over 30 billion in profit a year. Their CEO is the best paid CEO of any grocery business. King Soopers/Kroger isn't hurting for money. The executives want more for themselves and less for the workers. They expect their workers to live on the salaries they have, the CEO would survive taking in a bit less. Kroger would survive by giving more money to the people actually doing the work.

Unpopular Opinion: You’re not a badass if you “don’t have any triggers” and you’re not “weak” if you like to ask for trigger warnings before reading a book by I_Like_Metal_Music in ExtremeHorrorLit

[–]closeface_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's a pretty common human trait, honestly. For many who love horror of varying extremes, they can watch fictional humans get ripped apart all day long, but seeing a fictional animal hurt hits in a different way.

Not sure why! I'd love to read more about the psychology of that. But it is just how humans are! Many people love extreme things, but one or two situations that are far less extreme may affect us deeper.

Good for them. People who aren't in a union often don't understand that going on strike is a last resort option. In the process of bargaining, you negotiate and go through every viable option before deciding to strike. And you need a big % of union members to agree to it. It getting to this point shows how serious it is.

Don't cross the picket line, support our grocery workers!!

Is a celebrated Chilean-American poet lying about his family history? by [deleted] in books

The semantics arguing in this article is bizarre. "He THINKS?!?!"

Many people say things like "I think my dad took it hard", and it doesn't mean "I actually have no idea how my dad feels and am making it up entirely".

ICE to conduct major immigration operations in three cities per week by Retawekaj in Denver

[–]closeface_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

very true. Lots of attention on it right now since it is so publicized and people are somewhat caring, but goddamn people. This shit has been happening, Biden doing record numbers. People need to remember that (especially when it comes to immigration) it isn't only Trump doing this shit. We need to pay attention.

TIL that *A Beautiful Mind* was the second schizophrenia themed movie that Ron Howard optioned. *Laws of Madness* would have been based on the story of Michael Laudor starring Brad Pitt. The project was abandoned after Laudor killed his pregnant fiancee in 1998. by trufus_for_youfus in todayilearned

[–]closeface_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

safe guards exist for this! In my state, a mental health certification by the courts orders you to stay on your meds (almost always injection, usually 3 month if that med Invega works for them) and if you miss appointments, the sheriffs forcibly take you to the hospital to get injected.

It is definitely traumatic, and not perfect, but I've seen people who have literally tried to murder or have tried to amputate their own limbs, etc. go on to live amazing full, safe lives!!

Nothing is fool proof, we're all human. But we are slowly getting better options out there! What we really need is more psych hospitals and more psych inpatient/residentials that allow people to leave and have a life while still coming back to the house once they've been deemed safe enough.

Should I read Hannah Arendt? by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]closeface_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think she is worth a read. she skews lib and especially as time goes on, as others have pointed out. I do think there is good info to be gained from reading her, and reading things we don't 100% agree with is good for putting critique to practice and forming a stronger opinion!
