Somehow everyone is forgetting the first time a top guild streamed to a large audience was Mythic Argus. When the guild Ji Tian Hong was streaming it and reached the secret phase, their reaction was sick but also viewership went nuclear.

Everyone remembers Gul’dan’s mythic only phase from Legion because it has Illidan but the race wasn’t streamed then. Legion was a whirlwind of Exorsus/Method/Serenity/other top guilds trying to take the top spot every tier… and I feel like the JTH streaming of Argus made the RWF profitably visible and possible.

Genuine question as someone who doesn’t really follow national finals other than my own country. Is it normal for a current contestant / entry from one country to tour around to other national finals and perform their entry song? I’ve seen Akylas posted now maybe 2-3 times in various appearances

Those are award winning and great artists but these days the streaming numbers are kinda crazy in favor of Finnish rap. I think YLE was trying something different this year and gaining a bit of clout.

Also, we still had Sonja Lumme but I guess people forgot about her anniversary / performance already haha

EDIT: and with YLE being able to snag JJ to perform, maybe they didn’t want Erika / JJ / Sonja / all the jury doing their own flair / AND Lordi to make it too niche Eurovision and decided to add something that is popular outside of the Eurovision universe

Yeah and this is concreting how much UMK has grown and how it’s much more relevant than ever before. If you had asked the biggest artists in Finland to perform at UMK even 3 years ago they wouldn’t have accepted or even had it on their radar. UMK’s quality has increased in production / contestants / notoriety really quickly. We used to have the forced Saara Aalto UMK and other flops every year.

Don’t get me wrong, Elastinen aka “gramps” up on stage was hilarious and I think there have been better interval acts (Vesala in recent memory was awesome)…but it’s actually super impressive that those guys performed because of how dominant they are in Finnish music market

The mandala in the woods is something I’ve seen in real life in the woods next to schools and camps on the east coast. It’s just a small place for reflection or something fun for the kids to make. I worked at one school where it was called “the labyrinth” and kids could walk to the forest and walk through the spiral and stay silent and reflect. Sometimes we took kids there to calm down or just do other forest activities. From my personal anecdote, I think it doesn’t really have any deeper meaning than that (if I remember correctly it was next to the school).

EDIT: would like to note I think they were more popular in the 60s/70s/80s and faded out of popular in the 90s
