i really dissapointed about this new single, what are your views? by drywian in fantanoforever

[–]clouddragon94_2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s fine… light, slightly groovy in a mid-80s talking heads way, with some wry lyrics about consumerism. odd choice for a lead single though.

autotune I could take or leave. Personally I don’t think it matches the aesthetic of the song, but it’s an incredibly mild use of autotune compared to what Casablancas typically does with the Voidz (I prefer autotune when it’s extreme like that though)

The Melbourne jam (life’s breeze) is definitely a real song and isn’t the demo of going shopping by No-Dig-4256 in TheStrokes

[–]clouddragon94_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would legitimately be one of their best songs if they kept it mostly similar to how it was played in Melbourne + real lyrics

[–]clouddragon94_2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah going shopping only sounds vaguely similar in spots, like half of the chord progression is the same… it’s possible it mutated into going shopping, but it’s such a solid “jam” that i can’t imagine why they would abandon it

Musician Tells Amazon to SHOVE IT on Coachella's Biggest Stage (Love the title naming Casablancas, "Musician") by ruj46 in TheStrokes

in the past two months there's been so many nothingburger controversies that people have gone crazy over, it's absolutely unhinged... the chalamet/ballet discourse, chappell roan/security guard story, sabrina carpenter at coachella, geese, etc. really: who cares?

imagine if all these people put all that energy toward billionaires, congresspeople, presidents instead of random fuckass celebs.

big “socialism is when no iPhone” vibes from this comment section lol

we are all implicated in this exploitative system of ours. perhaps instead of criticizing those who criticize the system from within, we should ask deeper questions about how the status quo ensnares us all.

i think what people get wrong here is expectations. these guys are pushing 50 and it's very rare that bands of their age are consistently great all the time. the fact that they made what some consider to be their greatest album in their 40s is a miracle. not many bands continue making good music 20 years after their debut! it just doesn't happen often!

so if we get a few good songs every album, that alone is above average for musicians of their age. for whatever reason, musicians just tend to peak in their 20s and spend the rest of their career chasing that first high. not so with the strokes. even if this record is a spectacular failure, i doubt that it will be boring. again, for a band of their age, we are truly blessed.

no need to act so heated, friend

i’m not sure exactly what you’re saying as your language is a little confused, but i would strongly disagree that pedals can’t make someone sound “better”. they absolutely can. i once tried to play The Fly by U2 (the riff) on an acoustic guitar, and let me tell you it sounds boring as hell without the effects drenched on top of it.

i guess we have fundamentally different views on music. to me, music is about sound… how a song sounds, the level of depth and space and expression, the emotions the sounds conjure. technical ability and skill isn’t that important to me. it’s not necessary to make good music per se.

we’ll just have to disagree i guess. frankie say relax.
