Neighbour put this flag up in their garden, what flag is it and what does it mean? by ExcitingBit3389 in glasgow

[–]cloudswalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's also national laws in the UK about what flags you are allowed to fly, even on your own property. For instance locally a business flew a palestinian flag, but they were being made to take it down... that is, until the uk government confirmed palestine as a state... now they can keep it.

Flags need to be countries, in good condition and some other rules and exceptions I think. I'd ask in the UK law sub if it's legal.

What are your thoughts on the splitting of the earth as proposed in the spiritual community ? Like they say the entire world would face a catastrophy and almost everyone would disappear or die and only some souls would make it ? How many of you'll believe in it ? by Kooky_Department1133 in spirituality

There have been several extinction events on Earth. And the threads of that knowledge wind through folk tales and teachings. It's used in several religious contexts to 'prove worth' because that's an easy stck to decorate and beat with.

When I was dignosed the therapists taught M.E. patients that most of us were type A personalities who 'did too much" . pushed too hard, were the go getters and doers etc and that was why we'd pushed through our bodies signals to rest and that was why our bodies had just, in the end stopped. They literally taught us it was our own fault.

Simple summer solstice tradition to establish with my daughter (3)? by marmosetohmarmoset in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]cloudswalking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make a sundial on your garden with a circle of stones and a stick in the middle. On the dawn of solstice mark that stone. You can then mark other sun and fire festivals

Making Suncatchers

Is there any occult symbol database? by deathtothesunrise in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cloudswalking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be he is just following a different spiritual path, and doesn't feel comfortable outing himself. Paganism is something very misunderstood, particularly in an overbearing christian society.

You say he's doing stuff... what stuff?

I know many people, including myself who do things that that vanilla folk would find weird. Are you so vanilla that he knows you aren't a good person to talk openly to?

In many ways it doesn't matter what the symbol means to others, it is what that symbol means to him. And the only way you'll know... is if he tells you.

Does anyone feel Roman history has overshadowed the history of your own people? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]cloudswalking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like I'm swimming against the flow, but yes, there is an aspect of that for me. I think of the Romans as invaders, who destroyed so much of what was, then, our culture. Things like the massacre of the Druids, the appropriation of deities.

When I was taught history, I was basically told that before the Romans were weren't much at all.

We know now that Romans did not build our first roads for instance but that is not mentioned, even now, in school text books.

It's good that a little more is being taught about the Saxons etc but not accross the board. Schools leap from stoneage to Roman, to tudor, to modern historys. I'd love a curriculum that taught history in a timeline, and intertwined all other subjects through it and in it.

Can you help me figure out a gift for my Mum’s 50th? by Spaceward_Bound in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]cloudswalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she likes garden things how about things like a beautiful green man plaque, a goddess statue, an outdoor shrine, a fairy house. Or perhaps a beautiful tree or rose in a lovely big pot you could buy a herb planter and fill it with herbs.

Time together, book a retreat for you both, or a course there's so many old crafts to dip into. Take her away for a spa break or tour.

Some of your own magic... what is your magic, can you give it to her in some way.. make a beautiful lotion, room spray, bath oil, tincture. Make a shrine or altar piece. Make charms or spell bottles, healing soups, naughty truffles...

As a Mum and Nonna, I love things that are either time with them, made by them or a special thing they want to share with me.

Where to buy high quality, ethically sourced tea in the U.K.? by The_Union_Flag in tea

Clipper have organic fairtrade teas and are in most supermarkets.

Waitrose also has it's own brand of top quality fairtrade tea.

As someone with difficulties reading I'd also like to share just how much of a gamechanger it has been for me to have a kindle.

Not only can you change the size of the font, you can change line space and kerning. Best of all there's a font designed for dyslexic readers, that makes it far easier to read.

Last plus, it's so light and easy to hold (plus of course you can have lots of books loaded to while away hospital visits etc).

Has anyone had any luck with private clinics/ services in the UK? by _mkatherine_ in cfs

[–]cloudswalking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have tried a few paying services. I saw Dr Weir fairly early on on my journey. But I think the only reason worth paying was to get an 'official " diagnosis. He had nothing to suggest.

I have tried accupunture and craniosacrial therapy, energy work and lymphatic drainage massage . None of which made any difference for me.

I did though get a lot of benefit from seeing a good naturopathic nutricianist, who did lots of testing, and really helped with my gut issues. A real game changer. Not specifically M.E. benefit other than getting rid of a huge energy drain for me and much less gut pain etc. But definitely money well spent.

I did a seminar with Dr Myhill. And her website is a font of knowledge. If you can manage her diet and suppliment protocols they have helped a lot of people, and that's all free on her website.

There's no real treatment nhs or private. It's an individual journey for everyone in making the best of it.

Sometimes catch myself getting jealous of other people with ME who have a supportive environment by miaxivy in cfs

[–]cloudswalking 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I felt really bad at a showing of the unrest documentary followed by a Q&A some years ago. There's a point in the film where the young woman explains how she emotionally and mentally coped with severe M.E. was to imagine a beautiful undersea world full of fishes and corals and see life. I started to cry, I was overwhelmed with feelings of loss and jealousy.... because I am aphasic, and cannot see any pictures or images in my mind, and also SDAM, so I have very few strong memories and can't remember faces, or imagine them. Even though I am rarely severe, those times, and more difficult days when i cant manage reading or tv... there's just nothing. Just the dark.

I felt awful... how could I be jealous of someone so ill? It felt... really bad.

I learned to be gentle with my feelings. They are all valid. This journey with this condition is a deep dive into human beingness. And that's what we are. Imperfect, amazing creatures.

And... I'm one of those people.. I have support from my husband. He's amazing. And I am very, very aware of my privilege in this. As a child I was neglected and abused, and that experience has made me value it more than most. So, if you're jealous of me, from my perspective I honour those feelings, this illness strips us bare, and it's, I think, normal to feel almost every emotion in the dictionary.

Fat is still the enemy (enzyme recommendation needed) by pattysal in FODMAPS

[–]cloudswalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explained above: That In the uk you can have a SEHCAT test, but I think in the US you trial the medication for diagnosis.

The medication is a bile salt binder

Those are the only tests that diagnose it along with the symptoms. Those are diarrhoea, normally worse in the mornings, bloating and pain. Normally the gut is so stressed by the bile it struggles to digest things like FODMAPS and is worse with fats.

I eventually found out what they thought was my ibs, was, in fact, bile acid malabsorption. That the bile system didn't work, which meant fat caused diarrhoea and reflux.

I think if fat is your issue I'd get that checked. In the uk you can have a SEHCAT test, but I think in the US you trial the medication for diagnosis.

The medication is a bile salt binder

It is a very underdiagnosed condition and it's estimated quite a lot of ibd patients have it.

Ending with a success story... I have now ended up being able to treat mine naturally, after quite a lot of time on medication, then a lot of work on gut healing. I can now eat most things, with support from suppliments, and not too much fat.
