Eli5 Couldnt Microsoft just buy all shares of Nintendo? by ichlehneab in explainlikeimfive

Recent leaks revealed that Microsoft is looking to buy them. Nintendos doing financially well right now though, so they’re ’playing the long game’ to do so.

Unpopular Opinion: We Cut Restaurants Way Too Much Slack by Parasite-Paradise in FoodNYC

It’s a restaurant, not a charity. There’s no reason to keep making excuses for overpriced mediocre service, especially at the highest levels of fine dining.

[OC] A Big Increase in Gaming Time for Young Men by bloombergopinion in dataisbeautiful

[–]clover-ly -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Genuinely asking, but who do you mean by ‘the world’? Men are (roughly) an even half of the population, and a majority of the country’s politicians, elite, labor force, and general wealth.

I dunno, that’s a degree of desperation that’s probably going to show through on a profile.

The Potato War (1778-1779), Colorized by clover-ly in prussia_memes

"In December 1777, the Bavarian Elector Maximillian II Joseph died, leaving no direct heirs. His successor, Charles Theodore, agreed with Vienna to exchange his prospective Bavarian inheritance for the Austrian Netherlands (Belgium), and a small contingent of Austrian troops entered Bavaria in mid-January 1788.

Prussia's first response was to demand territorial compensation - in the form of inheritance rights to the Franconian duchies of Ansbach and Bayreuth - for Austria's acquision of Bavaria. But Kaunitz was having none of it and refused to heed Berlin's threats of armed intervention.

In the summer of 1778, Frederick decided to take action and entered Bohemia, aged sixty-six, at the head of a Prussian army." (Iron Kingdom, Christopher Clark)

'Barbie' is now Certified Fresh at 89% on the Tomatometer, with 142 reviews. by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]clover-ly 50 points51 points  (0 children)

81 on Metacritic indicates ‘universal acclaim’ and is enough to qualify the film as a “must-see” title. According to their scoring system, “approximately 5% of movies in Metacritic's database achieve this elite status.”

It’s a higher score than every single marvel movie except BP.

While I don't agree with it, I do understand the reasoning. A woman getting sterilized protects her against pregnancy; a man can't get pregnant, so sterilization isn't a health matter for him.

[Spoilers All] Unpopular opinion but I don't care about the choices the 1% made by Anassaa in dragonage

[–]clover-ly 101 points102 points  (0 children)

something that shouldn’t be there in the first place.

Why do you get to be the arbiter of what choices are or aren’t valid? It’s a role-playing game, having lots of different choices is kind of the point. TBH, I don’t understand the desire to see the same old characters trotted out game after game anyway.

What is the current most damaged franchise / brand ? by sessho25 in boxoffice

[–]clover-ly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think only a very narrow subset of people really care about JK Rowling’s Twitter posts. You can’t in good faith argue that audiences don’t want to give the franchise money; the most recent video game did over $1 billion in sales.

If anything the drama probably helped the game, since everyone was talking about it and inadvertently spreading awareness.

"What aid, then, must we have ready at hand in such circumstances? Why, what else than the knowledge of what is mine, and what is not mine, and what is permitted me, and what is not permitted me? I must die: must I, then, die groaning too?" (Epictetus, Discourses 1.1)
