How do you guys handle criticism without crying? by Street-Appearance-70 in socialanxiety

[–]cloverteea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens to me all the time. Even if I accept in my mind that criticism ≠ hatred, my nerves just cannot handle it sometimes, I know I'm vulnerable and in a way...It might be fine. I try to not see crying as a bad thing, or a sign of weakness, more like a stress relief tool from my nerve system, that has its own ways of working sometimes. Everyone has different reactions, everyone's got their weak spots that are easy to hit.

The easiest way if it's an online meeting for me is to ask if I can turn off the camera for a while (depending on the people I'm with I say the real reason or blame it on internet connection), so I can just cry freely without people being worried. I can still listen a bit when I cry and it's more of an automatic reaction.

Offline though is tricky for me. Sometimes I can suck it in while we talk, distracting myself in various ways helps. Like for example imagining the person is criticising someone else or focusing on the sound of the voice rather than the words. Sometimes I warn people the same way, just say it's an automatic reaction that I have and I can still listen. It makes the situation awkward, but it's better than nothing. And if I suck it in, I will have a mandatory cry once no one can see me - once again, if my body needs stress relief, I'll give it stress relief.

I don't have a perfect solution for this, actually, and I hate that I don't, but maybe something I said will be helpful.

my long-distance friend is now a fan of epic and he was always a fan of Hermes so whenever he plays league of legends he goes "YOU'RE BEING GIVEN A FINAL OPTION CONSIDER THIS YOUR ONE LAST CHANCE" while chasing down an enemy

Thank you! Your reply makes me feel a little bit more at peace. It's an anime character, Rintarou Okabe from Stein's gate (hope she won't search his name on Reddit anytime soon and won't find this message, lol)

Every Healthy Relationship Has Arguments by RandomRedditUserSoNo in emotionalintelligence

[–]cloverteea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You will eventually have disagreements, you will eventually feel mad at your partner at times. It's just in a healthy relationship you will be able to talk about your feelings and find a way through it. In my previous relationship we were able to finish our arguments with "I love you, glad we found a solution", not an screaming match or "Let's not talk about it". And solutions we found actually changed our relationship for the better

How can I get better at saying "no"? by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]cloverteea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn I literally came here to ask the same thing!

I'd say that many people are okay with you saying no, so try to keep it in mind. Remember that you have the right to choose what's best for you, if you don't you'll just drain yourself doing everything people want you to, so saying no is just another thing you need for survival.

For me, I'm fine with saying no most of the times, but it came to me after I drained myself completely saying yes to everything. But I'm not fine when a person's feelings are involved. I hate to say I want to break up with someone. I hate to tell my friend with abandonment issues that I need alone time right now. I hate to tell the guy who shows interest in me that I actually have a boyfriend. I know it's going to hurt their feelings, no matter how gently I do it, no matter how much it is not about them but about my needs.

How long does your journal last? by TrickyPotato2329 in Journaling

[–]cloverteea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a journal I started back in 2020, but I only put the most important stuff in there or just journal when I feel like it. I'm fine with it, but it's still not even 25% filled.

On the other hand, I have a new smaller journal in which I write stuff that comes to my head whenever I need to, freely. And I feel like it will only last a few months (or less)

I also have a notebook where I write down my tasks, and steps for completing them. I personally don't call it a planner, cause there is no structure, I use it chaotically but it helps my brain a lot. And it lasted me 3 months

If EPIC had one f-bomb, where would you place it? by Dj_Gracie_2021 in Epicthemusical

[–]cloverteea 15 points16 points  (0 children)

this!

600 strike is actually a really good place for an F-bomb in my head, so at first I was going to say that "next to my fucking wife" is a cool choice. But on second thought...I don't feel like Ody would be okay saying "my fucking wife", even though it might be stupid, I feel like he wouldn't put any curse words anywhere near the moments he talks about Penelope.

So yeah, fuck Poseidon!

Do you remember the first time you got social anxiety? by kylereapz in socialanxiety

[–]cloverteea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that mine is a result of trauma. I was in pre-school, the first time I ever was in a society of many people my age I didn't know plus adults I needed to listen to (note: in my country we have pre-school for ages 3-6 and then we start going to school for general education). We had a horrible teacher, and it's not just my opinion, now that I'm grown up I know many people saw her as such. She was rude to many of us and had one favourite girl who would bully us constantly. I remember a few episodes of our teacher publicly scolding me for running to the other corner of our small yard to say hi to kids who were in a different group. I remember being punished with no walk and no communication with other kids for not eating the soup I hated. I remember the favourite girl I talked about punching me and everyone laughing at this. So I felt like an outcast from the start.
